Johnny Cash once said “Be yourself and there are few limitations in life.” Turns out that’s the philosophy of a lot of iconic people and places. Spend some time in Gallatin, Tennessee, and you’ll discover what we’re talking about.
Located about 20 miles northeast of Nashville, Gallatin is that rare town that’s perfectly comfortable with its own place in the world. Sure, the folks in Gallatin love being able to spend time in a very large, very cool city like Nashville whenever they want. But what they love even more is being able to come home to what they regard as their own little corner of heaven — a town filled with true grit and amazing grace that is both remarkably simple and simply remarkable.
The thing is, the people of Gallatin have got some attitude. They would rather focus on enjoying their own lives than worry about keeping up with the Joneses, with Nashville or anyone else. Strong character and strong opinions mean they do things their own way, with an eye
toward what works not what’s trending. And they’re refreshingly unconcerned about trying to impress people — which is what impresses so many people who come here.
Gallatin is filled with true grit and amazing grace that is both remarkably simple and simply remarkable.
Maybe Gallatin’s attitude comes from age and experience. The grit and grace sure do. Both have been here for a long, long time. Gallatin is no newly minted suburb or bedroom community; it was established in 1802 as the seat of Sumner County. Even before it was formally incorporated, it served as home base for independent-minded people of legendary grit and courage – from long hunters to patriots – looking to settle Tennessee. That same spirit is alive and well today. . . in hardworking men and women who support their families,
their community and their country. You heard right. It’s still cool to be patriotic in Gallatin.
That grit is evident in the tenacity of entrepreneurs who have risked it all for a dream. In the faces of students –whether pursuing a degree or work skills – on the campuses of Welch College and Volunteer State Community College. In the wear and tear etched into the bricks of beautiful buildings hundreds of years old. And the calluses on the hands of blue collar workers and farmers whose strength and will are the cornerstone of the American dream. Not to mention, in the dents and dings on the town’s many trucks (Chevy, of course!) whose work ethic, endurance and ageless style embody the spirit of Gallatin.
Anyone who has ever watched the two local high school teams play football (especially against each other) are familiar with Gallatin grit. Grit is also at the heart of the success of big companies like Servpro, Beretta and the Gap (along with many others) who decided to settle
in a small Tennessee town and have reaped the benefits tenfold. Grit truly is that “extra something” that separates successful people and places from the rest. But room to grow, supportive leadership, a prime location, and a lower tax structure don’t hurt either.
For every example of grit in Gallatin, there is a beautiful grace note, too. Most towns lean more toward one quality or the other. That a place known for its hardworking grit would also be filled with such amazing grace makes Gallatin both distinct and distinctly appealing.
analyze it all that much. They just know the spirit is real. If you’re in Gallatin, you’re part of Gallatin. It’s that simple.
Here’s the truth about grit and grace. These aren’t qualities you can manufacture (although many towns have tried). You can’t retrofit them into your downtown or instill them into the character of your people. Grit and grace are as old as the
hills that define the Gallatin landscape. They grow from your roots. From your character. And that’s why the people of Gallatin consider themselves so darn lucky. Because they love being able to live with the freedom that arises from that rare combination of grit and grace. It’s Gallatin’s secret sauce. And none of the ingredients are artificial. §
Even before you enter the city limits, you’re aware of the natural grace — the abundant trees and rolling hills, sweeping green pastures and the curves of long driveways leading to historic estates – that are reminders of the city’s gracious horsebreeding past. You’ll see it on mornings when the fog rises off the Cumberland River, and in the relaxed beauty of Old Hickory Lake. You’ll hear it in the peals of church bells that ring out every Sunday. You’ll find it in neighborhoods with some of Middle Tennessee’s finest homes, where kids still ride bikes and you can still borrow a cup of sugar. It seems that grace is the gentle glue that elevates neighbors to friends and friends to family.
Most of all, though, you’ll notice Gallatin’s gracious hospitality. No one is a stranger here. In every store, every restaurant, every church or school or event, you’ll be greeted with gusto. In fact, tolerance and a “live and let live” mindset are all part of the Gallatin attitude. Turns out when people are comfortable being who they are, they’re equally comfortable with you being whatever you want to be. Of course, people here don’t really try to

Gallatin Miracle Park
Together
Amy and Nate Nixon and their partner, Richard Bennett, started Nixon Repair Services 2022. Combined, Nate and Richard have over 40 years of experience repairing and installing residential appliances. Former competitors, fate and a passion for doing business the right way, brought the two together.
Nixon Repair Services can repair all major brand residential appliances. According to Nate, “It takes a lot of trust to let someone come into their home - their nest. We do not take that lightly. In fact, we have shared many personal moments with our customers. It’s the best part of our job, our relationships.” In addition to appliance repair, Nixon Repair Services sponsors teams for the Gallatin Little League and all 5 employees can be found giving back to our community.
The Friends of the Gallatin Miracle Park
Amy Nixon, Nate’s wife and office manager, gives back in her own way. Amy is currently the Secretary of The Friends of the Gallatin Miracle Park. The Miracle Park is a special place for the Nixon family. Their oldest daughter, Avery, age 12, has significant health issues and special needs, but she loves to play alongside her brothers Parker (7) and Quinn (4). Gallatin’s Miracle Park is that place for the entire family.

park designed specifically for ALL children. The Miracle Park is Tennessee’s largest all-inclusive park with almost 6 acres of ADA compliant recreation for those with mobility impairments and special needs as well as their brothers and sisters.
The Miracle Park is open every day from sunrise to sunset. It boasts a Miracle Field with artificial turf and level bases, a Peddle Park for wheels of all kinds - bikes, power wheels, or wheelchairs - and an all-inclusive playground featuring swings for wheelchairs, an easy-toride zipline, merry-go-round, game board and musical instrument, and finally a sensory area!
For the Nixon Family, The Miracle Park is the icing on the cake for making Gallatin home. According to Amy, “we go to the park every day we can! It’s a perfect and safe place for all 3 of my children to play together, and it’s such a gift that it is right here in Gallatin.” The Nixon Repair philosophy is “to always show up!” So if they aren’t stopping by to fix your dishwasher or fridge (obsessively on time), they are probably playing with their kids at Gallatin’s own Miracle Park. §

It’s no secret that Sumner County is full of leaders, but with our unique proximity to Ft. Campbell and welcoming community, we have the privilege of living and working alongside many Veterans of our Armed Forces.
Veteran-Owned Businesses
Service, Success, and Solidarity
IIt is our honor to feature three local businesses owned and operated by Veterans of the Army, the Marine Corps and the U.S. Navy. All three businesses, led by veterans, put people first, understand success is only possible when you’re surrounded by good people, and that serving the greater good is good for the soul. And is very good for Gallatin!
We thank them for their service, their sacrifice and their commitment to our country and to our community.
Meet Todd JohnsonEdward Jones
Financial Planner specializing in wealth management, investment strategies, life and long term insurance
Todd is the father of 6 kids and the grandfather of 9. He is also a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones of Gallatin. And while he is proud to have the opportunity to serve his clients and his community, the skills he uses day in and day out, are those he learned as a Special Ops Blackhawk Pilot (among several other roles) in the U. S. Army.
For Johnson, the military is a family affair that runs 6 generations deep. Having begun his military career at 18 with the Naval Reserves, Johnson eventually enlisted as an Army Ranger in 1988. From there his military career twisted and turned into a storied affair. In 1989, Johnson's very first mission was to parachute into Panama. From there he went to flight school, worked as a Warrant Officer, spent 2 years in Bosnia, flew Blackhawks, taught others to fly Blackhawks - and then 9/11. As it did for so many, 9/11 changed the course of Johnson’s career. He left Ft. Bragg for Ft. Campbell where he joined an elite group of pilots to fly an attack variant helicopter known as DAP. He would remain - and finish his career - in Ft. Campbell.
He also managed to complete his degree during those years. As a working Lieutenant, Johnson completed his Bachelor’s degree from Troy State University.
Now a Financial Advisor for Edward Jones, Todd Johnson uses what the Army taught him every day - to plan
for contingencies, think strategically, and always put people first. In fact, his business philosophy - people are more important than machines - was developed during his years in Special Ops, and is the foundation of his financial services. Focus on the people.
At Edward Jones, Johnson gets to teach, coach, mentor and lead, all of which he learned serving his country. Today, Johnson is active in Leadership Sumner and is making up for lost years with those children and grandchildren of his.
Meet Michael LajoieFarmers Insurance
Personal and Commercial Insurance lines, Financial Advisor, Asset and Retirement Management
Michael is proud to serve Sumner County but is also proud to have served his country as a Marine. Having joined The Marine Corps at 17 - just after graduation - Lajoie saw the world and found his spot. He spent four years in active duty before moving to Florida where he finished his Bachelor’s degree.
When asked what he learned most from his experience, without hesitation he said, “(success) isn’t about you, it’s about your team. That was my favorite thing about the military. It took all of us to be successful.” This team approach is what Lajoie brought with him into his post military life.
In 1991, Lajoie followed his then girlfriend, now wife, to Middle Tennessee.
In need of a job, he fell back on the construction experience he gained working his way through college, and began hanging drywall by day and tending bar by night. It was an ad that led him to the insurance business, and it was the way that Farmers, in particular, handles the insurance business that landed him at Farmers. After extensive research, Lajoie discovered that if there were complaints about Farmers, those
“
(Success) isn’t about you, it’s about your team. T hat was my f avor ite thing about the militar y. It took all of us to be successful.”
Michael Lajoie - Farmers Insurancecomplaints were not about service to customers. And service is the one thing Lajoie knew more about than anything. Additionally, Farmers boasts a family rights provision that has allowed Lajoie to build business for himself and his daughter. This commitment to service, doing things the right way, and family made Farmers a perfect fit for the once Marine.
While Lajoie admits that the country as a whole may be in “short supply of leadership”, Sumner County is not. He is actively engaged with the local VFW, the Toys for Tots program, and Habitat for Humanity where he is able to tap into that long ago construction experience.
While his years in the Marine Corps provided him with a foundation of core values, his leadership skills come from the Corps’ 14 tenets - baring, courage, commitment, dependability, decisiveness, enthusiasm, endurance, integrity, initiative, justice, knowledge, loyalty, tact and unselfishness. Lajoie brings all 14 to his clients, his family and his community under the Farmers umbrella of insurance, wealth management, and estate planning.
Meet Carolyn and Glenn Reed
C and G’s Fine Foods
Chef, Caterer, Spreader of Goodwill and Deliciousness
C and G’s Fine Foods has been blessing Sumner County with homemade goodness for almost 40 years! And had Glenn not met his best friend upon a Naval ship out of Norfolk, VA, he might never have met the love of his life, and we would not be the recipients of such deliciousness.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Glenn joined the Navy in 1979. He worked first as a ship serviceman and did everything from working as a barber to running the ship store. Having christened a brand new ship, he set sail out of California and traveled to over 16 different countries. It was on that ship, he met his best friend and shipmate. And as fate would have it, soon then his bride.
Glenn came to Sumner County the first time as a Best Man. But after meeting the groom’s sister, he found any excuse possible to come back to Gallatin. He soon made it his home. Theirs was a love at first sight…and first bite! Carolyn has
been feeding G for as long as he can remember, and it was he that decided she should branch out and start selling her culinary talents. C and G’s began simply as “plates” from their home. From plates, it grew to two different restaurants, and then to a food truck. Wherever she has served, one thing has remained the same, Carolyn and Glenn go above and beyond to provide happiness and contented customers.
Today, C and G’s is a Gallatin staple. The food truck - which Carolyn downsized to in order to free up some time - which, of course, didn’t happen because her food is in such high demand - can be found all over town. It’s easiest to locate it from their Facebook page, but in addition to the truck, Carolyn is feeding the masses at weddings, family reunions, corporate events and church banquets. Her menu started as Southern Cooking but is now everything from BBQ to meat and 3’s to formal desserts. But it isn’t completely the food that makes C and G’s so uniquely special, it’s their commitment to treating everyone around them with grace. As Carolyn says, “you can’t have success without the people around you. That and an unwavering faith in God.” § adds Glenn. §
We thank all veterans for their service, their sacrifice, and their commitment to our country and to our community!
There’s an old saying that “a community is only as strong as its schools,” and in this, we are unmatched. Our schools give kids all the guts and gusto they need to learn the skills needed to make their mark on this world. We are proud to have schools that allow students to learn more about their specific interests.
Building Firm Foundations
Gallatin High School
Founded in 1914, Gallatin High School has long since been a staple for teens and their families in the surrounding area. Their school motto, “‘It’s a great day to be a Green Wave,’” is upheld throughout the community through the preparation of their students to become leaders and workers in Gallatin. GHS strives to encourage students who attend there to look toward the future and offers numerous educational classes to help them navigate the path to their sought after careers. Focus areas unique to GHS include auto, vet science, machining, and cosmetology. Students interested in these areas will find themselves gaining valuable technical knowledge and hands-on experiences while still in high school, which puts them a step above their peers as they enter the professional world.
Goodpasture Christian School
For over 50 years, Goodpasture Christian School has been providing a stellar college-preparatory education in a Christian environment for students 12 months to 12th grade. Focused on building confidence, intellectual growth, and spiritual strength, the school offers a unique balance of academics, arts, and athletics. With a variety of college preparatory and honors classes, students are able to earn up to 65 hours of college credit prior to graduation. One of our favorite Goodpasture features? Their locally-famous kindergarten program is housed in a modern facility designed as a little red schoolhouse!
Liberty Creek High School
Though only in its first year as part of the Sumner County School System, Liberty Creek High School has already made its mark in our community. Their faculty and staff have not only tackled the challenge of starting a new high school and creating a strong culture of academic success, but have also made efforts to offer unique programs to students to help prepare them for their future career paths. Liberty Creek High School boasts two unique courses only available at The Creek - aviation and mechatronics. Both of these courses will not only educate students on various elements of these disciplines, but will also inspire interest and prepare them for possible career opportunities that exist in these two quickly growing fields.
Pope John Paul II Preparatory School
Now serving students in grades 6-12, Pope John Paul II Preparatory School was established in 2002 in Hendersonville as a Catholic school community of faith and service with high academic standards, competitive athletics, and innovative extracurricular programs. Specialty learning at this school includes their signature Innov8 program, a curriculum that provides students with an environment that encourages learning through trial and error. Pope Prep thoroughly prepares their students for future career endeavors with their STEM and Apple Designated School designations, offerings like their community internship program, many summer camp programs, a robotics field, and more.
Sumner Academy
The uniqueness of Sumner Academy’s Pre-K through 8th-grade school prepares their students for success in the real world. Sumner Academy, which is located in the heart of Gallatin, offers a rich learning environment where the staff cultivates individual relationships with every student. This school offers a unique shared classroom style of learning. Students at Sumner Academy benefit from this one-on-one teaching style and hands on learning environment. In 2020, they launched a new dedicated space for their Design Thinking Problem-Solving Model that teaches students to be critically-thinking problem solvers. This model helps prepare students for the future by helping to teach them how to be successful in their careers and community following graduation. §
Connection Builds Community
Meet the Sumner County Collaborative
Connection is at the heart of the community in Gallatin, especially when it comes to the organizations that offer safety net and wrap around services! The Sumner County Collaborative is a group of over 100 local nonprofit, faith, and community leaders who work openly and collaboratively to offer the highest level of service without duplication. Meeting monthly on the 3rd Thursday, the group gathers together to provide introductions to services and offers opportunities for a spotlight organization to present on their topic and/or serve each month.
The Sumner County Collaborative introduces organizations and community partners to the many resources available within our community. Additionally, the group shares events, services, and opportunities from other members to keep all informed and build stronger partnerships. Any nonprofit or community partner that provides a free resource, benefit, or service is welcome to be part of this important community group. For more information or to get involved, contact the Gallatin Shalom Zone at (615) 442-7575.
The Gallatin Chamber Foundation is the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce’s 501(c)3 component that exists to encourage, promote, and support innovative enhancement projects and creative initiatives within the City of Gallatin.
Annually, the Gallatin Chamber Foundation funds innovative education programs in Gallatin K-12 schools through the Innovation and Enhancement Awards. In 2020, the Gallatin Chamber Foundation expanded its awards to include scholarships for graduating seniors, to honor the late Jim Hawkins, a champion for education and the Gallatin area. The James B. Hawkins Good Neighbor Scholarship is available to seniors at Gallatin High School, Liberty Creek High School, and Station Camp High School who exemplify the traits of a good citizen.

Young Life
Since 2013, Young Life Sumner County has met weekly with Sumner County teenagers. Through fellowship, Young Life helps its members build strong relationships with God. These relationships are cultivated in homes and schools; in other words, they go to the kids rather than wait for them to come to them. In 2022, Young Life started at Gallatin High School with a weekly club night, a Bible study opportunity called Campaigners, and summer camp. Area Director Daniel Becker says, “We are helping the next generation through the tough teenage years. Teenagers have a huge distrust of the world around them, and they are looking for someone who will listen to them, love them, and accept them. Young Life leaders are willing to be those people.”
Feed Sumner
Serving not only as a food bank but doubling as a ministry, Feed Sumner is focused on fixing the broken relationships between God and self. Beginning in 2022 and serving as a partner of Second Harvest and multiple other organizations within the community, their heart is to serve & feed people across Sumner County. Each month, they serve 300+ families through food distribution. On the 2nd Saturday, Sumner County residents can visit for a food box packed full of staples to help feed their families. Additionally, they offer relief boxes when inventory allows, blessing bags to meet the needs of the unhoused/ transient persons in our community, and pop-up distributions 2-3 times a month.
Gallatin Shalom Zone
The Gallatin Shalom Zone has been an important part of the Gallatin area since 1999, offering programs and events that address community needs and give opportunities to serve others through volunteering. Believing in community, connection, and collaboration, executive director Bethany Sullivan expresses, “We understand the needs and are humbled and honored to be able to fill those for so many providing programs, events, other non-profits, faith-based partners, and individuals to serve and support those in need.” Programs include afterschool enrichment, robotics coding, summer camps, English as a second language classes, adult education, and more. §
Gallatin’s nonprofit community shines. These organizations serve everyone in our community and affect each of us in one way or another. We live together, support each other, and lend a helping hand. Always.
Deck Your Halls!
2022 Gallatin Christmas Ornament
The 2022 Gallatin Christmas ornament commemorates The Corn Crib. If you’ve been around Gallatin for some time, it’s likely you’ve noticed the red and white striped stand sandwiched between two of the historic buildings on Water Avenue. Under the ownership of Lee West in the 1950s and all the way to the late 1970s with owner, Floyd Scott, it was known as the place to stop for popcorn or at one point, even a snowcone. When walking or driving by Scott’s Popcorn Stand, many remember hearing Mr. Scott exclaim, “Come on get some popcorn”, and you could smell the aroma from the next block.
Now owned by Mudd Properties, the space that for many years has only served as a fun photo op, home to many memories, and a hub for connectivity (housing equipment for the downtown area’s WiFi), once again is a place for…POPCORN! On weekend nights during warm weather months and on special occasions, local business, KB Popcorn, can be found bringing life to the space with their creative flavors. The Corn Crib still stands today at 102 N Water Avenue. Scan the QR code to visit www.shop.gallatintn.org.

John, Josh, and Christy all found a way to bring their passion to life. These three locals exemplify the creativity and diversity of our community - from car parts to graphic design to dog shows - our little slice of Middle Tennessee is alive with energy, hard working people, and passion. Passion for business and hobbies.
Meet Christy Brown Hale
Brown’s Florist
“Everyone should find a way to enjoy their dog.”
Christy’s mom started Brown’s Florist in 1968. Today, her vision and hard work boasts a thriving family business. Mother, daughter, and granddaughter work beside one another day in and day out. But, Christy is the first to admit that, “no one outworks my mom, Claudine!”
Brown’s Florist, the oldest family-owned florist in Sumner County, specializes in all things flowers. Prom, birthdays, graduations, weddings, funerals, births, and every celebration in between. Additionally, Brown’s is a gift store that has changed through the years to meet the needs and wants of our booming community. They can be reached online, in store or by phone but did you know that there is so much more to Brown’s than flowers? Not only do the women of Brown’s specialize in the beauty of flowers, but they also specialize in the beauty of dogs! German Shorthair Pointers (and labs) to be exact.
It’s not often you find a floral designer with a side hustle of showing dogs - but Christy Brown Hale is just that. If she’s not creating centerpieces, she’s probably loving and supporting her 6 dogs. Christy started showing dogs in 1982 and kept busy until 2000 when she was sidelined by her kids’ sports schedules and demands. But in the early 2000s she took up the sport of dog showing once again - this time in a larger breed category - with German Shorthair Pointers. And this passion project now claims the number 1 dog in its class in the entire country: Ripley.
According to Christy, “there’s a game to be played and won” in dog shows, and she loves it. That competitiveness Christy

learned at an early age on the basketball court. Through sports, she learned to play all games with passion, integrity, and grit. Christy is the first to admit that she and her dogs are competitive, but always follows with, “My dogs are always pets first, show dogs second.”
Stop in Brown’s for that special gift or floral arrangement, but stay a minute to share dog stories…nobody makes a better neighbor than a neighbor with a great dog.
Meet Josh Bratcher Graphic Designer
“Good design makes Gallatin look good.”
Josh is an artist and a believer of good design. As Josh says, design matters.
A graduate of the Nossi College of Art, tattoo artist, Disney Aficionado, realtor, Gallatin resident and Middle Tennessee native, Josh brings a dash of magic to everything he touches.
When asked what makes a good design, Josh answered, “(you just have to) make it as magical as you can.”
Josh learned about the power of magic from the masterDisney. As a former vlogger of Disney experiences, Josh spent countless hours immersing himself in the imaginative world of the world’s most beloved characters. From Disney’s logo to the tiniest park details to the hint of pixie dust in the air, Josh took it all in and “it” became his design foundation. For Josh, “Disney is Design”.
Today, that magic and imagination can be experienced through his own artwork. And luckily for us, his designs are popping up everywhere! You can find Josh’s unique touch and sparkle all over Sumner County. The City of Gallatin, Sumner County Tourism, Gallatin Area Chamber, and the Gallatin Department of Electricity (to name a few) - all trusted Josh to bring their brand and logo to life. Josh’s design is our gain, proving that a little magic does go a long way.
Josh Bratcher is detail-oriented, receptive, creative, alive with art, but mostly he’s our neighbor. Our neighbor who also happens to be dotting Sumner County with good design, happiness, and a touch of magic one design at a time.
Meet John & Lisa Hurd
Second Gen Graveyard
“Car people are good people!”
John and his wife, Lisa, moved to Gallatin in 2020 and brought with them their first love - a fleet of restored cars and a passion for doing business the right way. John refers to himself (and Second Gen) as an auto dismantler and wholesale dealer. 15 years ago, Lisa wanted to rebuild an old TrasAm, they needed parts, they turned to Facebook. And from there, the rest is history.
(Continued)
John quickly discovered he had a knack for helping other people find parts, but in California his “passion project” blossomed quickly and he teetered on the line of California Commerce Law… not ideal for a 25 year veteran of law enforcement. So he did the only thing he could do - he built a legitimate business selling parts and representing vendors. Through Facebook, John and Lisa grew Second Gen Graveyard from a small group of enthusiasts to thousands of like minded car lovers. More specifically, car lovers of 1970 - 1981 Firebird, TransAm, and Cameros.
Having found a permanent home in Sumner County for Second Gen Graveyard, John connects customers, parts and vendors all over the world. John’s business philosophy is not a complicated one - buy wholesale, sell at a fair price and make it right if something goes wrong. Oh, and have a little fun doing it!
“The business that was never meant to be a business” provides John and Lisa the chance to share their passion and unique brand of kindness to all their neighbors - locally and globally. Any given Friday, you can find John and Lisa - in Shelia, King, Jose, Bob, Brewster, He Who Is Yet Unnamed, or Trophy Wife - their family of cars - at the Hendersonville Car Show. Stop by and meet their fleet and your neighbor. §
Richard Suter
Living, Personifying, and Exemplifying GUSTO
Maya Angelou once said, “If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased.”
Truer words have never been said when referring to Gallatin’s own Richard Suter. It is our honor to dedicate this year’s guide to Richard who definitely left a mark that cannot, and will not, be erased. Richard lost his battle with pancreatic cancer in the summer of 2022, but what he left behind is immeasurable. His joy, his love, and his thirst for life were contagious and we were the lucky ones to have known him.
Positivity is greater than negativity was Richard’s mantra. A native of Gallatin, Richard lived his life fully and truly embodied the symbols that were tattooed on his arm. He truly believed that approaching life positively will overpower that which is negative. And that positivity was the spark that lit Richard’s passion and creativity.
While he came to photography late in life, he did so with a creative eye and unique perspective. His photos weren’t just beautiful, they were real and raw and honest. Whether he was shooting photos of famous athletes or a bucolic Middle Tennessee landscape, there was a realness
"You can never go wrong loving on people."
to his photos that mirrored the man behind the camera. We are incredibly proud to live in Gallatin. The connection to the past while embracing the future, the community of friends that have yet to meet, and the overpowering feeling of positivity is precisely why we love our corner of Middle Tennessee. But the foundation of everything that makes Gallatin so special is the people. And no one person exemplifies the spirit of Gallatin more than Richard Suter did.
The definition of gusto is an enjoyment or vigor in doing something; zest. There was no one who lived their life
more fully with vigor, enjoyment and zest than Richard Suter. We are proud to carry on that which he embodied - to live fully and completely, support one another unconditionally, love freely and face each new challenge and opportunity with a positive mindset and gusto!

Gallatin is a better place because of people like Homer Bradley. If you knew him, then you surely felt his love and witnessed him set the standard for what leadership, hard work, care for community, and good citizenship look like.
Homer was an active member of the Sumner County community, serving in a variety of roles during his years, including 50+ with Farm Bureau, 70+ with the Masonic Lodge, Cairo Community Club, Gallatin Area Chamber, and more. He volunteered at Sumner Regional Medical Center, logging over 11,000 hours!
He had a passion to meet the needs of those within our community, specifically feeding the hungry. In 2011, he started a motorcycle ride, now known as the Homer Bradley Fall Ride for Food, benefitting Feed Sumner. He was responsible for raising over $350,000 for the local charity.
Homer was a well-known and well-loved member of this community, who inspired and helped more people than we'll ever know. What a legacy of a life well-lived, demonstrating so much love, he leaves behind.

Their mission is to create a space where people can “do life” together, which is exactly how the atmosphere at South Water Manor feels as soon as you walk in the door.
As you make your way through each room of the 150-year old building, it is apparent how much effort has gone into showcasing the exquisite beauty of the historic building itself, while simultaneously making a space for the community to culture new memories together. The front of the building features a dining area with rows of big windows offering beautiful natural light. It is the perfect place to enjoy lunch from the Bistro and catch up with friends and family. From historical markers on streetsides to historic homes standing proud in now-developed neighborhoods, around every corner you can find some connection to the past.
One of these historic gems is right on Main Street (you've likely driven by it dozens of times and wondered about its story)—Historic Stonewall.
Located at 332 East Main Street in Gallatin, this home—with its iconic white pillars and second-floor balcony—was built in 1831. The parlor, with its plush furnishings and overhead chandelier, invites guests to step into the warm yellow room for a beverage as if you've taken a step back in time. The dining room with its oversize table and antique furnishings looks like it would have in its prime, complete with a fireplace. Upstairs, the bedrooms hold antique beds and even have candles in the windows.
The home is like a living time capsule and, thanks to generous community support, is now available for rent for an overnight stay through Airbnb.
The owners of the home, the Sumner County Museum, received Historic Stonewall as a generous gift from Museum founder and lifelong Gallatin resident, John Garrott, in 2017. While the building and grounds have been used as an event venue since 2019, the Museum saw the importance of opening up the location for the entire community to take a step back in time and immerse themselves in history, even if just for the night.
History & Heart
With 5,600 sq. ft., four bedrooms, dining room, parlor, kitchen, living room, and even a beautiful outdoor area, the preserved home has ample space for you and your guests. The carpet was replaced this year with hardwood floors much like the original in the home. With two new HVAC units and added modern amenities, guests will be comfortable as they step back in time.
“We have a unique opportunity to do something wonderful for our community, city, and county, something that folks are going to want to be part of,” Ryan Baker, Executive Director of the Museum, said when discussing all of the properties that the museum oversees.
The Museum also owns The Shop behind Historic Stonewall (Sumner

County's original maintenance garage which was built in the 1920s); the Carriage House next to Stonewall (which is listed on the National Historic Register); and the Museum itself (located behind Trousdale Place about a half mile west). There are plans for all three buildings over the next nine years:
The Shop
Remodel this building and open Sumner County's first operating distillery since prohibition complete with on-site tasting room, exhibit on local rum running, and speakeasy.
Carriage House
Remodel this building to open an arts and cultural center, with event and office space for the community.
The Museum
Upgrade the 10,000 sq ft space with an audio tour, upgraded lighting, updated displays, interactive exhibits, and more.
These buildings are central to Gallatin, but more important, are central to Gallatin's history. By preserving the past, we open
doors for people to learn about and from that which came before. The vision is to bring these buildings and the treasures they hold back to life and open the doors for the community to enjoy.
As John Garrott said, “Preserving Sumner County’s history is important because it’s your history, it’s my history, it’s our history.”

Greeting the Future with Gusto
Sometimes it’s hard to wrap our heads around how different - and yet how similar - Gallatin is in 2022 to what it was 10, 15, 20 years ago. And while change is hard, the change that we are experiencing in Sumner County is unlike anything that has happened before! We are quite literally living history…and the perfect example of that is the new Music City Executive Airport XNX, once known as Sumner County Regional Airport M33.
We sat down with Jeff Dunham, airport manager, to talk about the future of our very own airport. And while we are happy to highlight our talk here, the one thing he said repeatedly, “I welcome anyone’s questions, concerns, comments…please stop by the airport and talk to me! I’d love to show you what we are doing and more importantly, why we are doing it.” So, please feel free to stop in and meet him.
In order to be completely transparent about the growth (and potential) of Music City Executive Airport, Dunham shared several key statistics with us which we share here. But suffice it to say, there are few businesses enjoying a 700% growth rate like our airport.
As a now 6,300 foot runway, Music City Executive Airport can welcome any size jet, and even has the capability to launch non stop flights to Europe. Executives with Beretta, InSteel and Publix utilize the airport frequently and it has become an enticing (and important) chip when courting new industry.
Dunham has also increased the connectedness between the airport and local educators. Now partnering with Liberty Creek High School to promote
aviation education, XNX has long provided a flight school and jet access to students of Liberty University. He hopes to continue partnering and growing those partnerships with local schools and programs.
There are great hopes for a new terminal, continued development and partnership with the airport and the Gallatin community. In fact, they intend to add 9 more corporate hangars to their existing 15 soon. And all of us can join in the fun any 2nd Saturday from April - September for a fly in celebrating and supporting our local chapter of EAA - Experimental Aircraft Association - chapter 1343.
Yes, growth is challenging but it is also exciting and new and really really good for Gallatin. We loved Sumner County Regional Airport and are thrilled to be home to Music City Executive Airport. §

Chloe Spears and Jacqui Long of Evergreen Salon Business in GallatinMeet Chloe Spears and Jacqui Long Evergreen Salon
Chloe and Jacqui, once stylist suitemates, opened Evergreen Salon in April 2021. Their charming and welcoming salon is located right on Gallatin’s historic square!
What began as a dream, then an idea and now a reality, Evergreen consists of 5 stylists whose main goal is to educate their clients, and provide an inviting, no pressure, peaceful experience. Evergreen has a very “Nashville” feel to it while also feeling like stepping into a neighbor’s living room for a cup of coffee.
As new business owners, Chloe and Jacqui have discovered first hand that owning a business takes a lot of hard work. However, they have loved their Gallatin Square location. “I was so surprised at the community support that the square has given us,” Chloe explains. Jacqui adds that their space makes her happy all the time.
Evergreen specializes in color - especially low maintenance color - cuts, and treatments. And, of course, they are also available for any “hair emergencies”. The next time you’re grabbing a burger or browsing an antique store on the square, stop in and meet the team at Evergreen Salon.

But it was through FFA (Future Farmers of America) that she discovered her passion and talent for floral design. FFA also gave her a sense of confidence and grit. That confidence buoyed Ivieann to create her own business. Today she not only has a thriving floral business but a brick and mortar spot and a restored trailer named Pearl.
Pearl, a refurbished horse trailer, can be rented for events and photo shoots. And is just one of the things that sets Ivieann’s business apart. It’s Ivieann’s goal to “bring something new to the table” and give her own unique brand of “Southern Class” to every design. Stop by her shop, introduce yourself, and see for yourself the beauty she’s bringing to Gallatin.
Ivieann not only has a thriving floral business but also a brick and mortar spot and a restored trailer named Pearl.
Meet Thomas Fralinger Thomas Jewelers
Unlike Evergreen and Branded Blossom, Thomas Jewelers isn’t a new business to Gallatin, but it is a uniquely Gallatin business. While most jewelry stores today specialize in retail and are simply stores, Thomas Fralinger is an actual jeweler. He creates custom designed art for his customers to wear and pass on for generations.
A native of Southern New Jersey, Fralinger bought his first store in 1994, and learned the jewelry business from some of the best in the business. He moved to Middle Tennessee in 2000 and brought with him his tools and bench. He worked repairing jewelry through the early 2000s until he opened his storefront in 2007.
Today, Thomas Jewelers is a retail store, but it is primarily an all custom design shop where Fralinger personally builds his designs from the ground up. From custom engagement rings, wedding bands to strings of pearls, Thomas Jewelers can create your perfect and unique piece of art. A piece of art that can only be designed and built in Gallatin, Tennessee! That is fabulous.
Meet Randy Nash Sumner Funeral & Cremation
Randy Nash first started working in the funeral business at the age 14. Today, he and his partner own 2 locations, one in Gallatin, the other in Hendersonville. As full service funeral homes, Sumner Funeral & Cremation takes pride in the care of the deceased.
Randy is a lifelong resident of Gallatin and is proud to call Sumner County his home, “This is where I’m from. I’ve lived in the county all of my life. I take pride in taking care of my community and it is an honor to take care of my friends and my friends’ families when they need it most.”
Both locations provide traditional funerals, cremations, church funerals, graveside services, caskets, vaults, urns, and monuments. The Hendersonville location also has a full chapel on site, but both locations offer continuous care to the deceased, the family, and those who come to pay their respects.
Nash bought the business at the beginning of the pandemic which ushered in its own challenges, but was able to weather the storm with the help of a committed and loyal staff, his faith and his family. His philosophy is simple: always do what’s right, always take care of people. §

This year, Gallatin welcomed several new companies and entrepreneurs. We are happy to highlight three of those companies who exemplify the diversity of our community and the gusto in which we have accepted them. From state of the art LED displays, to a new concept fitness facility to an employee owned construction company, these new businesses are thrilled to now call Gallatin home.

Gallatin Greets New Businesses with Gusto
Firefly LED
Undoubtedly, you’ve seen Firefly’s display screen at their location on our historic square. If you haven’t, drive or walk by, it’s incredibly cool!
Will Dickey and Don Gadd first considered Gallatin for its unique proximity between the two partners, but it was the support from the Mayor’s office, the Chamber, and the community that solidified their decision. According to Don, a seasoned businessman, already once retired, “It is a joy to do business in Gallatin. Our location on Gallatin’s town square provides a perfect setting to inspire creativity and welcome clients (most of whom are from out of town). In fact, this office space, will likely become the model of other branches around the country. If I could speak to businesses considering Gallatin, I would tell them that Gallatin wants them here!”
LED technology has been around for quite some time, but the LED display technology that Firefly utilizes is a relatively new industry. Firefly LED specializes in large format video displays created with thousands, even millions of LED diodes. Those diodes last over 100,000 hours before fading to half brightness - that’s 11 years worth of lighting in case you’d rather not do the math. The majority of Firefly’s clients consist of trade shows, higher education institutions, and houses of worship, but they can create almost anything!
Will Dickey began his foray into AV technology in his late teens, and is the first to say that LED technology is the future of display and video. At less than 20 years old, the LED diode technology is what computers were to the 1980s and what a thrill that Firefly is curating this technology right here in Gallatin.
Rosendin Electric, Inc.
Rosendin is a century old company originating in San Jose, California. It is unique in that it is a completely employee owned company with offices from California to DC. Rosendin first came to Middle Tennessee as a partner in a large scale project. “We came for a client, but decided to make our stay permanent due to the unprecedented opportunities here,” said Tullie Louder, Division Manager.
Rosendin is a construction company that specializes in electrical teams for every imaginable field - entertainment, transportation, pharmaceutical, healthcare, education, renewable energy and institutions of all sizes. They pride themselves on their people and developing their team of employees. With the core values - We share, We Care, We Listen - as their foundation, they have found an accepting and likeminded community in Middle Tennessee. Every employee goes through a personalized “skills” assessment and then is trained in skill craft to meet that person’s unique abilities and existing talents. To date, 70% of Rosendin’s Gallatin employees are local hires and they’ve only just begun. With a uniquely growth minded mindset, Rosendin is here to stay and looks forward to partnering with the businesses and people of Sumner County for years to come.
Fitness 1440
Thanks to the Peyton Family, Fitness 1440 has come to Gallatin. Located at 126 Goodview Way, this 24/7 fitness facility is centrally located in the Greenlea Blvd area. Fitness 1440 is a franchise that was started in Arizona and its name represents the 1440 minutes that each of us get in a day’s time. Understanding that everyone
is cramming life into those 1440 minutes, Fitness 1440 is a fitness center created to cater to real life and real people.
When Jennifer was looking for a franchise to bring with her to Gallatin, she knew that she needed to offer something other facilities didn’t and for her - a young mom - that was childcare. Fitness 1440 offers Zumba, HIT, Kickboxing, a full gym, sauna, tanning, massage bed, a smoothie bar that is open to the public and childcare! Every day. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Members consistently report that the staff is friendly and provide a very comfortable and welcoming environment. The Peytons are proud to offer special memberships for local first responders which is just part of their “family/community” driven philosophy. They are thrilled to be a part of the Gallatin community and fitness landscape and hope to serve and give back to the community that has already given them so much. §

While we are thrilled to welcome new businesses to Gallatin, the foundation of success has been poured by companies who have been here for many years. In this article, we celebrate a manufacturer, a local furniture store, and a oneof-a-kind firearm company.
Established Businesses
Tenacity + Commitment + Loyalty = Success
Gibson Furniture
It isn’t a leap to say that when you do something with gusto, you do it with energetic and enthusiastic enjoyment. Truer words have never been said when referring to one of the oldest retail businesses in Gallatin, Gibson Furniture. In fact, when asked what makes doing business in Gallatin so enjoyable, Eddie’s response was emphatic, “doing business in downtown Gallatin is an incredibly pleasant experience.”
Located in our historic downtown, Jim and Amelia Gibson opened the store in 1972.
Today, Eddie Gibson, who began working in the store in high school, runs the family business. Eddie, alongside his wife and daughter, proudly carry on their family legacy of putting customers first, providing a local retail option and being an integral part of the fabric of downtown Gallatin. Gibson Furniture specializes in middle to high end home furnishing, and offers free delivery within 100 miles of Gallatin.
It’s no secret that Gallatin is evolving before our eyes, and Eddie admits that of late, his challenges have been reacting
quickly to the changing consumer landscape and supply chain realities, but Gibson Furniture has faced those challenges head on and remains a Gallatin staple. From 1972 - 2022, for 50 years, Gibson Furniture has served Gallatin. There’s something to be said for standing the test of time and thriving while doing it! In a word - gusto!
Wil-Ro
Just off Old Highway 109 sits the Wil-Ro factory. Started in the early 70s by brothers, William and Roger Anderson, as a manufacturer of cattle trailers, Wil-Ro is now a booming Gallatin manufacturer of truck bodies.
Wil-Ro, now owned and operated by Joshua Coster, has continued the Andersons’ commitment to manufacturing the finest product available. Coster’s Wil-Ro focuses predominantly on truck bodies but with an eye toward the future. Recently, Wil-Ro launched a new line of “adventure trailers”, a one of a kind design and concept.
An idea that Coster couldn’t shake, the “adventure trailer” was designed several years ago, but just as Wil-Ro would try and move
forward, “God would give us more opportunities” placing it on the back burner. But with more opportunities come more possibilities and Coster’s team was finally able to bring their new design to life in 2022, with the launch of the TerraRover brand.
As they grow, “Wil-Ro remains deeply rooted in our commitment to craftsmanship, quality, and the role of human hands in every step of the process.” Today, Wil-Ro works with over 40 distributors around the U.S., sending Gallatin-made truck bodies (and now adventure trailers) all over the country.
Beretta
Not brand new to Gallatin, the Beretta manufacturing site in Gallatin, boasts to be the largest production facility of Beretta firearms outside of Italy.
Beretta - the 500 year old Italian manufacturer of firearms - made Gallatin home in 2016. Having first opened Beretta US in Maryland 30 years ago, Beretta decided to move its manufacturing side of the business south. Franco Beretta looked at options in Texas, Georgia, and Tennessee, but as soon as he came to Gallatin, he knew this was the home of Beretta. Today, Beretta Tennessee, operates as Beretta’s primary manufacturer in the US.
Beretta Gallatin employs 105 hourly employees and 80 salaried employees and works closely with local schools to develop new talent and opportunities. The plant, once under contract with the US military, produces the 90 series firearms, the 300 ultimate shotgun, and the compact tomkat and bobkat pistols. The firearms built at Beretta are considered works of art used for hunting and tactical competition and only built right here in Gallatin, TN. §

The Grittier, The Better!
Sometimes it feels like we are living in a perpetual construction zone in Sumner County but that means we are also experiencing unprecedented growth! It’s an exciting time to watch our area grow, but it doesn’t happen without the innovation and creativity of our “grittier” industrial business. Here we spotlight 3 of those Gallatin based businesses, Curtis Construction, GreenLid Design, and DPR Construction.
Meet Clay Curtis of Curtis Construction
Curtis Construction is a second generation company founded in 1990 by Clay’s dad, Charles. A truly Sumner
County business, Charles built his company from the ground up, the old fashioned way, through relationships.
A drive down Airport Road highlights Curtis Construction’s bread and butter buildings and design. They designed and built the original Servpro buildings, and went from there. Not just an industrial contractor, Curtis has built daycare centers, remodeled office spaces, and designed and built the Gallatin Public Library.
Curtis Construction specializes in site development, remodels, design, and industrial construction. But what sets it apart is Clay’s determination to do business like his dad did before him.
Clay says, ”Partner with people and approach each project as if it’s my own building and my money. I want my customers to know that when we take on a project, we are in that foxhole together.” Whether your project is big or small, Curtis Construction will be your partner every step of the way.
Meet Andy Leath of GreenLid Design
When Andy Leath graduated from Tennessee Tech with a degree as a Civil Engineer, he followed his dream and came home to start his own company - GreenLid Design. An engineering and surveying company, GreenLid opened
It’s an exciting time to watch our area grow, but it doesn’t happen without the innovation and creativity of our “grittier” industrial businesses.
its doors in 2017. Those first few years kept GreenLid in survival mode as they tried to stay on top of the demands of Sumner County’s construction blitz!
As a small business owner, Leath is able to give back to the community he’s called home his whole life. An active supporter (financially and in-kind) of Grace Place Ministry, local QB clubs and high schools, his most significant contribution is his annual academic scholarship awarded to graduates of Westmoreland High School. GreenLid awards $4,000 annually to Westmoreland students who are committed to returning home and creating positive change.
GreenLid specializes in helping industrial builders, contractors and individuals with navigating permits, zoning and surveying. “If a customer has a dream to build a business, a garage, a warehouse, we are here to help navigate the process.” Admittedly, that process can be arduous at best, don’t travel that road alone! GreenLid is here to help.
Meet Jeff Mason of DPR Construction
Jeff Mason came to Gallatin in 2020 in the height of the Pandemic. As the Private Executive for DPR, Jeff oversees the Gallatin Data Center project. Jeff’s day to day duties are to support the mechanism that is DPR Gallatin. According to Jeff, “I'm just the guy at the top of the food chain of a flat - and equal - organization.” But don’t be dismayed by his coyness, DPR has employed over 6,000 people in Gallatin since 2020 and today has over 1,200 employees on-site daily.
DPR, which stands for Doug, Peter and Ron, the company’s founders, started their general construction company in Napa, California. Their motto is, “We exist to build great things!” The data center project that they have undertaken here in Gallatin will be a multi-building data center campus and will encompass nearly 1 million square feet of data center and admin space. What’s more, the site will be supported by 100% renewable energy, use 80% less water than a typical data center, and LEED Gold certified by the U.S. Green Building Council.
When asked what working with the City of Gallatin has been like, Mason said, “I don’t want to sound Pollyanna, but working with the Building Department of Gallatin has been one of the easiest and most enjoyable experiences I have had.” Mason is known as a “traveler” meaning he’s the guy who travels to new communities for DPR’s projects so suffice to say, he’s had many experiences with new communities. And it looks like he’s here to stay for awhile - construction of the project won’t be complete until 2027. Not only is he actively involved in the day to day operations, he and his staff find time to give back to Gallatin. They have been very involved with the Shalom Zone, Habitat for Humanity and this year’s Toys for Tots program to name a few.
DPR’s core values are: uniqueness, enjoyment, and ever forward which makes them a perfect fit for Gallatin, a city, literally like none other, full of life and “On the Move!” §

Time to Party Holidays in
Gallatin
City streets festooned with decorations. Holiday movie classics playing at The Palace Theatre. Church bells ringing with Christmas carols. A nip in the air. It’s the holiday season, the most magical time of the year in Gallatin.

The third Saturday in November brings the Christmas Harvest Craft Show at the Gallatin Civic Center, a local tradition you don’t want to miss.
During the first week of December, children of all ages gather under the stars in the historic downtown square for the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. On the second Saturday in December, the Gallatin Christmas Parade takes over downtown Gallatin as Santa and other holiday favorites make an appearance on festive floats.
From late November through December, music lovers can take in the sounds of the season at one of the many holiday concerts held at the city’s schools and churches.

Gracious Hospitality Annual Events
Like all the best communities, Gallatin has traditions that the locals love, those highly anticipated things that happen year after year. And while the Gallatin Area Chamber certainly focuses on the success of the growing and dynamic business community, they spend an equal amount of time making sure Gallatin has a unique identity, a strong sense of place, and is a community visitors desire to re-visit and residents love to call home. Here’s a quick look at some of the city’s most beloved traditions, organized and produced by the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce.
Gallatin Christmas Parade
Each December, locals and visitors line the streets in and around downtown Gallatin to watch this massive parade wind its way from Sumner Regional Medical Center to Gallatin High School. 100+ entries including floats, classic cars, and marching bands show off their creativity to help usher in the holiday season…and Santa himself!
Holiday Tinsel and Treasures
For more than 50 years, shoppers have been planning their holiday travel schedules around this city-wide retail open house. This event features three full days of shopping at 30+ local retailers offering sales, specials, and seasonal delights like music, tasty treats, and fully-decked halls.
Gallatin Shamrock Run 5k/10k
Participants spend months preparing their St. Patrick's Day-themed costumes for this 5k and 10k walk/run. It’s all for a good cause; the event benefits the Gallatin Chamber Foundation and takes runners on a scenic tour of Gallatin’s historic district.
Gusto Gala
The Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce Gusto Gala, transforming a hangar at Music City Airport into a swanky event space for Gallatin’s signature black tie event, celebrates enhancement and innovation in Gallatin, TN, all while benefiting the Gallatin Chamber Foundation. Bust out your ball gown and plan to dance the night away!
Grit Grace Grub
If food is your fancy, you’ll enjoy this opportunity to take a tour through town to experience a true taste of Gallatin's dynamic dining scene, featuring local eateries, caterers, breweries and more.
Farm to Table Dinner
Food and beverage tastings, agriculture-related educational exhibits, live music, and a four-course dinner made with food and other ingredients sourced from and/or produced by local farms come together in Gallatin’s Historic Downtown Square to create an unforgettable al fresco dining experience.
Sumner County Veterans Rally + 5k
This event includes a 5k through Gallatin’s Triple Creek Park. It features live music, food trucks, businesses, and celebrations. The event is designed to help former members of our nation’s military forge deeper connections in the community, while helping to bring awareness to and offering connections with our local veteran organizations, veteran-owned businesses, and other veteran benefits.
Gallatin Gobble
The Gallatin Gobble Turkey Shoot is your chance to enjoy the great outdoors on a Tennessee fall day. Presented by local firearm manufacturer, Beretta, attendees shoot paper targets and compete for an opportunity to win bragging rights along with a variety of outdoor and hunting apparel.
Keep Up with the Happenings!
But that's not all! With more than 200+ events self or co-produced by the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce, there's something almost weekly to fill your time. There are a variety of ways to be involved with each, from volunteering, partnership, sponsorship, or simply just attending to enjoy, view, and/or cheer on participants. View the Chamber's full calendar at www.gallatintn.org or flip back to page 84 to view 2023 dates and scan QR codes to help you learn more.
2022 GUSTO GALA
Each October, Gallatin community members gather together to celebrate innovation and enhancement in the Gallatin area at the city's signature black tie event. In 2022, the event took place in the brand new Jet Access airport hangar at Music City Executive Airport and included the announcement of the Chamber's new space. Benefitting the Chamber Foundation, the annual Gusto Gala offers opportunity for those in attendance to dress to the nines, enjoy one of Gallatin's drool-worthy caterers, classic cocktails, and dance the night away just steps from the airport runway - all while bringing attention to ideas and initiatives that spark creativity in our community.
In the world of economic development, recruiting new companies to Gallatin is not just about job numbers and capital expenditure – it is about what that company will bring to our community. Will it be a good community partner for Gallatin? What is the corporate culture? Does the company commit to giving back?
Give & Grow with GUSTO
Gallatin is fortunate that most of the manufacturers and distributors here believe in supporting the community. They encourage employees to give back and those employees generally give with gusto.
Two of our long-term corporate partners – Gap Inc. and Wil-Ro – are companies that consistently donate time and funds to Gallatin’s local non-profits. Gap Inc. contributes to learning programs as well as donating goods. Veteran-owned WilRo gives its employees paid time off for volunteer work. Three of our newer corporate partners – Meta, DPR, and Rosendin – quickly adopted local nonprofits for service days and grant awards. During the first months of the pandemic, we had several companies – RCTenn (now StanleyBlack&Decker), Arcosa, and Carrington Specialty Products – literally switch gears to produce and donate protective equipment to emergency responders in Sumner County.
There are numerous examples where our manufacturing community, from our oldest companies to our newest, truly embraces the volunteer spirit of the Volunteer State. They also exhibit the mantras of “True Grit. Amazing Grace” which are sewn into the fiber of Gallatin. Beretta USA, the oldest
company in the world at 496 years, moved to Gallatin, a 221-year-old city, in 2016 and has become a partner in melding tradition with modern day.
We have other companies that go for the gusto, too. They may have a lower profile, but they are impactful. Axem Distributing Inc. in our Industrial center pushes the
envelope to create good-paying, hightech jobs. Their progressive approach has resulted in doubling their footprint with a new facility to come online in 2023. CDF Distributors in the Gallatin train depot embraced technology and expanded its production facility, adding jobs and significantly increasing revenue. DFM Arms opened last fall in Gallatin on
Airport Road with their vigorous approach to delivering fully developed, timely solutions with speed.
Common characteristics among these companies in Gallatin are enthusiasm, passion, and appreciation. That is what the Gallatin Economic Development Agency (GEDA) looks for when recruiting new companies. Do they have that drive to move beyond the status quo? Do they provide good-paying jobs? Do they have a strong corporate culture of being part of their community?
Those questions are imperatives as we vet prospects for Gallatin. Completion of Albert Gallatin Avenue with an elevated interchange at SR 109 opened 100 acres for a planned business park under development by Harrod Properties. Our mission is to fill that park with good corporate citizens who are just as fervent about Gallatin as we are.
We want companies to embrace Gallatin and partner in our success. It is all about the gusto – the zeal, the diligence, the gumption. Gallatin gets it. If your business has it, then welcome to Gallatin. §

The Station
Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce Announces New Location and $100,000 Grant from Meta
It’s no secret that Gallatin’s got gusto – from the people to the Chamber to the community partners. That was all put on show at the Chamber’s inaugural Gusto Gala where the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce announced that the Chamber will relocate to a new location that will enable the organization to significantly expand its capabilities and further support businesses in the region. Meta, a Premier Partner with the Chamber and presenting sponsor for the event, revealed that they are also contributing to the Chamber’s new endeavor with a $100,000 leadership gift to the Chamber Foundation.
The new space, which will be appropriately named “The Station,” celebrates Gallatin’s rich past. Beginning in 1929, an electric streetcar connected Gallatin to downtown Nashville along what was known as the Bluegrass Line. This new office location will be where that once turned around – using a wye - at 117 West Main Street.
The Station will allow the Chamber to be a hub for all business needs within the Gallatin area, fulfilling
the vision to be the primary resource for business over the next 100 years and beyond. The collaborative efforts that will be created within the space will help the Chamber continue to be the catalyst for community development.
“This is a thrilling and crucial time for the Gallatin Area Chamber as we continue to grow, evolve, and enhance our impact in the Gallatin and Sumner County area,” said Kim Baker, Chamber President and CEO. “For more than 100 years, we have been a leading voice for the local business community. The expansion of our space feels like the natural next step - a way for us to amplify our reach, perpetuate the mission that we live by, and ultimately serve our members in better, bigger, and more meaningful ways.”
“Since breaking ground on our Gallatin Data Center in 2020, Meta has proudly invested in local nonprofits to support the longterm vitality of this community and its residents,” said Tara Tenorio, community development manager at Meta. “The future is bright for Sumner County and we’re excited to play a part in this new initiative with the Chamber.”
About the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce
The Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce fosters economic vitality and enhances the quality of life in Gallatin through supporting our members, providing educational opportunities, and engaging the community.
The Chamber has been in operation since 1921 and has been located at their 118 West Main Street location in Gallatin, TN since 1989. Through the years, the Gallatin Chamber has played a critical role in the growth, development, and prosperity of the region. With over 700 members, the Gallatin Chamber continues to grow while serving as the primary resource for business success, the catalyst for community development, and the convener of leaders and influencers. §
The goal is to bring The Station to life and be fully operational by the second quarter of 2024.
Clay Haynes, owner of Public Square, a boutique real estate development firm, and the new location said, “The Chamber of Commerce is the nucleus of our business community here in Gallatin. It is a profound honor for Public Square to partner with the Chamber on this fantastic opportunity. The Chamber's commitment to our historic downtown is nothing short of transformative. As a sign of our ongoing support of their vision, I have personally committed $50,000 to the Chamber Foundation to ensure the long-term vitality of our business community for decades to come.“
“The opportunity to collaborate with Public Square in this effort is something I’m very much looking forward to for the future of the Chamber and Gallatin as a whole,” said Justin Hays, Gallatin Chamber Board Chairman.
