Ispeed, thrills and hourly capacity, but it undoubtedly boasts a number of great qualities that have already seen it been chosen by many parks and FECs around the world. The ride we’re speaking about is Cloud Coaster, made by US company Extreme Engineering, a product that can perhaps be best defined as a ‘glider’, a hybrid between roller coaster and zip line. Combining elements of both attractions - height, being suspended in the air, a track with turns and hills - Cloud Coaster offers a soaring experience which features family fun, excitement and panoramic views.

Certo non può competere con i classici roller coaster per alta velocità, brividi e capacità oraria, ma vanta comunque indubbiamente delle grandi qualità che per questo lo hanno fatto scegliere già da parecchi parchi e Fec nel mondo. Parliamo di Cloud Coaster della statunitense Extreme Engineering, un prodotto per il quale la definizione più appropriata è probabilmente quella di 'glider', essendo un ibrido di roller coaster e zip line. Combinando elementi dell’una e dell’altra attrazione – l’altezza, l’essere sospesi in aria, un percorso con curve e saliscendi - Cloud Coaster propone un’esperienza ‘di sorvolo’ in coaster che è assolutamente per tutta la famiglia e piena di emozioni. Abbordabile, modulabile e assolutamente personalizzabile, Cloud Coaster può essere progettato in modo da adattarsi a qualsiasi spazio, sia esso indoor od outdoor. Affordable, scalable and fully customisable, the Cloud Coaster can be designed to fit any space, indoors or outdoors. The ride works well as a stand-alone attraction where it is the centre of the action. But it also shines when it works around other attractions, even soaring through them. This is in fact the case with Télégraphe, the over 120m-long Cloud Coaster installed at Méga Parc in Quebec, Canada’s second largest indoor theme park, opened in 2018. Here this little engineering marvel, located 12m above the ground, has a track that even passes through a spokeless Ferris wheel and is free floating without coaster columns, mounted within the building’s existing structure. The riders - who can also be children at least 101cm tall - are seated individually in carts attached underneath the rails, which move at a top speed of 48km/h. These are equipped with a passive magnetic braking system requiring no power or friction, handlebars for rider’s comfort and an electric locking lap bar. Also included on each cart is an adjustable dampening system, allowing the operator to control the swaying motion of the fly. “Depending of the application needs of our clients, the Cloud Coaster can adapt to the park experience, type of attraction and budget,” says Phil Wilson, Executive Vice President, Extreme Engineering. At the Vinpearl Land theme park in Phu Quoc, Vietnam, also known by locals as VinWonders Phu Quoc, the US company installed its largest outdoor Cloud Coaster project in Asia this year, with a track length around 122m. The attraction, which had to fit in a very tight space, minimizing the impact on real estate of the park, immerses guests through a dense, tropical jungle. Qui questa piccola meraviglia ingegneristica, posta a 12m da terra, ha un percorso che passa addirittura attraverso una ruota panoramica ed è come sospeso, non avendo colonne perché montato sulla preesistente struttura dell’edificio. I rider – che possono essere anche bambini a partire da 101cm di statura - sono seduti in vetture monoposto attaccate sotto le rotaie che si muovono toccando un massimo di 48km/h. Sono dotate di freni magnetici di tipo passivo che non necessitano di energia né di frizioni, maniglie laterali per il confort del passeggero e una barra addominale a chiusura elettrica. In ogni vettura c’è inoltre un sistema regolabile dall’operatore per ridurre l’oscillazione delle sedute durante la corsa. “A seconda del tipo di uso che richiedono i clienti, Cloud Coaster si può adattare a ogni tipo di esperienza, attrazione e budget” fa sapere Phil Wilson, vicepresidente esecutivo di Extreme Engineering. ride and riders are lifted high above the ground to fly amongst them. A Cloud Coaster will also be installed in the Middle East next year. In fact a unit has recently shipped to Qatar. The ride will open in early 2021 at a new theme park, whose name hasn’t been officially disclosed yet. This Cloud Coaster has been designed to install indoors, within the building’s infrastructure, reducing the need for roller coaster columns. Over 200m of floating track will launch riders above the amusement park below. An iconic IP from a popular cartoon character found throughout the Middle East will also be included, providing an immersive storyline within the ride. n
