www.gallerytop.co.uk Andrew Macara studied contemporary modern British Art for a short period with Leonard Fuller at the St Ives School of Painting amongst the Cornwall Art Galleries but considers himself to be predominantly a self taught artist. Andrew has one of the most distinctive styles of present day contemporary British Artists, the bold immediacy of his paintings masking the skills of composition and colour, These qualities are imbued in his work, demonstrating an acquired confidence in his approach and execution. He is now established as a very collectible contemporary figurative artist and over the years his paintings have proved to be a good British Art Investment. He travels extensively gathering images for paintings from around the world, but his native Derbyshire continues to feature in many paintings – particularly the Winter scenes. Other subjects with strong demand are Andrew’s British seaside paintings. Andrew Macara was born in Derbyshire in 1944 and today he is one of the most collectible British artists. He has one of the most distinctive styles of present day contemporary British Artists and has enjoyed considerable success with his original paintings He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1981. This was followed by his election to the New English Art Club in 1984. His paintings regularly feature at the Royal British Artists (RBA) London art exhibitions as well as the Royal Academy of Art in their Summer Exhibitions. Andrew has undertaken commissions for public and private collectors including a series of contemporary paintings for Sir Anthony and Lady Bamford, the Scott Bader Company, the new parliamentary building and the Westminster and Hilton hotel group for their corporate headquarters. This exhibition has a balance of winter and summer subjects, offering the best of both worlds!

www.gallerytop.co.uk The Winter Paintings Andrew Macara’s winter paintings are immediately recognizable and demonstrate his characteristic treatment of light. The economy of his palette in these paintings is emphasized by tension points of colour provided by the figures. He captures a world of activity in which the viewer gets a sense not only of scale and movement, but almost of the temperature itself. There is a video on his website of him painting in the snow, which gives a sense of the challenging conditions from where these paintings emerge. The Summer Paintings Andrew’s sparkling effervescent images of summer transport the viewer to the sand and sun of iconic holiday locations – from Wales and Cornwall to the heat of the Mediterranean. He has an unerring eye and an ability to capture the essence of a place – the chaotic effusiveness of the summer contrasting starkly against the chill, but equally intoxicating, winters. His use of colour is uncompromising – immediate, economical and with an eye for composition – dynamic activity in an enduring landscape or environment. Although he has painted many different subjects over the years, the subject is always incidental to light.
