Resolute 2022 - 2023

This exhibition has taken a while to put together. Beyond the normal issues of which artist has what or not, the crisis in Ukraine has certainly been a heavy load to deal with for all. Our clients have been graciously concerned and Therecaring.arepaintings

in this catalog that were lucky to see the light of day as they were left in studios in a frenzy. There are artists in this catalog who either fled their homes to safer parts or remained in the basements of their apartment buildings for weeks at a time while bombs and artillery shells fell. What became evident was the over powering resolve these artists had to adapt and to keep doing the thing their soul craved—paint. And so, weeks or months later, paintings started to show up in our gallery again. I can only imagine how these artists managed to make it across war-torn cities to their studios let alone to ship the paintings they retrieved or how museum staff caringly documented each work for export even though the museum was often closed.

Of course, there were no guarantees of success. Paintings were often held in Europe for months or errantly delivered to businesses in the wrong state (thank you to the post office in Hapesville, GA for helping us out!) Artists often drove paintings across international borders to ship or personal friends lugged works through international airports to hand deliver them to the gallery. Four master works by one of our artists were forever “misplaced” in US Customs in New York. So, like I said, it took a while! But here we are…

While many of our artists are from the US, Canada and Western Europe, the works of all of our artists come together in this exhibition to present a soul-enriching, unified statement of beauty. The spirit of the artist won this time. There are still lots of good things in this world!

I hope you enjoy looking at this catalog as much as I did putting it together!
