Regular readers will conirm, with annoyed groans, that I am properly obsessed with purpose. A vehicle’s ideal usage is almost as important to me as the painful abuse thereof. And now, ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to the brand-new Ineos Grenadier… which has the actual tagline “built on purpose”.

On purpose How cool does that sound?

Althoughtheycould’vealsosaid“outofspite” becausebynow,mostpeopleknowthestory oftheGrenadier’sbirthIneosownerandallround genius billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe wantedtobuythetoolingforBritain’snowdefunctbutwell-loved4×4and theysaidno

Thestoryiscertainlynotquiteascasualbut conirms one of my predictions when I reviewedthelastoutdatedBritishicon:that someonewouldkeepbuildingit.Backthen, mymoneywasontheIndiansorChinesebut littledidIknowthatitskeepersweresoholy abouttheolddearthatthey’dbrushoffthe advancesofafellowcountryman

AndsoitcametobethatIneos,a25-year-old chemicals company, formed Ineos AutomotiveLtdin2017andcommitteditself tobuildingtheworld’sultimatefour-wheel drivevehicleCodenamed“ProjectGrenadier” (afterSirRatcliffe’sfavouriteLondonpub), the vehicle started taking shape in an abnormallypublicandtransparentprocess

And now, before I get to our deeply impressivedrivingandoff-roadingbits,allow me to re/introduce you to the brand-new IneosGrenadier Yes,itsharessomevague similarities with other vehicles but the companyneverwaveredfromtheirdirective: to build a no-frills, no-fuss, best-in-class, durableandutilitarianoff-roadvehicle
