Volume calculations Original site volume: 1269158.92 m3

Site volume with platform cut and fill: 1269451.17 m3 (+292.25m3 from previous)

Final site volume: 1269777.67 m3 (+326.5m3 from previous, + 618.75m3 from original site)

The volume measurement tool is useful for determining conscientious use of soil in the context of site cut and fill excavation. Our site had more fill than cut volume thus increasing the overall volume of the site. Balancing the overall volume may be achieved by cutting the paths and/ or the house platform into the landscape more. However, this may create an issue with site experience, creating a claustrophobic and imposing feel to the paths. Thus the sensitive use of soil from surrounding areas of the site may be a more appropriate approach to balancing the overall cut and fill volumes, for both environmental and economic purposes.
