Welcome toGAIA Amongst categories which distinguish us, Art is a category which unites us. It shapes and reflects societies through a common language that reaches our thoughts and emotions. In arts, we find the connection to team up. We find the inspiration and motivation to work together towards a healthier community. A strong future depends on a cohesive moral foundation where we educate each other, respect our differences and create energy. ‘GAIA’ activities makes us activists, bring us closer as a community and empower us to take care of our home Earth. Cheers to a better future.

One of my favourite quotes that comes to my mind is; ‘’Art without Content is a waste of Space.’’ In my opinion, the ‘GAIA’ event concept is directly related to this. Matter of fact, we humans are the sole responsible for what goes on around our planet. Apart from political statements and actions, it is better that we start to think at how we can make a change ourselves and start behaving in a way to protect our tiny, fragile, precious sphere. Welcome to Gaia.

GOTO Malta Car Sharing Company’s Vision GoTo’s cars are electric and while the direct replacement of petrol or diesel vehicles by their fleet will help the overall situation to REDUCE TRAFFIC, CONGESTION AND POLLUTION, they are looking beyond this. Malta’s electric car infrastructure is still in its infancy, and by helping build and develop it further, GOTO hopes to encourage more electric dreams to come true. The company believes that GoTo Malta will stimulate more interest in electric vehicles and encourage others to take charge and drive positive change not only for Malta and GoTo, but in the world as well. www.goto.com.mt
CO2 neutrality by Faber-Castell In the fight against climate change, reducing emissions by saving energy is an important measure in the industry. By determining the "climate-relevant footprint" of the company, Faber-Castell have been helping to establish the climate balance at all production sites around the world since 2010. With our forests in Brazil, we are one of the few companies in our sector to achieve climate-neutral status with our own forests. Corporate carbon footprint The carbon footprint is a tool for measuring the total carbon dioxide emissions resulting either directly or indirectly from the activities of a company. The carbon footprint has gained in importance over the past few years in particular, as it is a helpful tool for measuring the impact of company activities on the climate. The carbon footprint of the Faber-Castell Group has been calculated in cooperation with external institutes since 2009. For this calculation, the emissions are divided into three different scopes of greenhouse gas emissions based on the "Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard" of the "Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative" (GHG Protocol), and then calculated and analysed. The total quantity of emitted greenhouse gases for the Faber-Castell Group according to scope 1, 2 and 3 amounted to 35,876 tCO2 equivalents for the business year 2013/14. In the previous year (2012/13), the total was 32,868 tCO2. The increase in emissions was due to the increased demand for the products on an international level and the associated increase in wood-cased pencil production. Read More: www.faber-castell.com

Gold Medal Awardee 2018 In his artistic career, Paul Haber has transformed his local inspiration into an aesthetic language which speaks to everybody. His artworks which capture and reflect the genuine tones and moods of Malta, continue to inspire artists. Paul Haber graduated in ceramics from the Central St. Martin College of Art in London after intensive studies in art and sculpture in Malta, Italy and the UK. Today Paul produces unique ceramic art works, which although dissimilar to each other, bear the imprint, inspiration and ingenious execution which identifies each superb piece created by him.
Although intrinsically simple in form, Paul's works invoke a power which belies the seemingly effortless, building techniques culminating in the final creation. His choice of glazes whether in bright or muted hues, or even the lack of glazing, when he is impelled to use the natural colours of his different clay bodies as his canvas, are in perfect harmony, complementing the inspired idea exposed to the viewer in a myriad of forms and shapes at times deformed or purposely distorted to engage his audience and stimulate viewers to give the art piece their own personal interpretation. Without forcing himself or the material he treats with great respect, Paul produces exciting works, which like his own spirit, are uncomplicated but strong, minimal but at the same time laden with feelings and inspirations etched on his soul through a lifetime of memories, impressions and experiences. In June 2018, Paul Haber showcased a solo exhibition at the Mairie du 1er arrondissement, Salle des Expositions in Paris, titled Colours of Malta. In a retrospective exhibition, 37 of Paul Haber’s sculptures and installations are displayed at Aldabra Gallery, SmartCity Malta for public viewing until 4th January 2019. www.aldabragallery.com/paul-haber

Cushion Cushion, a Fusion band of cosmopolitan sounds which is based in Malta, offers a very interesting mid tempo fusion of western and eastern chill-out music, mostly inclined towards the sound of India, with dominant sitar licks, eastern inclinations on vocal threads, backed with sublime ambience from the keys, and interesting bass and drum patterns to wrap it all up. During live performances, Cushion also often include professional dancing choreographies with other special acts such as fire juggling and buugeng. Cushion was formed with the intention to offer a musical alternative to reduce the daily stress, a “cushion to absorb shocks that daily life sometimes incurs on us. The main influences of Cushion, come from a fusion of music genres including Ravi Shankar, Masaladosa, Anoushka Shankar, Hans Zimmer, Niladri Kumar, Rush, Bonobo, Lab's Cloud, Jean Michel Jarre, Bob Marley and Prem Joshua, Apart from gigging around the Maltese Islands, taking part in most of the dominant festivals in Malta, including Rock the South, Ghana Fest, Birgu Fest, Earth Garden, The Bubble, Sunscape and Malta Farsons Beer Festival, Cushion have also performed live in Northern Cyprus at the Naci Talat Festival.
