Living room theatre

From soundbars and speakers to TVs, here’s what to get to enhance your viewing and audio experience.

Audio and TV technology has improved so much over the years, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy an amazing cinematic experience in your living room. Here’s what you need to create your very own home theatre system. Don’t forget the popcorn!

Soundbar set-up

Forget the tiny speakers we used to stash in front of the TV. Today’s soundbars do a far better job at delivering quality sound, and they look cooler, too. Plus, they only need one cable to connect to the TV.

For the best surround sound, it’s useful to get a ready-to-use home theatre package, which, along with a soundbar, includes satellite speakers and a subwoofer.

Satellite speakers

Satellite speakers are ideal for creating immersive surround sound in a small- to medium-size room. You can place them behind or on the side of the listening area. A subwoofer is a loudspeaker that handles the lower frequencies (or bass). It’s best described as helping you to “feel” sound.

TVs

If you don’t have much space to work with or don’t want to buy a projector, a large-screen TV is your most practical choice to getting the biggest images. For an excellent theatre-like effect, choose a TV with a 65-inch (or bigger) display panel and make sure it supports 4K resolution (whatever you’re watching will just look sharper and appear more detailed). Do also look out for a TV with HDR, or High Dynamic Range, which most of today’s TVs already have. HDR makes compatible content look richer in colour and more realistic, vastly improving the viewing experience. There are three HDR content standards, namely, Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.

Includes Quantum Dot and NanoCell technology for more vivid and enriched colours. Images look sharper, brighter and more detailed as well, thanks to the thousands of tiny backlights that fill the screen. You’ll also enjoy personalised settings and content from the biggest streaming platforms.

Samsung’s slimmest-profile TV offers vivid crystal colour and stunning detail for the most lifelike visuals. Sleek and stylish, it blends seamlessly into the wall. It also includes the brand’s new SmartHub, which puts your favourite movies, shows and other content in one place so you spend less time searching.
