OHV Park

By Matthew Goodenough

The OHV Park is a 500+ acre complex that is located on Hassler Valley Rd, two miles from Exit 22 off I-40. The OHV park has a 1.2-mile motocross track, as well as, 100+ miles of trails to ride where you’ll find wonderful viewpoints of the city and the hogback ridges. The park also has a kids’ track, so the little ones can have some fun. The Gallup OHV Park is the best place in the Four Corners area to ride dirt bikes, ATVs, and UTVs on off-road trails or riding on the motocross track. The trails are open to dirt bike riders, ATV riders or UTV riders. The motocross track, on the other hand, is open only to the dirt bike and ATV riders and requires a membership in order to gain access to the track. The little kids’ track is free to everyone and is a good place to teach your children how to ride and practice on their ATV or dirt bike.

The people who run the park are amazing and knowledgeable. The head honcho of the OHV Park is Greg Kirk. Greg is a very kind and passionate man, who is funny, hardworking, and is one of the coolest guys you can meet. But the OHV Park doesn’t just run by one man; it also has the Red Rock Motorsports crew who are fabulous people and are hardworking, kind, and passionate just like the head honcho himself. Oh, Greg is also a part of the crew too. The Red Rock Motorsports crew gets the motocross track ready for races by prepping

the track. This includes watering the track, fixing jumps, groove the dirt, and make sure the track is safe for the racers. They also prep the trails during the desert race series by marking the trails, so riders don’t get lost or end up in a ditch. We’re extremely grateful for all the trail maintenance and repairs the crew does to ensure the fun and safety of all riders; especially for desert racing. The most well-known desert race is the Red Rock 100, which is a 100-mile desert race for dirt bikes, ATVs and UTVs. Therefore, Greg Kirk and his crew are an excellent, hardworking crew who are amazing at what they do. The OHV Park wouldn’t be the same without them!

I have been riding dirt bikes for 11 years, and the OHV Park is the place where I go to compete in both motocross and desert competitions, as well as practice my skills on the track and the 100+ miles of trails. The motocross track is super fun with many jumps that send you flying sky high. It also has a unique design which makes our track stand out to the local riders or those who come and visit the track. Whenever there is a motocross race, the track is always prepped phenomenally and is certain to be safe and fun for the racers. The Red Rock Motorsports crew does a wonderful job. The 100+ miles of trails are the best because it seems like they never end, and you discover new trails every time you go out and ride. They also have the most magnificent views that I’ve ever seen - they take your breath away. The trails are marked perfectly and keep you out of the hands of danger. They are also safe to ride. Should a trail become unsafe, it is blocked and marked for repair. For that, I’d like to thank the Red Rock Motorsports crew once again for their diligence.

The kids’ track is an awesome place to learn. When I was learning how to ride, that’s where I practiced, and I still ride it to this day. It is overall a fun little track and is a good place to learn if you are just starting out.

I am so thankful to have a place close by to ride my dirt bike with family and friends. I am thankful for Greg and the Red Rock Motorsports crew for making and maintaining the track and allowing access to the 100+ miles of trails. They are the absolute best, and I thank them and appreciate them so much. So, get off the couch, go buy a dirt bike, or ATV, or UTV, get outside and ride at the OHV Park, and support your fellow riders and the Red Rock Motorsports crew!
