Daniil Volkov “Impressions”
“ Impr ession s ” Daniil Volkov has a natural love of impressionism. After years of being an accomplished realist, Volkov became fascinated with the light and saturated colors he observed in Nature. To him, “impressionists have reached the highest expression of art.” Not that long ago, the master palette knife painter began furiously attacking impressionism with a new zeal. While beauty is all around, he believes it is not always easy to find. An impressionist strives to decode this beauty, breaking Nature into a graphic quality of saturated colors, light and textures through increased perception. Volkov says, “If you want to grasp the state of Nature, you need to be fast and mobile. You go, see, and behold in less than a minute as you are already working. The state of Nature is subject to change at an astonishing rate, and the artist must be ready, both morally and technically.” It is not uncommon for him to paint multiple small works in one sitting before Nature changes. He believes his small works “get through to the core” of his inspiration.
