ADAMS COUNTY DESTINATIONS PETENWELL AND CASTLE ROCK LAKES Two of the best-kept secrets in Wisconsin are Petenwell and Castle Rock lakes, the second- and fourth-largest inland lakes in the state, together covering more than 60 square miles. In Adams County, the shores of Petenwell and Castle Rock Lake are dotted with public launch sites, and visitors can enjoy water-skiing, swimming, sailing and boating on its beautiful blue waters. Spectacular sunsets await along the many miles of wooded shoreline. For the angler, there are walleye, northern pike, bass and perch lurking just beneath the surface.

ROCHE-A-CRI STATE PARK The 300-foot sandstone mesa, from which the park derives its name, once was an island in glacial Lake Wisconsin. The summit, now accessible by a stairway of solid white-oak planks, offers a breathtaking, 120-mile panorama. The varied terrains of the 425-acre park, include grasslands, open cliffs, pine barrens, oak forest, prairie and the meandering Carter Creek. Roche-A-Cri State Park offers 42 wooded campsites. There are toilets, water and picnic tables. The park has four miles of marked hiking trails. 1767 Highway 13 in Friendship.

MARATHON COUNTY DESTINATIONS WOODSON HISTORY CENTER/YAWKEY HOUSE MUSEUM Home to the Marathon County Historical Society, the Woodson History Center is a lovely brick house built in 1914 with a rich history. Today it contains the library and archives, artifacts and exhibits. Across the street lies the Cyrus and Alice Yawkey house. It features beautiful stained glass windows, art glass lighting fixtures and many original Yawkey furnishings. A small entrance fee is charged for nonmembers of the Society. FARMERS MARKETS Visitors will find veggies, fruits, organic produce, local meats and cheeses, bakery, flowers and more Wednesdays and Saturdays at 200 River Drive in downtown Wausau. Marathon County

The dells surround fantastic geological features created by the Eau Claire River. The river bisects this 190-acre park. With 27 campsites and the adjacent Ice Age Trail, this park offers visitors a number of nature trails right on the banks of the Eau Claire River, along with a swimming beach, spectacular waterfalls and rapids. The rock formations are a magnet for photographers in search of a unique natural subject.
