Welcome to SAJCC
A
very warm welcome to our players, parents and supporters to the South African Junior Closed Championship for 2015. The first day of these important games in this landmark tournament is over for you as a South Africa’s junior chess player. You have come out to do battle against your fellow players from over 20 districts and provinces. We have brought another talented group this year … There are lots of new faces. We also have many experienced SAJCC players too. In all, Buffalo City is fielding 11 teams – one team in the U8, U10 and U20 categories and two teams in each of the age categories U12, U14, U16 and U18. Surely this is good news because if you look at the age categories, it looks like our chess players are playing competitive chess throughout their primary and high school years. For a small union, we also have a surprisingly high percentage of provincial players. Of the 100 or so players we are taking to the SAJCC this year, 25% of these players have been awarded provincial colours, that is, one in every four of players. Another outstanding result for our union! So this is a good time to congratulate these players again.
