ABOUT THE PROJECT
Sertão is a region in Brazil located in the inland territory of the northeast region. It´s a very hash site due to its dry and hot weather. Generally, its inhabitants have a low income, below the minimum Brazilian wage and are constantly affected by the dry season and frequent droughts, resulting in a lack of food and water. Many families in the Sertão have a dysfunctional structure. The “generic family” for which we developed a house project is formed by 5 people: three single sisters, one son and a daughter. The oldest sister has a son, the middle one has no kids and the younger has a daughter. Considering that it would be autoconstructed by the owners, the plans had to be easy to be understood by laypersons with basic to no schooling and materials had to be local and low cost.
