ANNUAL REPORT 2019-20
A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
Dr. Misty Overman Dear FWC Community, For over sixty years, Fort Worth Christian School has been a light in our community for the glory of God. We continually ask for His wisdom, guidance, and blessing as we continue His work each year with our students, parents, faculty and staff. Last year was one for the books. Even as we look back, we are amazed at the hand of God in all that was accomplished in spite of a worldwide pandemic. Our community rose to the challenge. Across the board, our students, our faculty, our staff, and our community stood in support of all that is FWC. In this Annual Report, we give thanks to those who have supported us in this journey, and highlight some of the ways your philanthropic support helps to ensure Fort Worth Christian School continues to fulfill its Mission. As we continue to seek the goals in our strategic plan “Vision Forward”, your continued generous financial support in not only tuition funds but also charitable giving funds, allows us to meet these goals for the benefit of our students. I am thankful for your commitment year after year for our school. With your support, FWC is continuing to strengthen our programs and therefore our future with God’s blessing. As you review this year’s Annual Report, my hope is this report and our transparency affirm your choice to be a part of FWC. I am grateful for you.
Dr. Misty Overman Head of School

COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER
Dr. Charles Fulbright, Jr. “Class of 2020, you are an extraordinary group—you were born in the aftermath of 9/11, you’re graduating in the midst of COVID-19, and we now find ourselves facing civil and social unrest. If there’s anyone who has been prepared to face the future, FWC Class of 2020, you are. You have been educated well, but more importantly, you have been spiritually nurtured for such a time as this.”
SALUTATORIAN REMARKS
Shayna Khanmohammed “Fort Worth Christian facilitated our growth, encouraged us to have a positive impact on others’ lives, and provided us with the greatest friends.”
VALEDICTORIAN REMARKS
Kyle Webb
“I feel confident that Fort Worth Christian and its faculty and staff have trained us to take on the hardest challenges, overcome obstacles, and make our lives what we want them to be….The events in life do not dictate your success, rather your response to those events dictates your success.” F O R T WO R T H C H R I S T I A N S C H O O L : Annual Report

ENDOWMENT
THE CARDINAL EDUCATION FOUNDATION:
FWC’s Endowment Making a Difference for Today & Tomorrow TOTAL ENDOWMENT AS OF AUGUST 31, 2020: $916,000 The Cardinal Education Foundation is Fort Worth Christian School’s endowment impacting students now and for generations to come. The endowment secures the long-term financial sustainability of the school, enabling mission-driven decisions to be made with visionary planning for academic excellence. The endowment currently provides need-based scholarships. The school is seeking to grow need-based scholarship support as well as develop support for merit-based scholarships. In addition, our goal is to receive endowed gifts for the school’s faculty fund to attract and retain outstanding teachers. The corpus of endowed gifts is invested with an independent investment firm with the oversight of the school administration and foundation board. The foundation distributes a percentage of the endowment earnings to the school to be used for the designated purpose of the endowed gift.
WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF ENDOWED GIFTS TO FORT WORTH CHRISTIAN? 1. Provide an opportunity for students to: • Experience Fort Worth Christian for possibly 14 years from Pre-kindergarten – 12th grade, • Be known, loved, and valued, taught excellence in and out of the classroom, and empowered by a biblical worldview, • Be equipped with a foundation for a lifetime of faith, service, and leadership for Christ.
2. Provide sustainable support to attract and retain outstanding teachers at FWC. We welcome opportunities to partner with donors who want to invest in growing our endowment to impact the school for years to come and provide financial stability during fluctuations in enrollment and market demand. Named endowments can be established with a minimum threshold gift of $50,000 payable over three to five years while gifts of lesser amounts can be made to the school’s general endowment.

NAMED ENDOWMENT FUNDS Pauline and Ed Snelson Endowed Fund Fort Worth Christian School is grateful to Jim and Nancy Snelson for establishing the Pauline and Ed Snelson Endowed Fund that honors Jim’s parents who were both instrumental in the early years of Fort Worth Christian. Ed Snelson served as one of the school’s first trustees and Pauline Snelson helped begin a group known as the Associated Women for Christian Education. This endowment honors them and supports need-based tuition assistance to qualified students and also supports salary needs to attract and retain outstanding faculty and staff. Mr. Snelson reflected on the endowment and said, “In these turbulent and ever changing times in which we live, investing in Chrsitian education is paramount. Our children and grandchildren need the faith-based education that Fort Worth Christian provides. FWC had a profound impact on me and Nancy as well as my parents and family. I hope others will join us in investing in Fort Worth Christian by supporting the Cardinal Education endowment and help secure the long-term sustainability of this wonderful Christian school.”
Mulholland Family Endowed Scholarship Fort Worth Christian School is grateful to Ray and Jenifer Mulholland for establishing the Mulholland Family Endowed Scholarship in 2018. This Cardinal Education Foundation endowment provides need-based scholarship support. The annual scholarship recipient is a student in 7th-12th grade with demonstrated financial need who meets the academic and conduct requirements for FWC enrollment and is enrolled in Physical Education or a Physical Education alternative. The Mulhollands encourage others to join them in investing in Fort Worth Christian and securing the school’s long-term sustainability through an endowed gift.
For information about the Cardinal Education Foundation or making an endowed gift, please contact Assistant Head of School for Advancement Kinch Cato at kcato@fwc.org or 817-520-6534.

CHARITABLE LEAD TRUSTS Charitable lead trusts are used to transfer assets to loved ones and reduce gift and estate taxes by a significant amount or eliminate them entirely. These trusts also allow you to provide immediate support to FWC each year for a specific time period—either a person’s life or a term of years.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS A charitable remainder trust provides for annual income to you or another person you designate for life or a specified period of time, after which the remainder of the trust is left to FWC. The donor may receive significant tax benefits, especially when donating appreciated assets.
IRA, 401(K) AND OTHER RETIREMENT ACCOUNTS Naming FWC as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k) or other qualified retirement accounts may provide tax benefits for your estate. If you are age 70 1/2 or older, you may also qualify to donate some or all of the annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your retirement accounts to a charity such as Fort Worth Christian.
GIFTS OF A SPECIFIC PROPERTY You can help support FWC by gifting real estate, stocks, and other securities that may provide significant tax benefits. Donating appreciated securities can reduce or eliminate the capital gains tax as well as other tax benefits.
