by European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through NORTE 2020 (Programa Operacional Regional do Norte 2014/2020) Scientific area: Agricultural Sciences Mandatory requirements: a) PhD in Agronomy, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Food Science or related fields; b) Research experience; c) Immediate availability. Desirable requirements: a) Experience in scientific production; b) Research experience in scientific areas included in the work plan; c) English language domain. Workplace: The research work will be conducted at the Centre for The Research and Technology of Agro­Environmental and Biological Sciences, located at Vila Real, Portugal, under the supervision of Professors Carlos Correia, Paula Lopes, Fernando Nunes and Anabela Silva. Grant Duration: Duration: 12 months, starting at May 2016. The grant may be renewed until the end of the project. The fellow's functions should be performed on an exclusive basis. Monthly maintenance grant: The amount of the grant corresponds to €1,495.00, according to the amount's table of the grants awarded directly by FCT in the country. Research work plan: The fellow will be integrated in the subproject “Improving olive orchards cropping practices to cope with a changing environment” that intends to introduce innovative agricultural practices and technologies (ground­cover, canopy, nutrient and water management), in order to promote the performance of olive trees under more adverse climate conditions, protect the environment and the quality and safety of olive products. As co­responsible for the scientific management of the project, the fellow will: ­ Develop research on agronomy, ecophysiology, molecular biology and plant composition areas, namely in activities such as water relations, photosynthesis, carbon metabolism, oxidative stress, gene expression, cytogenetics, growth, yield, composition of olive products and valorization of olive mill wastes. ­ Write progress reports and prepare results for publication and dissemination. ­ Plan and carry out research of her/his own initiative, in accordance with the assigned project goals. ­ Co­supervisor researchers involved in work plan. Evaluation methods: Candidates will be selected based on the letter of motivation and on curriculum evaluation, which, if necessary, can be complemented by a selection interview to the best candidates, up to a maximum of 5 candidates. Applicants who reside abroad can be interviewed via videoconference. The classification in the first phase will be obtained by applying the following criteria:a) Motivation letter ­ 5 points; b) Scientific production, based on the number of JCR articles weighted by the journal ranking (1.5,1.0, 0.5 and 0.25 for Q1 to Q4, respectively), and the author position (1.0 for first and senior author and 0.5 for other positions) ­ (maximum of 55 points); c) Research experience in scientific areas included in work plan­ 10 points/each area (maximum of 40 points); If the Selection Committee decides to hold a selection interview, the final classification will be obtained by applying a coefficient of 40% to the interview.Selection Committee: Professor Carlos Correia (President), Professor Paula Lopes (effective member), Professor Fernando Nunes (effective member). Results publication/ Candidates notification: The results of the selection process will be communicated via email to all candidates. After the announcement of the results, candidates are considered automatically notified to, if they wish to do so, comment on the results on a preliminary hearing period within 10 days. The selected candidate must sign a declaration of acceptance and communicate the effective start date of grant. Except under adequate justification, the lack of declaration within the required period is equivalent to grant resignation. In case of resignation by the first selected candidate, the option will be the second (and so on) according the list ordered by the Jury, to be included in the selection minutes.
