Where learning is joyful individuals are valued & self-discovery is encouraged

High expectations. Low anxiety.

Galloway students confidently embrace challenges while developing the knowledge, skills, and cultural competence to thrive as enlightened contributors in their chosen pathways.

For over 50 years, we’ve been a front runner in educational thought and practice. We are guided by the belief that learning should be engaging and empowering; our students are challenged and enriched

With an average class size of 15 and a student-teacher ratio of 8:1, we have intentionally designed deep learning where students wrestle with real-world problems. This approach garners engagement while fostering creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and challenge.

Early Learning Grades PK-4

Capitalizing on meaningful relationships between teachers and students, Galloway’s Early Learning experience provides a strong foundation through challenging academics and classrooms designed to foster critical thinking, curiosity, and a sense of belonging. By focusing on learning through play and valuing the process as well as the product, our students are encouraged to try new things, innovate, and collaborate. This gives them the confidence to embrace new challenges with fearlessness. We do all of this because we believe in the unrepeatable talents of each of our students. Early Learning prioritizes academics in tandem with socialemotional learning, providing each child with a sense of agency while nourishing their natural curiosity. Each child’s skill development is assessed through a variety of ageappropriate methods including written expression, art, digital media, or 3D models, allowing these differentiated modalities to uniquely showcase students’ knowledge and talents.

PASSION PROJECTS

Students in 1st -4th grade work on Passion Projects throughout the school year. Each student (or group of students) chooses to research something about which they are passionate outside of their daily curriculum. They explore and experiment, creating an end product that they then share with their classmates. Past Passion Projects have included making short films, creating 3D puzzles, working on time capsules, and baking tasty concoctions!

Middle Learning Grades 5–8

MAKER STUDIO

Our Maker Studio program invites students to design their own process of creating. Students take things apart and put them back together to build prototypes of possible solutions. Children are motivated to think of technology as a tool to explore their ideas and the world around them. Through coding, robotics, programming, and circuitry, students become comfortable with risktaking in the design-thinking process.

Our Middle Learning program encourages more talking, sharing, and questioning. By fostering an educational community in which kids feel safe to self-advocate in both academic and social settings, students know they are in an environment that cares and looks out for them and also values mistakes. With multiple teachers and classes, students experience increased opportunities and responsibilities while learning valuable time management and study skills to help them navigate this new environment.

Our Middle Learning curriculum focuses on the process rather than the product, using class-appropriate rubrics as an assessment tool. As a result, our students know exactly where they excel and where there is room for improvement on every exam, project, and presentation. No two classrooms are the same; students may be working together while researching animal habitats for their class pet or creating large format paintings in the theatre tech shop for their history class.

CLUBS AND CULTURE

ML students can join over 20 clubs, ranging from Mindfulness Club and Student Council to Debate Team and Karaoke Club. Students also have the opportunity to start their own club; all you need is a few friends and faculty sponsor!

ENRICHMENT AND ELECTIVES

Beginning in seventh grade, students also have more options for core and enrichment classes. They may choose from over 40 elective classes, ranging from sustainability to visual activism.

“The values of Galloway and the community match our own. It has become a second home to our family. We

wanted a school where we knew our children would be supported and nurtured while receiving a superior education.”

Upper Learning Grades 9–12

Galloway’s Upper Learning program ensures that our students are exceedingly prepared to take on an ever-changing and complex world through forming meaningful relationships with their teachers and peers. These relationships are central to our work and help create a culture of trust where we encourage individuality and support self-advocacy

Each classroom is set up differently based on the day’s lesson/activity. There may be a round-table discussion in an English class, independent project work in a world history class, or a lecture-style presentation in a political science class. Our Upper Learning curriculum offers 16 different AP courses and over 50 electives ranging from marine biology to engineering & design technology.

STUDENT LIFE

An essential part of Student Life is creating intentional programming and opportunities for cross-grade interaction to ensure that Galloway is an amazing place to be a student throughout your entire time in Upper Learning.

Our UL students have access to over 40 student-led clubs, ranging from Minority Empowerment Forum and Investment Club to Culinary Club and Ping Pong Club. Want to join a club but don’t see one you’re passionate about? Start your own! All you need is another friend and a faculty sponsor. Additionally, students run the show at our weekly all-UL Town Halls, sharing announcements, creating and editing content for their peers, and managing the lighting and sound production at each meeting.

GLOBAL ONLINE ACADEMY

As a community committed to preparing students to live successfully as enlightened citizens in a changing world, Galloway is proud to be a member of Global Online Academy, whose programs offer our students a way to pursue their passions, learn with peers from around the globe, and acquire and practice modern learning skills that will serve them well in college, career, and life. Our partnership with Global Online Academy allows students to choose from over 40 online courses in niche subjects such as Japanese Language Through Culture and Medical Problem Solving.

Experiential Learning

Some of the deepest learning in life happens outside of our daily routines and familiar surroundings

Galloway provides a wide variety of opportunities that expand student learning beyond the walls of the classroom with off-campus and international field trips, outdoor education leadership adventures, and service-learning experiences in the local community.

All three levels of the school suspend their regular schedule for 1-2 weeks to offer students the opportunity to take a deep dive into a single topic of study. These immersive opportunities cover a wide range of topics with an emphasis on experimentation, collaboration, and creativity

THE HAPPENING Each year, every student in Early Learning participates in The Happening, a weeklong in-depth study of one particular theme. Students learn from field experts and venture off-campus for experiential trips. This enhances students’ global understanding, develops problemsolving skills, and allows them to apply knowledge through project-based learning

IMMERSION This is a weeklong deepdive centered around grade-specific themes that shape students’ experiences throughout the year. Students connect with members of the greater Atlanta community, attend a variety of field trips, and work together to research real-world issues and create solutions

“Our students learn more than just core academic subjects; they learn about themselves, who they are, and what role they want to play in making our world a better place.”

EXCURSION All Upper Learning students participate in Excursion—a twoweek, credit-bearing immersive learning experience that takes place both domestically and internationally. Traditional classes are put on pause, and students and teachers across grade levels and disciplines join together as they gather information, travel to new places, discuss issues, produce artifacts, and generally make the world their classroom.

“Participating in the arts at Galloway encouraged me to come out of my shell. The theatre company gave me a community of friends who make each day better than the last.”

Arts

The arts at Galloway are grounded in the educational philosophy of the school. We offer experiences in dance, theatre, technical theatre, and visual arts that kindle self-awareness, intellectual curiosity, and creative expression. Our gifted faculty of teaching artists highly value the creative process and believe in nurturing individual expression while creating connections across disciplines, so the arts are integrated into the curriculum at every level.

We regularly celebrate student work at every level with gallery showings, concerts, and performances. Opportunities abound for Middle and Upper Learning students who wish to explore these art forms on a deeper level, and participation in performances is open to all students.

Athletics

Our athletics program includes offerings from Pre-K all the way through 12th grade, and over 75% of Galloway students participate in athletics. Galloway has over 20 acres of athletics complexes for our student-athletes to train and compete.

Beginning in sixth grade, student-athletes can participate in competitive sports in the fall, winter and spring seasons. With over 40 competitive teams in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, track & field, and volleyball, there are amazing opportunities for our student-athletes to earn state championships, understand the importance of integrity and sportsmanship, and be part of a team!

“I love the exciting atmosphere at Galloway games, and my coach brings a lot of energy and experience to every single game and practice. My teammates help inspire me to be my best on and off the court.”

–GALLOWAY STUDENT

On the eight acres in the heart of Chastain Park that Galloway calls home, extraordinary learning happens each and every day.

Galloway graduates are mature and confident individuals who can think critically, who recognize their role in the world, and who have the skills to succeed in life beyond our walls.

When you step into our classrooms, you will sense that learning is a process, and our students are at the heart of it.

Teaching and learning here at Galloway is a shared journey that is both intentional and relevant, fundamental hallmarks of a Galloway education. Teachers and students are partners in learning, and the exceptional relationships that grow as a result are key to helping students learn how to learn and to discover more about themselves and the world around them.

I look forward to sharing with you the vision of our school and our commitment to delivering a transformative educational experience for each Galloway student.

Community

Since Galloway’s founding in 1969, our school leadership has deliberately created an inclusive community. With families representing over 65 zip codes, we are committed to making Galloway economically, socially, religiously, and racially diverse.

Parent organizations like Families of Color United for Success (FoCUS) and Aspiring AntiRacists (AAR) work together to ensure that all families feel a sense of belonging, whether they have been at Galloway for a year or for a decade.

Galloway also has over 2,000 parent volunteer opportunities, providing numerous ways to connect with other families through parent education sessions, book clubs, classroom volunteering, events, and more.

“Every day at Galloway our children are seen and known; respected and appreciated. The support of this community is a gift. I know when they go out and into the world they’ll build communities around them because of the values they’ve learned here.” –PARENT
