An instrument of Energy

This is a dialogue between the solidity of frost gentle rhythm of fog and the energy of the human being.

This tensegrity structure is gentle enough to respond to the energy fluctuations in both the formation of fog and the relationship of the user meaning that the covering the user and the enviroment work in synergy to transform the space.

This membrane is an an instrument for the forces of nature to play with and the user to learn to control. This is an instrument that one can learn how to play along side with nature since learn of its different rhythms and transform ones way of being.

An Energy System based on Tensegrity This pavilion is composed of three elements. A wall which lyrically traces the way through the structure.

It is transforms and has the possibility to be crystallized by frost because of the proximity of the fibers. It weaves the system to the site by a play of plannes that brush the ground and grow out from it. This planes also adapt to the human body creating places for dwelling and sitting down within.

At the center of the structure the hearth is expressed as a glass box.

This is the focal point rooting the dwelling got the forces of the earth. Here one can become free from the confusion caused by the condition of being on the exterior. This is both a place of protection as well as a place of dialogue and play with nature and the structure. It is literally the control room for the instrument. Strings are connected inside to the exterior triangular compression frames. This way the user can modify and play in harmony with the fog and transform a space. Finally the element that gives this pavillion the magic is the movement is the tensegrity membrane which can be modified from the hearth and changed by the fog.

The pulsations of the membrane relate to slow and gentle movement through the fog where one is able to wonder. A place where the future becomes invisible and uncertain. This movement is made possible by the movement of the hearth which works as the focal point rooting the energy system. It is a mediator between the user and the forces of the earth. As the load on the hearth changes the equilibrium of tensegrity allows the membrane to respond.

The membrane reacting to fog in this system is tensed on a triangular compression frame.

The equilibrium achieved by tensegrity in this synergistic system gives the allows the membrane to move and react to both the weather phenomena and the user with a certain magic. The membranes appear to float above the structure alluding to the lightness of the fog. The tension cables which sometimes connect it to the ground and other to key compression poles allow the membrane to define a clear composition and orchestration of experiences which relate to the human body.
