“I want my final season to be a celebration of the music we make together.”
M I G U E L H A R T H - B E D OYA
F
or me our 2019-20 season will be particularly momentous, as I will celebrate my 20th and final year as Music Director of the FWSO. The past two decades have been a gift: they have given me both the opportunity to work closely with the extraordinary group of musicians who make up the FWSO, and also to watch over the orchestra’s steady growth from a fine ensemble into an orchestra of remarkable breadth and sensitivity. I want my final season to be a celebration of the music we make together! Among the great programs this season, we will have some firsts, including the U.S. American premiere of Clockworking for orchestra by young Icelandic composer María Sigfúsdóttir in a program of Nordic music, as well as two world premieres, by composers Till MacIvor Meyn and Victor Agudelo. We will highlight some of the many important artists that have been important to the Symphony and to me, including Midori and Augustin Hadelich. We will be welcoming the Van Cliburn International Competition’s 2017 Gold Medal-winner, Yekwon Sunwoo, who will perform Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto. And we will celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday with a performance of his glorious, anthemic Symphony No. 9. All of these final projects are quite important to me. Of course, they are made all the more meaningful with your presence. Come join us and be a part of it! Let’s celebrate!

A Latin Spectacular FESTIVAL Over the past two decades, Miguel HarthBedoya has brought the breadth and depth of Latin American music to the FWSO, Bass Hall, and beyond. We honor this contribution with a joyful celebration of the richness of Latin American music.
In the year 2000, the same year he began his 20-year tenure with the FWSO, Miguel won an Emmy Award for a televised Latin Spectacular program he conceived and presented. Now, in Miguel’s final festival weekend with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, we come full circle with an exploration of symphonic and jazz music from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and Puerto Rico. Enjoy performances by Paquito D’Rivera (clarinet), Jesús Castro-Balbi (cello), and Michael Ward-Bergman (hyper-accordion), as well as works by important composers such as Osvaldo Golijov and Silvestre Revueltas.
