Sergei Skripitsyn (b. 1986) brings such strength and confidence of vision to the canvas that the concept of “old soul” seems fitting. In fact, when looking at him standing in the front yard of his Kiev studio, the only thing that looks like it might be from the current time are the clothes he is wearing. Inside his studio, there are just too many daring, emotive works scattered about for an artist of his age-large, thickly-textured genre scenes, impressionist fragments and figurative paintings where the paint seems to dance and reach for you. While youthful talent is not a new concept to Gallery Russia, we never tire of it. In our estimation, Skripitsyn is light years ahead of most, and the future is spooky good! He was born in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine where he attended his first art school and entered the Kiev Academy of Arts in 2006. He graduated in 2011 from Nikolai Storozhenko’s Studio of Monumental Painting with the highest possible marks. He is now pursuing graduate studies at the Academy. He participated in numerous exhibitions for the students of the Kiev Academy of Arts as well as in the “All-Ukraine Plein-Air Workshop” in Sevastopol in September, 2011. Enjoy!
