tion, handling, preservation and disposition practices meet or exceed legal standards and best practices. The department provided training to over 2,300 members from 35 different businesses, groups or organizations in the community on how to best protect themselves from acts of mass violence, principally active shooter events. Drug enforcement efforts remain amongst its most intensive operational goals and 2017 yielded the ar-
rests of 11 individuals who were involved in a major heroin trafficking ring in the city and beyond. Officers helped build a conspiracy case to show that this drug trafficking ring had distributed more than 15.4 pounds of heroin between March 2015 and February 2017. The estimated value of the heroin that they trafficked onto city’s streets and throughout the region exceeds $1 million. In 2018 The Department
will
continue to work toward achieving accreditation. It is excited to kick off the groundbreaking and construction of the joint Public Safety Training Facility. This project will greatly enhance the training and professionalism of the police officers and firefighters who serve citizens. Fond du Lac Public Library shares ‘Wonder,’ sees growth in Summer Reading FOND DU LAC – The Fond du Lac Public Library, 32 Sheboygan St., has served the Fond du Lac community for 142 years. The Fond du Lac Public Library supports a high quality of life in through reading, lifelong learning and community involvement. In 2017 HIGHWAY continued from page C2
pavement followed up by restoration, paving, shouldering and line striping. Repaving on County K from U.S. 45 to State 23
In October, the annual Fond du Lac Reads program celebrated the book, “Wonder,” by R.J. Palacio, the fictional story of a boy with severe facial deformities. The community showed overwhelming support, and the book was checked out by hundreds of readers of all ages who appreciated the book’s message of “Choose Kind.” Indeed, when Fond du Lac’s very own wonder, Sarah Freund, an 18-yearold with the same syndrome as the fictional Auggie, stepped forward to speak at the library, the community packed the
house and hung on her every word. It was a moving and transformative event. The library will share another achievement with the community: participation in its summer reading program grew for the fifth year in a row. This demonstration of good habits and example setting proves that Fond du Lac believes in the power of literacy and life-long learning. Programming enjoyed sellout crowds at Breads of the World, History at Home and the December visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus, where every fami-
ly took home a free, new holiday book. In 2018 The Fond du Lac Public Library is embracing a year of change. Installation of new carpeting is presently ongoing, giving it the opportunity to rearrange its collection and service points to improve flow and function. The parking lot will be reconfigured to make it safer and to accommodate new book return bins. For more information, call 920-929-7080 or visit fdlpl.org and facebook. com/FDLPL.

included pulverizing the existing pavement, regrading, road widening and installation of new asphalt pavement and shoulder all done by highway crews.
In 2018 Depending on the budget, projects for the year will include reconstruction of County AW from State 49 to State 73, as well as
the replacing of culverts and pulverizing, grading and paving of County GGG from U.S. 151 to County G, County OOO from County VVV to Coun-
ty I, and County AS from Oakgrove Road to County EE. Pavement markings and sign upgrades also will be made.

Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau a Destination Marketing Organization
Envision Greater Fond du Lac rises from shell of Association of Commerce, Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation The community spoke and we listened. Following years of conversations, the greater Fond du Lac area experienced the unification of workforce and economic development programming in 2017, marked by the debut of Envision Greater Fond du Lac. Upon the completion of a study by the McCarthy/Blansett Group, a joint resolution was passed by the Boards of Directors of the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce (AC) and Fond du Lac County Economic Development Corporation (FCEDC) to merge and reinvent the separate organizations into one unified organization that would continue to strengthen workforce and economic development throughout Fond du Lac County and beyond. The birth of Envision Greater Fond du Lac On July 1, Envision Greater Fond du Lac – the unified organization of the AC and FCEDC – debuted as the region’s leading chamber and economic development organization. Throughout the past year, Envision Greater Fond du Lac has continued to deliver the excellent programming the community has come to know and love from the two predecessor organizations. Community impact Although 2017 was a year of transition for the organization, programs and services continued to be delivered in a highly successful manner. We’ve highlighted just a few our success stories from the past year: During 2017, Envision Greater Fond du Lac fostered

over $39 million in capital investment to the Greater Fond du Lac area through four expansion projects. This investment in the community has had a direct impact on job creation and retention. Envision Greater Fond du Lac welcome 64 new chamber member businesses in 2017. Chamber members continue to see value in investing in our workforce development initiatives and other member benefits, such as our gift certificate program, with over $533,000 in certificates sold in 2017. IGNITE! Business Success, a 17-partner network of support for entrepreneurs in which Envision Greater Fond du Lac serves as the hub organization, awarded $30,000 in microgrants to 15 entrepreneurs in Fond du Lac County during 2017. This was made possible through a grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. Cecilia Harry welcomed as CEO With the debut of a new, unified organization came
the need for unified leadership. Cecilia Harry joined Envision Greater Fond du Lac as the organization’s first President and CEO in July 2017. She relocated to the Greater Fond du Lac area from Fremont, Nebraska where she served as the Executive Director of the Greater Fremont Development Council. The transition continues While many key milestones in the transition have been completed, there are still a few more that remain. 2018 will continue to be a building year for the new organization as the team relocates to a new office in the heart of Downtown Fond du Lac, a county-wide economic development strategic plan is developed, a new Vice President of Economic Development joins the organization, and more. A special thank you to our business community, community partners, and volunteers for your continued support. We look forward to furthering our mission in this thriving region in 2018.
Envision Greater Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau announce cohabitation FOND DU LAC - In 2017, Envision Greater Fond du Lac and the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (FACVB) announced the organizations will relocate under one roof in the heart of Fond du Lac’s Downtown District. The transition into the new location, currently occupied by The Commonwealth Companies, is expected to be complete in spring, 2018. While both organizations will remain sepa-

rate entities, they share complimentary missions and one singular goal – to work for the betterment of the Greater Fond du Lac and Lake Winnebago regions. This combined location will take existing collaborative objectives to new heights, while more effectively serving the regions’ communities and travelers. “Each of us has a stake in issues that affect our region such as education, workforce development, tourism and more,” said
Craig Molitor, President and CEO of FACVB. “Once we are all in the same building, we will be able to work together more synergistically, while continuing to operate as separate organizations.” The collaborative location came to fruition as both organizations realized their current locations did not best address current and future needs. In July 2017, as Envision Greater Fond du Lac emerged as the area’s leading chamber and eco-
nomic development organization, a committee was launched to identify properties that would best serve the current and growing needs of the organization. This new location will allow the organization’s dedicated staff, volunteers and community partners to work even more collaboratively and effectively. “We are excited to embrace this new location in the Downtown District that will allow us to better serve our stakeholders,
businesses and partnering communities within the Greater Fond du Lac region,” said Cecilia Harry, President and CEO of Envision Greater Fond du Lac. As FACVB carefully analyzed their visitor center traffic, it was determined that the tourism industry in the region was stronger than ever, but visitors were simply accessing the information on the bureau’s fdl.com website and property ownership was no longer advanta-
geous for the organization. Both organizations simultaneously saw the incredible opportunity to work closer together — present itself in the summer of 2017— when they became aware of the possibility of The Commonwealth Companies’ need to relocate. “There were many good stories coming to fruition at once,” Molitor said, “we worked in concert from the beginning, to maximize the oppor-
tunity.” The Commonwealth Companies’ success story of growth; the creation of Envision Greater Fond du Lac and the FACVB’s sale of their building all added up to wins for the region. Molitor, Harry, and their respective teams have already undertaken joint-tasks as the move date approaches. All parties agree that 2018 looks to be a great year in the making.
FOND DU LAC – For the last several years, the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has steadily been evolving away from the traditional Visitors Bureau model and in the direction of what the tourism industry refers to as a Destination Marketing Organization. We are happy to report that 2017 saw many of our initiatives come to fruition. A Destination Marketing Organization is essentially a community’s sales and marketing company. Our role is to market the many positive attributes of this great place we call home. While our revenue stream is Room Tax and thus our primary target-market is folks from outside of our area, we know that locals also can benefit from hearing our message. As noted, this organization is funded by a small tax on all overnight stays in local hotels. The “Room Tax” collection and deployment are defined explicitly by state law. As such, the FACVB uses these funds to keep the destination sales and marketing process, moving forward. If we are doing our job effectively, more folks will stay in area hotels, positively impacting the entire tourism sector. Fond du Lac County, for the last two years, has led the entire state in the percentage of growth of spending in the tourism segment. Not bad, Fond du Lac. Give yourselves a hand. Community Partnership We have always been strong partners with Envision Greater Fond du Lac’s two predecessor organizations — the Association of Commerce and the Economic Development Corporation— and that

is why our recent agreement to co-locate in the same building as Envision Greater Fond du Lac feels like such a win/win. Separate organizations with complementary missions and one singular goal — an increasingly dynamic and vibrant Fond du Lac and Lake Winnebago Region. Regionalization One of the best ways to make ourselves heard in the crowded marketplace is to make sure we are presenting all the tourist assets in this region. We understand that visitors don’t care about local borders and so neither do we. We have taken to referring to our community as Fond du Lac and the Lake Winnebago Region. We proudly extoll the virtues of our region; from Lake Winnebago, to the Horicon Marsh, to the Niagara Escarpment, to the Kettle Moraine and all points in-between. In 2017 we were honored to strike-up an arrangement with the community of Waupun to serve as their official tourism promotion entity. Repurposing To serve our mission as
a Destination Marketing Organization, the center on Pioneer Road was clearly no longer an asset. Visitors were not coming into the building — they were visiting us on line. By selling the building we will be able to repurpose those funds to more meaningful, quantifiable, and contemporary marketing efforts. Festivals Over the last couple of years, we concluded that tourists and residents could benefit from having more signature events on our community’s festival calendar. In 2017 the FACVB opened a department of Festivals and Events. We are now proprietors of a Winter festival called Sturgeon Spectacular and a Spring art event, called Art All Around. As past participants in the Lakeside Park Exploratory Committee, we knew that locals wanted more activities in the park; as huge fans of our Downtown District we also recognized that locals were clamoring for more activity downtown and that is why both of our events take great advantage of Lakeside Park and the Downtown District as event backdrops.
Showcasing Our Region’s Legendary Wisconsin Hospitality For Over 40 Years Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau The friendliness of home in a lakeside community surrounded by the Kettle Moraine State Forest and the renowned Horicon Marsh. Fond du Lac and the Lake Winnebago Region offers the perfect balance of downtown hip and rustic charm; of celebrations and reflective solitude; of historical restoration and modern art. Test the waters and embrace all that awaits you. Whatever your passion, you’ll find it here. C’mon in. 23 South Main Street, Fond du Lac

Action Printing Fond du Lac Credit Union has growth spurt at 45 years steps up security, volunteers at local organizations FOND DU LAC – Action Printing, N6637 Rolling Meadows Drive, has served the area for 45 years. Is it possible to have a major growth spurt in your mid-forties? For Action Printing, the answer is a definitive “yes.” As the Fond du Lac company nears the half-century mark in business, progress is being made on multiple fronts to grow market share and expand opportunities in a rapidly changing industry. In 2017 Action Printing is now ranked among the Top 50 Suppliers by Print+Promo and one of the Top 400 Printers in the U.S. by Print Industries of America. The company continues to trend upward, as new equipment, upgraded technology and a dedicated team of professionals propel expansion into new market
segments, said General Manager Darwin Bethke. “Staying in tune with our customers has opened new doors for us,” noted Bethke. “Technology is driving everything of course, but we continue to see a resurgence in the popularity of good old-fashioned ink on paper. Customers who started to drift away from print are again recognizing its value – along with the additional services Action has to offer.” With total sales up nearly 10 percent in 2017, Action has remained successful by leveraging an exceptional reputation for superior customer service and quality while offering clients an extremely competitive pricing structure. The growth in print sales has also blended well with other services now being offered by Action, including ful-
fillment, mailing and variable data. In 2018 Action Printing is planning even more capital investment this year with enhancements to pressroom and bindery equipment. New high-speed inkjet machinery is also being added to expand the company’s mail service capabilities. This year the company is projecting over a half million dollars in capital expenditures to provide customers with stateof-the-art production capacity and service. The company, Bethke says, serves a unique niche – small enough to remain customer centric and large enough to have all necessary resources available. In 2017 Within the last year, Eastern Ridge Home Builders Association changed its name from Home Builders Association of Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties. The reason for this change: The National Association of Home Builders awarded the county of Green Lake to its jurisdiction, meaning it can now represent companies who reside or work in Fond du Lac, Dodge and Green Lake counties. The association hosted two successful Parade of Homes events, as well as its annual home and garden
show, the “Super Home Extravaganza.” It continued to work hard and educate the community to “Do Business With A Member.” The association’s members are certified professionals who go through an application process whereby they provide six references and a letter of recommendation. The association takes great pride in
knowing it has done a background check for consumers, as all too often homeowners end up paying for the same job twice when they find someone who doesn’t have the certification to do what they are doing. In 2018 Eastern Ridge Home Builders Association plans to expand consumer awareness
so homeowners know they can connect with it to find a professional as well as be a consumer resource. It will also continue to share and promote trades related careers with the severe shortage being experienced and grow the Parade of Homes show. These items are sold at the thrift store and the proceeds are used to fund the programs and services of The Salvation Army. In 2017 In June, The Salvation Army hired Brenda Bertram as the new Thrift Store general manager. Bertram has molded a team-spirit focused staff committed to delivering the highest quality service to customers. Customer suggestions prompted some of the changes she and her team made, such as prices being adjusted to make the thrift store the best value in Fond du Lac and the price tags no longer being stapled to clothes. The team is also committed to keeping the Thrift Store clean and well organized.
The changes made inside the store created marked improvement online. The Thrift Store’s Google average review went from a one-star to a four-star rated page. The Thrift Store created an eye-catching, whimsical Facebook style, and its posts to The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac’s Facebook page now receive compliments. Because of the new changes, Thrift Store sales have increased over 30 percent and foot traffic into the store has almost doubled. Every change helps The Salvation Army of Fond du Lac to fulfill its mission of “Doing the most good.” In 2018 The Salvation Army Thrift Store is starting an Instagram page and expanding The Text Club. It’s also on track to deliver a calendar of exciting promotions, including the 10 for 10 clothing sale in March. Society of St. Vincent de PaulFond du Lac County celebrates 80 years FOND DU LAC – Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Fond du Lac County, 330 N. Peters Ave., has served the Fond du Lac area for 80 years. Society of St. Vincent de Paul-Fond du Lac County, or SVDP, serves the poor in the shared community. SVDP generates revenue from donations of gently used goods, which are sold at the Thrift Store, and its workforce is composed primarily of volunteers who contribute their time in the store
and community as home visitors. In 2017 SVDP helped more than 8,000 people in Fond du Lac County by providing necessities. The layout of the Thrift Store was reorganized, resulting in a cleaner, more organized look and efficient shopping experience for patrons. For the third year in a row, SDVP’s Thrift Store was awarded the “Best of Fond du Lac” award for “Best Thrift and Antique Store.”
SVDP’s Getting Ahead program has hosted two successful sessions, allowing participants to address the systemic causes of their individual poverty and begin their journey out of poverty. SVDP also added a public relations coordinator to its staff, helping to greatly increase outreach to those in need. In 2018 SVDP will expand its efforts to help those in need, due to ever-increasing de-
mand, which has substantially increased from last year. SVDP also will complete the new Fondy Food Pantry and a project to provide fresh produce and meat, as well as offer a walk-in food pantry once a week. At the thrift store in March, SVDP will open an outdoor section for lawn and garden items. For more information, call 920-322-9505 or visit svdpfdlc.org and facebook.com/ stvincentdepaulfdl.
Fond du Lac Area United Way reaches campaign goal, assists community FOND DU LAC – Fond du Lac Area United Way, 74 S. Main St., Suite 201, has served the Fond du Lac community for 70 years. The Fond du Lac Area United Way seeks to unite individuals and organizations in a collaborative, cost-effective effort to meet the human-service needs of its neighbors. Its mission is to transform the community through partnerships, creating an environment where everyone can reach their full potential. In 2017 The Fond du Lac Area United way met the United Way campaign goal of $760,000, helping fund 26
local human-services programs that impacted one out of every three county residents. The organization packaged 50,000 meals for area residents in need in conjunction with the United Way of Dodge County and over 150 community volunteers, and connected senior citizens to leaf-raking services. Nearly 800 calls were answered by United Way 211 from Fond du Lac County residents requesting a variety of health and human services; and conducted training for it to inform local nonprofit and government agencies about the resources.
It announced that Fond du Lac County residents have saved over $500,000 through FamilyWize, a United Way partner that offers free cards for saving on prescription medications. The agency also coordinated the annual Week of Caring, which enables volunteer teams to assist local agencies in completing projects through donated volunteer time. In addition, it went live with fondyvolunteers.org, a countywide web portal that coordinates nonprofit organizations with local volunteers willing to give their time. It also worked with Fond
du Lac County Health Department and Fond du Lac County Management to conduct Disaster Volunteer Reception Center Training. In 2018 The Area United Way is preparing a comprehensive community assessment, which will ensure that the local United Way remains responsive to unmet needs. The assessment will promote ongoing community discussion about local challenges, whether long-term or trending, and how best to meet these challenges. They are the warm voice that answers your call for help, arrange for a Home Visitor to arrive and assess your need for assistance. Call Center volunteers are highly trained professionals who successfully manage crisis situations regularly. Home Visitors serve on the frontline of SVDP’s fight against poverty in Fond du Lac County. These dedicated individuals determine the need for basic necessities, like food, clothing, utilities or funds for rent. An impressive 1,956 Home Visits were performed in the Fiscal Year ending September 30th, 2017. These visits were performed by volunteers from the Five Parish Conferences that compose the Fond du Lac Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul-USA. As a result of their tremendous efforts, $302,063.00 dollars was provided for basic necessities to those in need right here in Fond du Lac County. Home Visitors are driven to help the poor by following the wisdom of the Society Founder, Frédéric Ozanam: “The knowledge of social well-being and of reform is to be learned, not from books, but in climbing the stairs to the poor man’s garret, sitting by his bedside, feeling the same cold that pierces him, sharing the secret of his lonely heart and troubled mind.” THRIFT STORE VOLUNTEERS Pictured here is a snapshot of some of the 265 volunteers that put their faith into action in 2017, working an unbelievable 21,117 hours! SVDP Store Volunteers are truly the backbone of the organization, and the store could not function without these incredible people. All our proceeds help those in our shared community. SVDP helps anyone, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender identity. As a direct result of the hard working volunteers and Store Staff, 10,429 people were helped or assisted. Meuer Farm adds Austrian stone mill, sees high demand of einkorn
CHILTON - Meuer Farm, LLC, N2564 U.S. 151, Chilton, has been serving the area for 27 years. Meuer Farm, a 150-acre, fourth-generation, awarding-winning farm and ag-tourism business, produces maple syrup, five acres of strawberries, sugar snap peas, edamame and pumpkins for growing, as well as offers educational tours, a corn maze, school field trips and corporate teambuilding events. The farm’s specialties are grass-fed beef and pork as well as ancient grainand stone-milled flours. In 2017 Meuer Farm purchased a stone mill from Austria for their flour milling business, which, with the slow milling speed of the stones, allows the flour to be ready to bag right off the mill. A variety of oats, flours, wheat and grains are grown, harvested, stone milled, packaged and labeled in the farm’s state-inspected, on-farm processing plant. All its flours are whole grain flours and are sold under the label of Farm Flavors Foods. For the first time, Meuer Farm planted ancient grain
einkorn. Einkorn is the oldest of the ancient grains and dates back 13,000 years as the first grain ever cultivated by man in Mesopotamia. The einkorn has been in demand, with it being sold out until harvest time in 2018. Currently, delivery is done bi-weekly to restaurants, bakeries and stores from Milwaukee to Chicago, Madison, Stevens Point, Wausau, Door County and Sheboygan. Orders outside of those areas are shipped with orders going all over the United States, all of which led to an increase in sales from 2016. In 2018 Meuer Farm is increasing their acres of Einkorn in 2018 to meet demand. As more and more customers, bakeries and stores learn about the benefits of locally grown and milled, whole grain flours their sales will continue to increase. The 2018 sales forecast is showing another 500 percent increase over 2017. For more information, call 920-418-2676 or visit meuerfarm.com and facebook.com/Meuer-FarmLLC-216009771786241.

Schreiner’s Restaurant and Bernie’s Pub adds to menu, Studio 40 Salon sees celebrates 80 years renovations, addition of stylists
FOND DU LAC – Schreiner’s Restaurant and Bernie’s Pub, 168 N. Pioneer Road, has served the Fond du Lac community for 80 years. Schreiner’s Restaurant continues to prepare and serve the comfort food that had guests lined up down the block during the Great Depression. With the current location, including an on-site bakery and pub, Schreiner’s has remained true to its roots: serving delicious freshly prepared food in a clean and friendly environment. In 2017 Schreiner’s has built its reputation on consistency, providing the same quality service and taste-pleasing recipes year after year. Although it seeks not to stray from their roots, changes
must occur or things remain stagnant. Recent changes to the menu offerings are subtle, yet intriguing, reflecting current dining trends that complement their traditional menu. Additions include a barbecue pulled pork version of eggs Benedict, the option of creating a skillet featuring one’s choice of egg, classic chicken and waffles, a poutine appetizer and the ability to make any burger deluxe. Bernie’s Pub provides a continually updated selection of beers, including their popular “Beer of the Month,” along with wines, cocktails and the ability to order from their full menu. The consistency of service
continues to strengthen due to the increasing longevity of Schreiner’s staff. Currently 30 employees — over one-third of the total — have been with Schreiner’s for over 20 years; 17 of those for over 30 years; and four of those for over 40 years. In 2018 Schreiner’s will celebrate its 80th year in business with drawings and giveaways. The traditions that made the restaurant a travelers’ destination will carry on, and local guests will be encouraged to consider Schreiner’s as “The place to come to when you want to feel at home.” For more information, call 920-922-0590 or visit fdlchowder.com and facebook.com/Schreiners-Restaurant-96791224834.

Pillar & Vine held its first annual foster parent support and training conference at Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin Dells. Foster parents learned from local and national presenters on topics such as aggression replacement therapy, trauma-informed care, and childhood mental health, while their children learned magic tricks and played at the water park. For the important work they do 24 hours a day, foster families were pampered and cared for.

FRC is consistently serving more families each month than the previous one, which shows us that it is making progress as the impact of healthy parenting through support and education is being recognized. Unique to FRC is home visitations for families with children ages birth to five through the SOAR, or “Support, Observe, Achieve, Read” Program. The goal
is to build a strong foundation for the future by assisting children to reach their developmental milestones and promoting confidence. Participants consistently earn higher test grades in their first years of school. FRC is also the only agency in Fond du Lac County to offer car seat installation safety checks by a Certified Passenger Safety Technician at no cost. Unintentional injury-related deaths happen most often when riding in a car for children ages 14 and younger. All parents and caregivers are encouraged to call FRC to have their car seat checked for proper installation. In 2018 Through collaboration and responses of agencies like FRC, it wants to be able to reach more families. The Gottfried Prairie is a nonprofit environmental education organization that maintains and uses its 42- acre restored prairie for educational purposes for the residents and students of Fond du Lac County. It offers free programs and classes for all ages, yearround. In 2017 It was an exciting year for Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum. It also has partnered with the Fond du Lac Recreation Department to offer more opportunities for children to get out into nature. Life Enforcement finds success in events, begins kindness discount campaign FOND DU LAC – Life Enforcement, 126 N. Main St., has served the Fond du Lac community for three years. Life Enforcement is a group of passionate people that come together to create events and opportunities that inspire themselves and others to “Take Care Of” the community through purposeful selfless acts of kindness. The goal: a fun spin on kindness and generosity to inspire others to follow suit. In 2017 The year was a successful one for Life Enforcement and its mission to “Take Care Of” the community. Life Enforcement’s President Keywon Brown was named one of Fond du Lac’s Most Impactful people of 2017 by The Fond du Lac Reporter for his commitment to its mission. It also hosted its fourth annual Friends and Family Christmas Dinner, where it fed over 100 children’s families and adopted them for Christmas. The sincere joy and excitement on their faces was their gifts to all the volunteers.
At the dinner, Life Enforcement presented Heather Nett with the 2017 TCO’d Award for exemplary dedication to “Taking Care Of” the community, and Jennifer Lefeber was named Life Enforcement’s 2017 Outstanding Volunteer. The organization held its first-ever Bean Bag Toss Tournament at Walleye Weekend, with many competitors raving about it. Most of it all, the organization found the success it had in taking needy families shopping blessed it most. In 2018 Through Life Enforcement’s brand-new “Take Care Of Discounts with Kindness” campaign, it has teamed up with Urban Fuel, Domino’s and Coliseum Sports Bar to offer discounts at their locations. The catch: To redeem a discount, customers have to “Take Care Of” someone by performing a selfless act of kindness. the fourth professor at UWFond du Lac to receive the UW System’s 2017 Alliant Energy Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award. Professors Paisley Harris and Carey Woodward received the Kaplan Award for 2016-17 in recognition of significant and innovative instruction and/or service to students. In 2018 UW-Fond du Lac will be joining with UW-Oshkosh and UW-Fox Valley as part of the University of Wisconsin System restructuring. Faculty, staff, students and community members from all three campuses will be working together to envision one university serving the Lake Winnebago region. Current and former UW-Fond du Lac leaders marked the opening of the new Vue Campus student housing facility in August 2017. Attending the ribbon cutting ceremony and taking a tour of one of the apartments are, from left: Martin Rudd, UW Colleges regional executive officer and dean; Allen Buechel, Fond du Lac County executive; Bill Henken, founding campus dean; Cathy Sandeen, UW Colleges and UW-Extension chancellor; and Judy Goldsmith, retired campus dean and Fond du Lac County Board supervisor. Built though a public/private partnership, there was no cost to the taxpayer for the 121-bed facility. Fond du Lac County, which owns the campus land and buildings, entered into an agreement for construction with Tri North Builders, Inc. for the $4.8 million project. BMOC, Inc., a company specializing in student housing management, is leasing and operating the apartments.
