“Iloveputtingfabricandtrimstogether,”she says.“Drapesaddsuchawonderfulelementtoa space.Itgivesyouanopportunitytoaddpattern, textureandcolorandreallycompletestheroom.”
McPhersonisfollowinginhermother’sfootstepsasaninteriordesigner,eventhoughshe wentdownafewcareerpathsbeforelaunching herowncompanyin2020inNewOrleans.
McPhersongrewupinSt CharlesParish andstudiedatNewYorkInstituteofArtand Design Shepreviouslyownedanantiquestore, Pheasant’sNest,inMendenhall,Mississippi.The antiquemallandinteriordecorstoreaccommodatedseveralvendors,includingonewho importsFrenchantiques
“WhenIwasthere,Ididcustomdraperiesina localworkroomandsourcedcompaniestopurchasespecialtyfabricfrom,”shesays.
McPhersoncontinuestousehercontactsand resourcesacrosstheU.S.andabroadtosource furnishingsforclientsandprovidethemwith exclusivecustomfabrics.
“Welookatsamplesandthenfindresourcesto createit.Someofmyclientshaveanupholsterer thattheyliketouse,andtheyjustneedthefab-
ric.Someneeditemsupholsteredaswell Ihaveresources forallofthose,”McPhersonsays.“Ihandletheordering andcanhavelargeitemsdrop-shippedtosomeone’s home,whetherit’ssofas,tablesorchandeliers.”
She’sworkedonhomeprojectsinavarietyofsizesand budgets fromasmall,underusedspaceinahometoa fullhouseremodelwithcustomfurniture.
“Foroneclient,westartedonakitchenremodeland workedourwaythroughthehouse,”McPhersonsays “We didaliveedgecypressbar,anditturnedoutbeautifully.”
Someofherclientsareseekingdesignadviceonsourcingapieceortwo,whileothersarelookingtoreuseor repurposeanheirloom.ButMcPhersonsaysherfavorite projectsarewhenclients,“turnherloose,”allowingherto overhaulroomscompletely,creatingone-of-a-kindfabrics anddrapes.
Shesaysclientsfindherthroughreferralsandthrough herprofileonthehomedesignwebsiteHouzz.
“Attheendoftheday,clientshavetolovethatspace, andthere’salwayswaystoincorporatethingsthatyoulove inyourspace,”shesays
McPherson’ssignatureisworkingwithandincorporating wood,addingrichnessandhistoryto“ground”aspace, shesays
“Iliketostartwithsomeagedwoodelement,likethe floors,maybeanagedherringbonepatternwoodfloor, andthenIcomeinwithsomesilkdrapesandchandeliers anditmakeseverythinglookssoelegant,”shesays “Hip Relicsstandsforafun,carefreedesignwitholdandnew mixed.Ireallyhavealoveforit,andpeoplehavetoldme thatIhaveagreateyeforit.”
