Ag Cothú na Gaeilge in Eaglais na hÉireann
an rúnaí agus go háirithe Caroline Nolan as na míorúiltí atá á gcruthú aici. Táimid an-bhuíoch de Fhoras na Gaeilge as an dtacaíocht fhlaithiúil a thugtar dúinn. Anois táimid sa tríú bliain de chonradh trí bhliana leis an bhForas. Táimid ag ullmhú aighneachta faoi láthair chun tacaíocht leanúnach a fháil ón bhForas ina dhiaidh sin.

Tháinig toscaireacht ón mBreatain Bheag agus bhí seirbhíse trítheangach againn in Ardteampeall Chríost. Tá súil againn tógáil ar an gcaidreamh seo. Tá éileamh sách mór ar an leabhar nua agus tá fhios againn go bhfuil tacaíocht ann ón bpobal áitiúil mar bíonn Gaeilge le cloisteáil i seirbhísí fud na tíre nach mbíodh ann roimhe seo. Leis an leabhar nua bíonn misneach ag ministrí le beagán Gaeilge tabhairt faoi phíosaí Gaeilge a fhí isteach sna seirbhísí. Ina measc siúd d’fhreastail mé ar dhá sheirbhís Ghaeilge san aon lá amháin i mí na Nollag i mBéal Feirste – ceann acu i dteampall Preispitéireach agus an ceann eile i dteampall Naoimh Seoirse. Bunaíodh Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise sa bhliain 1914. Beidh an coiste nua ag tabhairt aghaidh ar thógáil ar an mbonn atá leagtha síos le cúpla bliain anuas agus ar chomóradh céad bliain bhunú an Chumainn. -----------------------Without a doubt the highlight of our work this year was the publication of Holy Communion and other Frequently used Services. Bishop Michael Burrows had long wished for such a text, based on the Welsh experience of parallel texts, to help people move seamlessly from Irish to English and visa versa while allowing everyone to follow the service. We were delighted that a Welsh delegation came to the launch and we hope to build on this friendship in the future. The demand for the new bilingual book from parishes and individuals and its use during the St. Patrick Day services and since then, has demonstrated its usefulness as a resource. The last year has been very busy for us and we could not have achieved so much without the help and support of a lot of people and our funders, Foras na Gaeilge. However, special mention must go to Bishop Michael Burrows, Archdeacon Gary Hastings, Dean Dermot Dunne and our Committee, especially our secretary Aonghus Dwane and our Development Officer, Caroline Nolan. “We have a great heritage in the Irish Language let’s use it and enjoy it”

As we draw closer to our centenary in 2014 we are delighted with the sense of renewal in the work of Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise in recent years.
Bhí seirbhísí agus imeachtaí trí Ghaeilge á fhorbairt i ndeoise Bhaile Átha Cliath, agus corr-imeacht in áiteanna eile le blianta beaga anuas, ach bhíomar lag ar an talamh sa chuid is mó den tír.
Services and events in Irish had been developed in Dublin and the occasional event held at other locations, however our presence was patchy in most parts of the country.
I 2008, chuir an coiste nua romhainn athnuachan a dhéanamh ar an gcumann. Thapaíomar an deis i 2010 iarratas a dhéanamh ar maoiniú ó Foras na Gaeilge, maoiniú a chuir ar ár gcumas Oifigeach Forbartha lánaimseartha a fhostú. Ó shin i leith, tá ár nOifigeach, Caroline Nolan, in ann cuidiú le paróistí agus grúpaí áitiúla ar fud an oileáin a ghríosadh agus a chumasú chun seirbhísí agus imeachtaí úra a chur ar bun, mar aon le tograí nua cosúil leis an leabhar iomann dátheangach (le hionsporáid ónár bPátrún, an tEaspag Michael Burrows) a thionscnamh. Táimid freisin, trí imeachtaí cosúil le Comórtas Bedell, in ann aos óg Eaglais na hÉireann a mhealladh chun eiseamláir a sinsir a leanúint agus an Ghaeilge a chaomhnú agus a fhorbairt. Tá muid ag súil go mbeimid in ann an oidhreacht shaibhir seo a thabhairt slán lenár linn féin, agus tuilleadh forbartha a fheiceáil sna blianta amach romhainn.
In 2008 the newly elected Committee set about the renewal of the Cumann and took the opportunity, in 2010, to apply for funding from Foras na Gaeilge to enable us to employ a fulltime Language Development Officer. Since then, our language officer, Caroline Nolan has helped facilitate parishes and groups throughout the island to establish new services and events, as well as inaugurating new initiatives such as the new bilingual prayer book (inspired by our Patron, Bishop Michael Burrows). We have also been able, through initiatives such as Comórtas Bedell, to encourage the younger generation in the Church of Ireland to follow in the footsteps of earlier generations in conserving and developing the Irish language. We are confident of being in a position to safeguard this precious heritage in our own time, and look forward to seeing further positive developments in the years ahead. Now in its 41st year this interdenominational service, during the Octave for Christian Unity, was held in Christ Church Cathedral, on the 25th January, and organised jointly by Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise and Pobal an Aifrinn. Buíochas do gach duine as an tacaíocht láidre.

“Delighted to hear the Lord’s Prayer in Irish in our Church on St. Patrick’s Day. It meant so much to me”. The number of services in Irish (or blingually) for St. Patrick’s Day are increasing every year. This year there were 25+ services in Irish and/or bilingually.
There are regular monthly services in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin – the last Sunday of each month (bilingual service at 3.30) and the 4th Monday (Lunchtime service at 12.45 as Gaeilge).
A new regular monthly service also started this year in St. George’s Church, Belfast on the first Sunday of each month at 3.00

The Prince of Wales and his wife, Camille, asked to meet with Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise on their visit to St. George’s Church, Belfast. Prince Charles was presented with a copy of the Book of Common Prayer in Irish. The Bishop of Bangor, the Rt. Rev Andrew John, led a delegation including Mr. Cynog Davis, former MP and AM for Ceredigion, Rev Canon Nia Catrin Williams, Diocese of Bangor and Rev. Gwynn ap Gwilym, Bishops' Adviser for Church Affairs for the launch of our new parallel text, Holy Communion and other Services of the Church of Ireland. We began the Bedell Cup competition to Scoil Ashton An Scoil Ríoga, encourage the greater use of Irish in CofI secondary schools. Teachers and pupils have Cabhán Scoil Coláisteach really excelled in their enthusiasm and Muineacháin Coláiste Chill participation in this competition. We have awarded 7 schools prizes in the last two school years. Ceardlann Cheoil Éist - Iomainn a thaitníodh leat i nGaeilge? Coláiste Oideachais Hymns that you would like to hear in Irish? Eaglais na In November 2012 Cumann Gaelach na hÉireann hEaglaise hosted a workshop in the College of Education, Rathmines, with the student teachers to collect hymns that would be useful in a school setting. We are very grateful to Jacynth Hamill (An Tor ar Lasadh), Ristéard MacAnnraoi and Gillian Armstrong who gave of their time and expertise to lead this workshop.

Bealtaine 2013 An Sionad Ginearálta Turas Oilithreachta i nDaingean Uí Chúis, Gleann Dá Loch agus Cluain Mhic Nóis.
Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise had a stand at the General Synod in May. Once again we were overcome by the level of interest in our work. Over 400 copies of our new parallel text book were sold in the first two months.
Comments received in relation to Archbishop Clarke reading the Blessing in Irish at the Sionad Service. “Was it really him? I thought so, but I wanted to be sure!”.
A bilingual service in St. James’s Church, followed by a pilgrimage walk now forms part “Marvelous, a credit to him” of The Dingle Festival Programme. “Wasn’t he wonderful”. A big thank you to Canon George Salter for presiding at the service on 5 May and to Rev. Máirt Hanley for leading the pilgrimage walk. We started a series of pilgrimage trips in 2012, the first to Glendalough. Due to its success it was decided to go to Clonmacnoise in 2013 for the open-air service in July.

As part of the Pan Celtic Festival held in Ireland (hosted in Carlow), Canon Salter, assisted by the Rev. Peter Tarleton presided at a service in Carlow in May.
In 2011 we organised a service at the Oireachtas in Killarney and, due to the good attendance, we attended the Oireachtas in November 2012 in Letterkenny. Many thanks to all who attended, and especial thanks to Ms. Margaret Boyd, and her nephew, Tomas Boyd for their great assistance in relation to the music for the service.

We held a training session in Cork for members of the clergy who wanted to gain confidence in presiding at a service in Irish – or even with a little Irish. It was very helpful to compare notes on how different ministers had approached this and we had a practical session on reading a service in Irish.
We also had a feedback session in Dungarvin with the clergy in the Diocese of Cashel and Ossory who had held services in Irish in 2012.
