I r em em ber the fir st tim e I touched a basketball. I could totally feel som ething w as tr ying to push m e and w anted m e to keep playing and never give up. So fr om that day, I star ted to challenge my br other all the tim e at basketball; w ishing som eday I could beat him . Last sum m er, w hen I r etur ned to Taiw an, my br other told m e that he think I had im pr oved so m uch that he needed to star t w or king on his skills too! And so, my basketball life stor y begins. Last year, I joined our chur ch's Upw ar d team and I began to lear n a little bit about Chr ist Jesus. I m ust adm it, this w as one of the m ost im por tant w ays I got to know Jesus. M y inter est in the celebr ities of the spor t cam e w hen I w as w atching the new s w ith my fam ily. The stor y w as about a r ising Taiw anese basketball star nam ed Jer emy Lin. Bor n on August 23, 1988, Jer emy Lin gr ew up playing basketball so m uch and becam e so fam ous that people gave him a new nam e: Lin Sanity. He has alw ays been the her o of my basketball dr eam s and som eone I w ish to em ulate. Oh, and he is also a Chr istian! That m ade m e so excited w hen I hear d he know s Jesus Chr ist too! Living in Am er ica as an inter national student can som etim es feel over w helm ing and at tim es ver y lonely. Last year, my host dad and m om told m e I should go outside and play w ith the kids in my neighbor hood. So I did. As it Doris Kao tur ns out, they w er e actually r eally fun to play w ith Basketball Player once I got to know them and they got used to having m e ar ound. Dur ing this tim e, I m et a kid nam e M atthew ; he is one of my best fr iends in our gr oup. M atthew has the m ost beautiful eyes I?ve ever seen! And w e both lear n a lot fr om each other. To be honest, he is not a ver y good basketball player. But I star ted to teach him and he star ted to get better w ith the ball. I am so pr oud of M atthew, especially w hen he show s m e the new skills he has lear ned! I am r eally sur pr ised how God has given m e oppor tunities to teach and m ake new fr iends this w ay. And then ther e is this kid nam ed Chr istian; he?s aw esom e at basketball! In fact, he is par t of the Picker ington Centr al High School basketball team and I can totally see him being a star on his team ! He cr osses over people, flicks, and br eaks the ankle! W hen I star ted r ealizing how m uch fr iendship is involved in basketball it m ade m e sm ile. I?ve r ead com ics on the inter net and hear d r eal life stor ies about how the gam e of basketball is a good w ay to find the per fect m ate and fall in love. I totally believe this to be tr ue. I?m thankful to God that He cr eated this spor t to unite people, build fr iendships, and m ake life m or e com plete w her ever I m ay go.
