ITT Engineered Valves Delivering high quality, innovative flow control solutions for Abrasive Wear Resistance, Corrosion Resistance, and Critical/Hazardous Containment in a wide range of industries worldwide.

Dia-Flo Key Application: Demineralization A Glance at Demineralization The functionality of the demineralizer — the ability to make water ultra pure — is designed not only for water to be consumed by people and animals but also for water to be used in industrial machines. These sorts of machines require water that is very much pure water and very little else, and the demineralizer provides this. The more minerals that are in water that travels through pipes and equipment, the more those minerals tend to attach themselves to the pipes and equipment resulting in corrosion. A demineralizer helps avoid this sort of pipe problem by removing impurities such as magnesium and calcium that would foul process equipment such as heat exchangers, turbines, and piping. Systems may vary in design, but they all follow the same basic process steps: Demineralization, Backwash, Regeneration, and Rinse. Dia-Flo diaphragm valves have been proven the most reliable design for demineralizers for more than fifty years. The demineralizer process purifies water by the Ion Exchange method, reducing the amount of ions in the salt solution.

Ions naturally occur in water in the form of dissolved mineral salts. Condensate polishing is an ion exchange method used to remove trace contaminants, both dissolved and suspended from high purity water. Why Dia-Flo for Demineralizing Systems? • Reliable long term life • No packing glands to maintain • Easy in-line maintenance and low cost of ownership • 50+ years of proven service for demineralizers • Modulating and control capabilities The plastic lined weir body diaphragm valve is the valve of choice because of its clean and versatile design, and ease of operation. Tefzel® lining is typically used in the regeneration of cation resins, which involves the handling of hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid. Polypropylene lining is used in caustic solution and in the balance of the piping system. Diaphragm valves are automated with either double-acting or spring-opposed pneumatic diaphragm type actuators. The actuators are generally specified with adjustable opening stop (rate-set) and open/closed limit switches for remote position indications. Two types of external corrosion protection are available: White epoxy and PVDF coating. These coatings are applied to exterior and interior surfaces of the valve before assembly. Tefzel® is a registered trademark of Dupont.

NOW AVAILABLE – New Connection for Skotch® Trifecta T500 Oil Valves ITT is pleased to announce T500 Skotch oil valves are now available with ½” socket welded union end connections. We have received numerous customer requests for socket welded union end connections, and have added this end connection to the Skotch product offering. New Energy Savings Calculator Parker Transair has developed an energy calculator that enables system designers to determine savings made by using Transair in comparison to steel systems. Contractor/end users can immediately calculate the potential saving. On the basis of compressor related data such as pressure, flow rate, annual hours of operation, the type of dryer and data from the characteristics of the network and the local cost of electricity, the Transair energy efficiency calculator defines the savings and the duration of return on investment. The results speak for themselves and show that Transair is the best performing system and the best long term choice, no matter whether the project is for an extension, the modification of an existing pipe system or a new installation. To calculate energy savings using the Transair Energy Calculator, you will need: data about the compressor room, data about the compressed air network, and economic data (quotation for the network, electricity cost). With this energy calculator, you will be able to compare Transair to traditional compressed air pipe systems: . For a new quotation: the quotation for Transair compared to the quotation for a new network in steel. . For an existing installation: the quotation for Transair compared to the annual cost for an old network in steel. The results will show estimations of: . Total annual cost for a traditional network and for Transair . Total of money saved for 1 to 10 years using Transair . The payback period of the initial investment in Transair products

The V36 Dry Sprinkler is used in special applications such as freezing environments and conditions where sediment or foreign materials might accumulate in ordinary drop nipples. The Model V3606 and V3605 Intermediate Level Pendent sprinklers incorporate a water shield plate to prevent water from higher level sprinklers from interfering with normal operation. These intermediate level sprinklers are designed for use in intermediate levels of rack storage or other open grate storage arrangements, where they may be exposed to upper level or ceiling level sprinklers. Available in either standard or quick response versions, the Model V36 Dry Type Pendent Sprinkler utilizes a frangible glass bulb. At the bulb’s rated temperature, the sprinkler opens releasing the bulb seat assembly, causing the inner tube assembly to move, allowing the spring assembly to pivot alongside the inner tube. At this time, water flows through the sprinkler and is distributed by the deflector, in an approved discharge pattern. The heart of the Model V36 sprinkler’s proven actuating assembly is a hermetically sealed frangible glass bulb that contains a precisely measured amount of fluid. When heat is absorbed, the liquid within the bulb expands increasing the internal pressure. At the prescribed temperature the internal pressure within the bulb exceeds the strength of the glass causing the glass to shatter. This results in water discharge which is distributed in an approved pattern.

 fire-x-trol wet pipe sprinkler system expansion chamber

Protect your System with the FIRE-X-TROL®. . . UL®* Listed and ASME Compliant The Fire-X-Trol® expansion chamber with pre-charged nitrogen or dry air pneumatic cushion reliably protects your system from pressure increases that result from fluid temperature change. Since these systems are closed-loop systems, the expanded fluid needs to be accommodated with a pre-pressurized expansion tank. As the temperature rises, the Fire-X-Trol® provides the additional space in the system to accommodate the expanded volume of solution. The pneumatic cushion is compressed as the system pressure increases creating the space for the increased volume of fluid. The nitrogen volume in the chamber will be great enough to keep the system pressure below the pressure limitations of the system components. Properly sized, the expansion chamber will maintain maximum system pressures within the working pressure limitations of the system equipment.Your system is safely protected!

Webb Pump Service Capabilities

Jim Bodle General Manager

New Employee

This field capability is not only important for repairs; even when purchasing new pumps, in some cases our truck fleet can eliminate the cost of hiring an outside crane service to set new pumps.

Webb Pump is pleased to announce the addition of David Buckless to the outside sales team.

David joins us with an extensive background in the pump industry spanning more than 30 years. He has strong experience with pump applications in the industrial, commercial, municipal, pharmaceutical, and food & beverage markets, and has extensive knowledge of the key lines that we represent. Dave’s well known as a “go-to” guy in our business and we’re pleased to have him on our team.

Webb Pump is Your Choice for Field Service! The cornerstone of our field service capabilities is our five man service department with more than 35 man-years of experience between them. Our team is supported by two fully-equipped boom trucks, one of which can lift 3 tons with a 26’ boom and the other 2 tons with a 14’ boom. With on board air compressors, welding, acetylene torches, Optalign laser alignment equipment, and a complement of tooling, our trucks are designed to allow our technicians to remove pumps from remote and challenging installations as well as to perform minor repairs right in the field.

Remember one thing: When dealing with Webb Pump, you have the F.W. Webb Company behind everything that we do. We warrant most repairs for a period of one year and will work to insure that you are happy with the results every time.

David lives in Glocester, RI with his wife Darlene and children, Michael and Nicole. Interests include playing hockey, boating, and spending time with his family. Please join us in welcoming Dave to Webb Pump; he can be reached in our Cranston office at 401-463-8300, via email at dave.buckless@fwwebb.com, or on his mobile at 401-427-5142. In-Shop Repair At the core of any Pump Repair shop is the reconditioning of the pump. While many Motor Shops attempt Pump Repair, there is a difference when dealing with a well-qualified shop that truly understands the pump itself.

Laser Alignment Laser alignment is a critical step to extending pump life. Misaligned pumps are a major cause of failure as it can cause vibration, which ultimately results in reduced bearing life, poor seal performance, and noise. Webb Pump offers a laser alignment service not only for new pump installations but also for existing pumps in the field. The hear t of our service is our Optalign Pruftechnik laser tool. This top-of-the-line piece of hardware is designed for use on a wide range of rotating equipment and with it our team can produce extremely accurate alignments even when pump access is difficult. The system can produce a printed report of your particular alignment which is important for maintenance documentation.

Our Service Department consists of a staff of four well-trained personnel that live and breathe pumps ever day. We are equipped to handle almost any type of pump repair and are limited only by physical size of the equipment; we routinely work with pumps below 300HP in our Cranston facility. In fact, when a larger repair may be required, as an authorized Fairbanks Morse distributor we have access to their repair facility that works with pumps that barely fit on a tractor trailer flatbed. Whether it be a submersible sewage pump, a line-shaft vertical turbine, or a bench sized vacuum pump, we do it all. Our repair philosophy is simple: We strive to return the pump to“as close to new” as economically feasible. Along with our team of technicians, we’ve made major investments in-house sandblasting, glass-beading, welding, machining capabilities, plasma-cutting, bearing heaters, spray paint booth, and several jib cranes. Our equipment is first-rate and ready to work.  Before repair

Maine Based Energy Supplier Saves Big with an Energy Audit Problem 

Solution 

Excessive make up water, high steam and fuel demands, and potential hazards in the condensate pump room due to excessive flash steam in the condensate tank. Identify potential energy savings throughout the facility. Perform a steam trap and system survey to identify potential sources of problem.

In an initiative put forth by William Littlefield of Sprague Energy, Searsport ME to look for opportunities to reduce operating expenses, Webb Kentrol/Sevco was contracted to perform a steam trap and system survey at their facility. During a two day period Webb Kentrol/Sevco technicians, located, identified, tagged, tested and recorded the steam trap population’s performance. As a result of that survey, Webb Kentrol/Sevco identified 16 failed open steam traps in the system. Webb Kentrol/Sevco determined that the plant was losing approximately 5,258,000 pounds of steam annually. This equated to a direct energy savings of $ 68,362.00. They also estimated that they saved over 119,000 gallons of fuel oil. But that is not the end of the savings. Sprague Energy took Webb Kentrol/Sevco’s suggestions and replaced the 16 faulty steam traps. In follow up conversations with William Littlefield, they noted that the excessive make up water issue had been resolved and the flash steam issue has decreased. They have seen an increase in condensate return of 20%. They further estimated that the savings of water in a 1 year period would exceed 200,000 gallons of water from previous figures. Along with the savings in the water itself, they are realizing increased profits as a result of their savings in chemicals for the boiler water treatment. Looking to realize savings like these, contact Webb Kentrol / SEVCO and mention our 4 Phase Steam Program.

Shutte & Koerting would like to announce the addition of Webb Kentrol/Sevco as the new representative covering New England exclusively.

Spirax/sarco sTAINLESS STEEL At Webb Bio-Pharm, Customer  SAFETY VALVE Safety Comes First! Does your company have a standard operating procedure for opening a pressurized sanitary process Tri-Clamp connection?

In today’s fast paced manufacturing environment it is imperative to put safety first. This article focuses on the multitude of capped off Tri-Clamp connections throughout the manufacturing facility. Transfer panels, pipe run terminations, use points, instrument tees, and vessel ports are often capped with a blank ferrule and a sanitary Tri-Clamp. Often times these lines are charged with caustic chemicals and process fluids. Some applications are seeing “Clean in Place” and “Steam in Place” protocols that can leave lines charged and under pressure. Manufacturing Engineers, Process Technicians and Facilities personnel are potentially at risk from the process of opening a capped line and exposing themselves to a chemical or the sudden release of pressure. With over 12,000 installed, Fluidline’s Sample and Angle Bleed Valves have proven to be the answer for several large Bio Tech and Pharmaceutical companies. Some companies refer to them as “Safety Caps” and have written them into their standard operating procedures to be installed on all dead end process connections. The S.O.P. of opening the bleed valve before releasing the Tri-Clamp allows the technician to double check for pressure or process chemicals in a controlled and safe manner. The sanitary design offers minimal dead leg, controlled sulfur stainless steel, autoclavable handles, PTFE-TFM seats, and is available to accommodate Tri-Clamp connections up to 4 inch. Other available options include, hose barb and Tri Clamp outlet connections, eccentric or concentric orientation, inline or 90 degree designs. Please contact us today for more information.

 ecopower® flush valves AUTOMATIC FLUSHING SYSTEM TOTO, the world leader in advanced plumbing systems, provides sensor operated flush valves for facilities demanding the finest sanitation equipment for busy restrooms. “Hands-free” technology effectively reduces unsanitary conditions from unflushed fixtures. SELF-GENERATING POWER SYSTEM TOTO’s new technology of automatic generator flush valves offers easy installation without the cost and downtime required to install power supplies and wiring for each valve.A hydro-powered turbine charges the power supply during usage, eliminating the need for a battery replacement or consumption of external power for up to 10 years. SUPERIOR PISTON VALVE TOTO’s piston valve technology is a marked improvement over traditional rubber diaphragm type valves. Longer piston travel and a self-cleaning stainless steel screen to capture debris reduces common problems such as continuous running and flooding. The piston seat itself will not warp or mis-seal, reducing repair and maintenance costs. A micro-porous cup seal keeps the piston self-lubricated upon each activation with the incoming water supply. For optimal performance, we recommend using our 1.28 HET flushometers in conjunction with TOTO high efficiency toilets.

FEATURES: • Revolutionary EcoPower hydropower self-generating system • Automatic sensor activated • Superior Piston Valve • Positive Seal: No warpage or mis-seals • Self Cleaning Debris Screen • No valve resetting after water pressure loss • No Scheduled Maintenance: Reduce call backs, no regular diaphragm replacement
