It’s Give It A Go week! The new year is the perfect time to try something new. Need some motivation? We’ve got a week-long programme packed full of activities for you to try, most of which are free! Want to join the gym? Volunteer in the local community? Try a new sports club or society? Go green? This year, for the first time, wider university departments are putting on bespoke activities, including Support Services and Employability. You can also take part in Falmouth University’s Workshops Festival or Exeter’s Grand Challenges.

SATURDAY 20 RES: Portable Battery Workshop - £3 10am-3pm RE Lab, Penryn Campus Come and join us to learn practical skills and create your own portable charger for your small devices, such as phones or tablets. Lunch will be provided and all materials are available in the lab.

MONDAY 22 Eco Soc: Camera Trap Workshop - Free 1-2.30pm Penryn Campus – meet at the Exchange revolving doors Learn all about camera trapping. Help us collect cameras and see what creatures we have caught sight of on campus. Flicka: Afternoon Volunteer Session - £2 petrol contribution 2.30-4.30pm The Flicka Foundation, Penty Noweth Farm, Penryn Afternoon sessions tend to involve more grooming and donkey interaction, although there may still be yard work to do. Collection from campus. Netball: Social Netball - Free 5.30-6.30pm Penryn Campus Sports Centre A friendly netball session, this session is more of a relaxed environment. Less focus on the drills, more on the games and having fun with friends! All abilities welcome. 4


Falmouth Anchor: Taster Session - Free 6-7pm DDM Seminar L, Penryn Campus Come and join the Falmouth Anchor at their weekly meeting to hear more about how you can get involved in FXU’s only student newspaper. Underwater Hockey: Taster Session - Free if it’s your first session 6.15pm at the Penryn Campus bus stop or 7pm at Truro School Pool Truro School Pool With all kit provided (except a swimming costume), come along and try on a snorkel and fins and learn the basics of this fun and interesting sport. Kung-Fu: Post-Christmas Training - £1 8-10pm Sports Hall, Penryn Campus Sports Centre Burn off some of that Christmas roast with Kung Fu! The session usually kicks off with some cardio activities, before moving on to pad drills and other activities. Athletics: Circuit Training - Free 8-9pm Penryn Campus Sports Centre A session of drills for athletes of all abilities, focusing on core and mobility. Tang Soo Do: Training - £3 8.15-9.45pm Studio, Penryn Campus Sports Centre Tang Soo Do is a really versatile Korean martial art and is perfect for those looking for self-defence, fitness or something more challenging.

TUESDAY 23 Eco Soc: Mammal Trapping - Free 7.30-9am Penryn Campus – Meet at the Exchange Revolving Doors Come along and help us collect data on the mammals on campus. Learn about how to prepare traps and hopefully get to see some small mammals. Drop in for a chat, ask questions and hear stories about what the job is really like on a day-to-day basis. Falmouth University: Where does your feedback go? - Free 12-1pm Seminar C, Falmouth Campus (Falmouth students only) This workshop will take you on a journey on where exactly your feedback goes and will explore how we, as a students’ union, working in partnership with your university, should best communicate with you and close this feedback loop.

Lacrosse: Taster Sessions - Free 6-9pm MUGA, Penryn Campus We’re holding a women’s taster session from 6-7.30pm and men’s taster from 7.30-9pm. We provide all the equipment so just turn up. Ultimate Frisbee: Training Session - Free 7-9pm (We will be at Glasney Lodge at 6.45pm to walk people over who don’t know the way) Penryn College TISA We encourage all genders and abilities to come along. Just bring sports kit, lots of water and a good attitude. Volleyball: FXU Volleyball Tournament - Free 7-9pm Sports Hall, Penryn Campus Sports Centre FXU Volleyball are running a friendly tournament with teams of six to allow new and old members to enjoy playing competitively, with a prize for the winning team. First Aid: Ambulance Tour - Free 7-9pm DDM Seminar H and I, Penryn Campus St John’s Ambulance will be bringing one of their ambulances down from the Truro unit and leading a session on what’s in an ambulance and what the kit is used for. The Chorus: Rehearse with The Chorus - Free 7.30-9.30pm The Chapel Lecture Theatre, Penryn Campus Come along and try out your Acapella skills in a fun-filled environment with a great diverse bunch of people.

Stitching: Stitchathon - Free 9am-6pm The Compass Social Street, Penryn Campus An event in which we encourage people to sit down for a few minutes and learn to knit, crochet or embroider a small square. We aim to teach people a relaxing hobby as a form of productive meditation and create a large tapestry to display on campus.

DIY Solar Panel Workshop - Free (£5 refundable deposit to sign up) 1.30pm-5pm RE Lab, Penryn Campus You will learn about and build a water purification and heating system using readily available materials and the power of the sun. Bring a wetsuit, some shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and won’t fall off, and a towel! Tennis: Taster Session - £1 2-4pm Falmouth Sports Club, Western Terrace A chance to play tennis in a social environment - rackets will be provided if you don’t own one. Shinty MUGA Session GIAG Week - Free 2-4pm MUGA, Penryn Campus Typical training session orientated towards teaching new players. FX Run: Taster 5k - Free 2.30-3.30pm The Lodge, Penryn Campus A great chance to come and give the running club FX Run a try. Great for keeping fit and socialising with fellow runners.

Everyone will be given campaign cards and asked to go around campus collecting signatures. RES: Fracking Debate - Free 5-7pm DDM Lecture B, Penryn Campus Come and watch a panel of academics discuss the controversial question ‘Is fracking the solution to providing the UK with energy security?’. Wild Doc Soc: Miranda Krestovnikoff Guest Speaker - £5 WDS member, £8 non-member 5.30-7pm Chapel Lecture Theatre, Penryn Campus Miranda Krestovnikoff will be talking about her experience working on shows such as Coast, The One Show and Countryfile, as well as the work she does for marine conservation. 13

Eco Soc: Seawatch at Pendennis Point - Cost TBC* 10.30am-1pm Pendennis Point at 10.50 or Falmouth Docks train station at 10.30 Come along and look for seabirds and cetaceans at Pendennis point. VGSoc: Online PC Games Meet - Free 6-8.30pm VGSoc Discord Join us on Discord to play games like Overwatch, TF2, GMod and more. Fetish Society: Virtual Reality/Gaming Mixer - Free 6.30-9.30pm DDM Seminar L, Penryn Campus Kick back and enjoy some board games or delve into the amazing world of the HTC Vive, all whilst enjoying a few nibbles with one of the most openminded societies on campus. PokeSoc: PokeSoc Plays Pokemon Leaf Green - Free 7-10pm Exchange Seminar Red, Penryn Campus We hook our laptop up to a monitor in a room and project the game for everybody to see. Every 20 mins or so we will rotate who will be playing the game. 21

Kayaking: Free Harbour Paddle - Free 11am-1pm Falmouth Watersports Centre A nice paddle around the harbour for people of any skill level. Green Living: Fence and Step Making in the Garden - Free 11am-3pm Allotment in the Walled Garden, Penryn Campus Come down to the walled garden where we’ll be building and painting fences for the allotment and making steps for the path. Generation Wild: Outdoor Education Taster - £2 1-4pm Penryn Campus (meet outside The Exchange revolving doors) Learn how to safely deliver outdoor education for children. Campfire cooking, shelter building and more. Eco Soc: Litter Pick/Walk to Flushing - Free (bring £2.50 for the ferry back)

1-5pm Location: From the Moor – Flushing A walk to Flushing, picking up litter on the way and also IDing birds and plants as we go. Finishing in Flushing at the pub and then on the ferry back at 5pm.

Sea Swimming: Sea Swim - Free 1-2pm Gyllyngvase Beach - meet by the benches The sea is free! Bring money for fish and chips afterwards. Join us for our weekly swim. It’ll be bracing but we can brave the cold - we’ll even relax our ‘no wetsuits’ rule. 22
