Welcome to The Galloway School! On the 8.2 acres we call home, in the heart of Chastain Park, extraordinary learning happens each and every day. When Elliott Galloway opened the school in 1969, his bold vision created a vibrant learning community unique to the metro-Atlanta area. That is still true today. It is our hope that you leave today’s event with an understanding of who we are as a community of learners and having experienced first-hand the excitement for learning that we all share. When you step into a classroom here at The Galloway School, you will sense that learning is a process, and students are at the heart of it. This student-centered education creates young people who are able to think critically, who understand their place in the world, and who have the skills to succeed in life beyond Galloway. It is through the extraordinary relationships between students and their teachers that the love for learning is cultivated here. This is a school for students and families who believe in the importance of a strong student-teacher relationship. We encourage students to set and achieve goals based on the drive for excellence rather than on competition with others, and we all work in unity to help them achieve their potential. Teaching and learning at Galloway is a journey of Deliberate, Daring, and Dynamic Discovery. We refer to this instructional delivery framework as 4D Learning. During the course of your visit today, we hope to give you a taste of that special learning experience and whet your appetite to learn more. Thank you for taking the time to be here today. We invite you to be an active participant and to enjoy an afternoon of discovery.

Suzanna Jemsby Head of School

I am Galloway From the heart and head of a naval officer and Baptist minister A passionate connection to John Dewey and the Chicago Lab School From empowering even the youngest students to be curious, ask questions, persevere. To follow one’s passions. I am Galloway. Sitting comfortably, connected, while trying on experiences, learning acceptance, and being challenged to think. From fresh air experiences, active engagement, where trust and courage grow. I am Galloway. My friends are with me. Best friends to this day. My teachers are with me, staying in touch long after high school. My classmates are with me, achieving, no surprise - Most of them are wickedly smart. Making a difference, We are bonded for life. Focused on deep learning Need to know why Details and big picture, other points of view. To understand is to learn Learning to understand. I am confident, compassionate, and forming my own opinions. I am a thinker, a doer, a starter, a scholar, an artist, an athlete An expert problem solver. I am Galloway. Galloway teaches students to be kind and try. New things, new ideas To work hard, to dream, to engage, to do our part For others. We are Galloway. Written by Polly Williams, EL principal, with her sons Gus Williams ’13 and Grant Williams ’15
