Our climate resembles a huge jigsaw puzzle: we don’t know exactly how the pieces fit together, and some pieces are still missing. Clouds are one of the great unknowns in
this puzzle. Researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich are investigating the formation and composition of these ethereal structures, as well as their impact on the climate. Their findings could be an important step forward for climate simulations. In this issue, you will also learn how our scientists contribute to conserving our environment and resources – for example by developing energy-efficient transistors and a paint remover without solvents. And if you have always wanted to know why you can never seem to “rise and shine” in the morning: our researchers have some interesting new answers to this question.
