Aexperienced some ups and downs, twists and turns much like the rides it contains over the decades, yet still remaining popular enough to attract over the last few years an average of 1.4 million guests a year, thanks to its rides, restaurants, auditorium and other attractions. Recently the Australian amusement park has announced a major upgrade with an investment of A$30 million (18.5 million euros) in new rides and attractions, the most significant renovation since the park reopened in 2004. The plan was officially announced by the Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres, and will transform the 85-yearold park into a world-class amusement venue fit for the 21st century. “This investment will attract more people to Sydney and ensure that Luna Park continues providing joy and excitement to millions of families and children for the next 85 years and beyond,” he said. “An investment of this size is great news for all of Sydney as it will create hundreds of jobs, help boost local tourism, and assist in the economic recovery of NSW post COVID-19. “It is yet another sign of confidence in NSW and our economic future – and a sign of confidence that Sydney is back in business.” “We are investing over $30 million to upgrade park facilities, introduce 9

L’annuncio ufficiale delle nuove opera avvenuto pochi giorni fa davanti a The Face, l’iconico ingresso al parco. La facciata che vedete è l’ottavo volto nella storia del parco e risale al 1994.

The ride will be a Hot Racer model (see presentation in G&PI, September 2020) featuring a single-rail track combined with launches, inversions, close-to-ground thrill maneuvres, and an open seating position. Luna Park Sydney will close from next January 27 for its transformation and re-open in mid-June, with the new Big Dipper expected to be operating by the end of 2021. n
