Research Grant for Masters (1 vacancy) Reference: BI/Innofood/UTAD/355/2014

It is available one research grant for masters, within the project INNOFOOD from the research institution CITAB - Centro de Investigação e Tecnologias Agroambientais e Biológicas from Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Portugal financed by the North Portugal Regional Operational Programme (ON.2 – O Novo Norte), under the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN), through the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), as well as by National Funds (PIDDAC) through the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT/MEC), under the following conditions: Scientific area: Agrarian Sciences [or Biological Sciences.] Admission prerequisites: 1 - Master in Agrarian Sciences or Biological Sciences or related areas. 2 - Skills and testified experience on field crop research, ecophysiology and molecular technologies based on genomics and proteomics. 3 - Should also have experience with statistical analysis tools. 4 - Dynamism, team spirit, high sense of responsibility, organization and method. 5 - Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and communication skills.

Work plan: The candidate will join the research group responsible for the agronomical, physiological and quality studies on cherry tree. Activities to be developed:


- Establishment and maintenance of the field trials; - Analysis of soil water content, evapotranspiration and plant water status; - Determination of photosynthesis and respiration rates; - Determination of olive yield and tree crop growth; - Chemical and antioxidant activity composition of cherries. Workplace: Work will be conducted at CITAB - Centro de Investigação e Tecnologias Agroambientais e Biológicas da Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro under the supervision of Prof. Berta Gonçalves. Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro is located at Vila Real, Portugal. Grant Duration: Grant duration is 6 months starting at June or July 2014, and may be renewed until the end of the project. Monthly maintenance grant: The grant corresponds to 980 euros according to the FCT payment table in Portugal (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Payment is done on a monthly basis through bank deposit, cheque or other equivalent way. Candidates’ selection criteria: The selection methods to use will be the following: 1 - Curriculum vitae evaluation: scale 0 to 20 values; 2 - Motivation to work in the area: scale 0 to 20 values;


3- Interview of the candidates in the case they are tied: scale 0 to 20 values. Selection methods: Candidates will be sorted in a scale from 0 to 20 values, with rounding to the first decimal place and using the following weights for the selection criteria: Curriculum vitae evaluation (80%); Motivation to work in the area (0 to 20%); Interview (0 to 20%). Results publication/ Candidates notification: The final results will be made available publicly in a sorted list according to candidates’ marks. The list will be placed Building P2, University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro. The candidates will be informed by e-mail.
