SPENCER H SIMMONS “Floraburbia” 2021
“Floraburbia”
Drawing and painting as a means to enjoy and understand the world around me, has always been at the core of my life’s ethos. To date, I have had the fortune of travel, but with the pandemic shutting down the world and taking so much from so many, it’s shifted my focus from far off lands to the wonderful corners in my own backyard. From the pool I learned to swim in, to a wall I frequented for passage to the roof, or the bougainvillea that always managed to draw blood from many a passerby. These pictures have given me time to meditate on my childhood, my world, and the passing of time. A subject still full of wonder and intrigue, with meanings not yet fully discovered. – Spencer H.
