If there’s one thing I know, it’s that Sheboygan loves its food. And what’s cool is that we love a variety of food. From organic cafes, to authentic ethnic cuisine, to the news of Rocky Rococo coming back to Sheboygan inspiring an amount of hype that I imagine could only be challenged if Olive Garden announced residency (don’t stop believing, Sheboyganites).

Thai Cafe To kick this column off, I want to start off by saying Sheboyganites don’t have to travel to Chicago for a taste of the bubble tea craze. When I visit the Thai Cafe, 1227 N. 14th St., Sheboygan, I usually pair my meal with an avocado bubble tea. The Thai Cafe’s variety of the frozen drink is thick

and fresh in comparison to varieties that are more reminiscent of regular slushies. Besides avocado, there are other unique flavors such as taro root or more traditional fruit options. Continuing with the sweet and fresh trend, I’ve also ordered fresh rolls as a light appetizer with my meal, which is shrimp with vegetables, cilantro, green onions, lettuce, basil, bean sprouts and rice noodles wrapped in rice paper and served with

peanut sauce. Speaking of trends, pho noodle soup has been gaining popularity in the United States for the past few years, and the Thai Cafe offers a selections of pho combinations right here in Sheboygan. Diners can choose the size of their bowl, whether they would like their choice of meat, seafood or vegetarian toppings, or a combination of all three. The tilapia entree doesn’t come in filets but rather a whole deep fried fish for a larger portion that is topped with a sweet but savory sauce and fresh onions and vegetables. The Pad Thai dinner is stir-fried noodles with egg, garlic, peanut, green onion and bean sprouts, and comes with your choice of meat, though I personally like pork, for diners looking for a traditional plate that they might be more familiar with. “Helping people reach their financial goals is what it’s all about,” says Casper, “at the end of the day, many want to know where they’re at currently and what it will take to reach the goal or objective,” Casper emphasizes. “I help show my clients what it will look like, say at retirement, should they continue down the current road. The current road may fall short of what my client wants/needs, so we then create forks in the road to help determine which fork if any makes more sense to veer off to help reach the goal,” says Casper. “Our firm is independent and this helps set us apart from the masses,” states Casper. “We are not tied to one company, have open architecture, and bring the very best to the table given the particular situation,” says Casper. “Our client service process is all about the client while we diligently learn about your goals and objectives relative to your overall financial and life situation,” states Casper. “When we have a clear understanding of our clients’ needs and goals, we take time educating you on the many financial options available, empowering you to make a well informed and confident decision for yourself, family, and/or business,” says Casper. Making 2018’s Financial Resolutions Last For A Lifetime It’s Not Just Part Of The Job By Starla Golie Rick Wentz, a Financial Advisor and the owner of Feathered Nest Financial, has been serving customers in the region for over twenty years. Feathered Nest Financial is locally owned and operated, being located within our community. The owner, Rick Wentz, is a financial advisor who focuses on income protection, retirement planning products, educational savings accounts and estate planning products. As part of his practice, he networks with other professionals to meet the needs of every client, and assists with Money Smart presentations locally. He especially enjoys helping with mutual funds and retirement account “rollovers” including from sources such as IRAs, 401ks, 403bs, etc. Currently, one of his main focuses is on assisting the many Mayline Company employees financial needs related to the company relocating to Iowa. The Employees may want to consider moving their Company 401k plan account into their own personal IRA account. The loss of other benefits and insurance remain an issue to be addressed as well, as they search for new employment opportunities. “I’ve always believed in helping those in need and giving back to my community whenever possible,” said Rick. “Before I leave this earth, I want to make people’s lives better, that’s my passion. I truly cherish the friendships and the relationships I have with my clients.” In addition, he also assists (as needed)with disability income insurance, mortgage acceleration issues, life insurance (term/permanent), long-term care insurance, life insurance burial trusts, charitable giving arrangements, fixed and variable annuities as well as business continuation assistance when needed. “I assist my clients reach their “financial goals” by providing them with well-balanced and suitable financial products or services. I assist my clients in solving the problems of living beyond their retirement assets, dying prematurely or becoming disabled. I accomplish this by educating them, and then providing them with the best insurance, financial and investment related products available.” Rick continued, “I always provide these financial products and services with my client’s best interests in mind; delivering them with honesty, integrity and a sincere desire to develop a long-lasting relationship.” Rick takes the time to complete a risk tolerance assessment with every single client in order to determine the appropriateness of products being considered. This is done for the client, personally, in an effort to minimize discomfort during turbulent market conditions. One should invest wisely and within their tolerance to risk, as each investor is unique. Rick has also found that younger investors care about the businesses they are investing in. It’s important to him to take the time to understand the causes that matter to you most. He concentrates on long-term investment strategies, using his past insurance, investing, and engineering backgrounds, to guide clients to the best financial choices through proper budgeting, risk assessments, and numerous other problem solving skills. “Call me if your life changes. Don’t allow you or your family to suffer financially upon job losses or downsizings. Turmoil or suffering that financial instability may bring is not always a result, and there are things that can be done to minimize the stress.” Rick encourages. “Life is a balance. Plan financially for your future, but also live in the present!” Due to his continued success and the positive impacts he has made for his numerous area clients, Feathered Nest Financial should continue to flourish in the future. After working with my clients, “The recommendation of a friend or family member is one of the most satisfying rewards of my profession,” Rick stated.

Harvest Cafe offers spiced-up classics STORY AND PHOTOS BY LEAH ULATOWSKI / USA TODAY NETWORK-WISCONSIN

Harvest Cafe is a counter-service restaurant open for breakfast and lunch. Stepping inside, you will see the walls feature local art that changes out routinely. The cafe puts an emphasis on freshness and locally sourced ingredients. The menu has a variety of options, from all-day breakfast offerings to an assortment of wraps and sandwiches to new spins on classic plates. The Caprese flatbread features tomatoes, basil, mozzarella and olive oil and balsamic on two flatbreads. For those more familiar with the salad than this recipe, it is a light option that is reminiscent of a mix between the classic salad and

Bruschetta, but with flatbread instead of toast. For a unique option, the cutely named Hummusdilla is a house-made hummus, pesto, fried onions and fried peppers on a tortilla for a new spin on the classic quesadilla or hummus and flatbread. It is served with salsa and/or sour

cream for an added topping. Harvest Cafe also offers a variety of sandwiches and wraps, including the veggie avocado wrap. There is a variety of salads, including a salmon salad that features candied walnuts with citrus thyme vinaigrette dressing, among other ingredients like quinoa, that adds a little something sweet to the mix. For something a little meatier but still a bit sweet, the BBQ Chicken sandwich features grilled slices of chicken breast with thin, sliced apples on top, cheese and BBQ sauce on a warm ciabatta roll.
