Somasundrapalya Lake Bears the Brunt of KCDC’s Poison
I
t is again KCDC in the news for all the wrong reasons. There have been several rounds of talks and visits from lowest cadres of the government agencies to the highest political leader, our own CM. Promises were made and temporarily a speedy solution was also put into effect by reducing the tonnage of composting, whereby the stench has drastically reduced bringing a sigh of relief to the residents of the surrounding areas. People could at least breathe. Recently, the stench started emanating from the KCDC Plant which drew flak from all quarters of HSR layout specially the residents and the RWAs of sector 2 and KHHSP. But the officials concerned seem to be turning a deaf ear to the cries of the people living around this area. Adding salt to the wound now, the KCDC officials seem to have gone a step forward. It is the audacity with which the Plant has discharged the leach along with lichen into the Somasundara Palya Lake. It is perhaps assumed that the same will go unnoticed since it is also a watery substance. It is said that approval from an AC Member to let out the concentrated
leachate to the Lake is obtained. This will only poison and kill the Lake besides contaminating the ground water.

2014. The entire operation that took place on February 7, in the presence of an expert committee member of SWM, BBMP and KCDC officials was totally ‘mismanaged’. Interestingly, adding fuel to fire were a few KSPCB officials who were also present (though for a different reason), who were mute spectators to it. All these witnesses are supposed to be guarding the Lake without such untoward incidents taking place. When will the officials concerned and the powers that be render a permanent solution to this ongoing episode which is posing a threat to the lives of the people living around the area? In fact, a couple of near fatal incidents have taken place due to respiratory problems it is alleged, according to the villagers living in the area. The KHHSP RWA has already initiated action on the same day by lodging a police complaint against the officials concerned in the matter to elicit future course of action. The RWA has also written to the Regional Officer of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Bommanahalli, for their response.

A Workshop on ‘Women Safety’ Held
A
social movement, ‘Durga’, empowering women to deter sexual harassment actively in a non-aggressive way and Civic Hub, a BPAC initiative organized a free Self Awareness and Prevention of Crime against Women to mitigate sexual harassment and to empower them to be part of a movement that changes the course of how women respond to sexual harassment. On 4th Feb 2017, Kavitha Reddy, Environment Activist and State Secretary, Karnataka Mahila Congress Committee organised a Workshop on Women Safety at Shakuntala Devi Educational Foundation Public Trust. The College was represented by over 40 students for the workshop. The students were introduced to a non-aggressive way of dealing with eve teasers in public spaces. They also gained knowledge on the five principles to mitigate sexual harassment. 1. Safety First, 2. Awareness about the surroundings, 3. Trust your Gut Feeling 4. Engage/Escalate if required, 5. Do not try to teach anyone a Lesson Students also took Oath to spread awareness and to help women in distress.

Republic Day Celebrated at Nagarjuna

agarjuna Apartments celebrated Republic Day by involving the residents, senior citizens and more importantly, the children to display patriotism to the hilt on the 26th January. The sudden showers that poured from the Heaven did not deter the spirit of Patriotism on that day. The participation was in full view with the residents and children enjoying the programme with zeal and enthusiasm. Senior citizens were given the Honour of hoisting the Indian Flag to declare open the Republic Day Celebrations. This was a sign of respect shown to the seniors on the day of Formation of Our Constitution. It was followed by a March Past by the security guards of
the apartment complex who were full in attendance. It caught the eye of everyone present. Such was the involvement shown by them that it was pleasing to the eyes. They stole the show on the day. Under the guidance of Ms. Shyamala, the little stars sang Patriotic songs to the tunes rendered, which was a beauty. Not to be left behind, the ladies contributed by singing a Bengali song sung by Ms. Aabha, Ms. Deepa and Ms. Shyamala. Anchored by Ms. Nithya, the programme was well lit and colourful with the Rangoli decorated by the support staff, sparkling with its beauty adding to the display. The event was organized by the Cultural Committee of Nagarjuna Apartment.

After detailed examination, it is clear that only by experience one has to take the position of a Principal. First, a simple teacher’s position, after a couple of years of lecturing, they learn school / College administration /
Academic administration / Co-Curricular and Extra Curricular operations, Logistics management and many other very important activities that revolves around education, teachers and students, parents and environment. When the directive is provided by the University or the Secondary School Board, very little choice remains in the minds of the management. Leaders need to be aware of the changing educational landscape, which includes societal shifts in
technology use, advances in educational technology, and a new type of learner. Leaders today must establish a vision and implement a strategic process that creates a teaching and learning culture that provides students with essential skill sets - creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, technology proficiency, and global awareness - commonly referred to as 21st century skills. These skills and processes should be at the heart of every decision a leaders makes and are key to providing students with the tools to succeed in jobs that have not yet been created. Consistent innovation, effective integration of technology, meaningful professional development, connecting beyond the wall of a brick-andmortar building, and an open mind are all mandatory duties of a leader in the digital age.

oo lazy to exercise or too busy to hit the gym? Try climbing stairs. A new study has suggested that short, intense bursts of climbing stairs, which can be done anywhere, may improve the health of your heart and can lead to long life. "Stair climbing is a form of exercise anyone can do in their own home, after work or during the lunch hour," said lead author Martin Gibala, Professor at McMaster University in Canada. Previous studies have proven the benefits of vigorous stair climbing over sustained periods of
time up to 70 minutes a week. But, in the new study, scientists set out to determine if sprint interval training (SIT), which involves brief bursts of vigorous exercise separated by short periods of recovery, was an effective and time-efficient alternative for improving cardio respiratory fitness. "Interval training offers a convenient way to fit exercise into your life, rather than having to structure your life around exercise," Gibala added. For the study, published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, the team recruited 31 sedentary but otherwise healthy women and tested the effect of two different protocols, each of which required a 10-minute time commitment, including warm-up, cool down and recovery periods. The exercise sessions were conducted three times a week over the course of six-weeks. Both protocols, each involving a total time commitment of 30 minutes a week, increased cardiorespiratory fitness - an important healthy marker that is linked to longevity, the researchers said.

Try drinking water but don't eat anything else as it could make the process of medical removal tough. Home Remedy #1 Swallow half a cup of cooked rice directly without chewing. Drink water. Home Remedy #2 If the bone is stuck in the throat eating a banana can help. Take a bite and don't chew the banana. Swallow it directly after letting it get wet in your saliva for two minutes. Drink water. This could move the bone from throat. Home Remedy #3 Take 2 teaspoons of peanuts and chew them for a minute and swallow. This could also move the bone from the throat. Home Remedy #4 Take a slice of brown bread and smear peanut butter on it. Bite and keep it in your mouth for 2 minutes. Swallow without chewing and drink water. This can move the bone from the throat. What If Nothing Works? If these remedies don't work and if the bone is still in the throat, consult a doctor immediately. It results in infection if it is left in the throat. Maybe, a surgery is required in that case.

apanese giants Honda Motor Co. Ltd and Hitachi Automotive Systems Ltd. have signed a 'memorandum of understanding' to start a joint venture that will focus on providing motors for electric vehicles. The joint venture company under the two manufacturers will be responsible for the development, manufacturing and sales of electric motors. The electric motors will be employed in hybrid vehicles and fully electric cars. The unnamed joint venture will be based in Hitachinaka City in the Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. Both Honda and Hitachi will invest around $44.5 million and they hope to finalise the deal by March 2017. The new company will have subsidiaries in China and the United States. Both the facilities will have development, sales and production capabilities. The main aim of this joint venture is to offer
electric vehicles and components at a competitive price. Honda has spent the last 10 years sampling the products of several electric vehicle startups and among them, most notable in the two-wheeled space being the Mission Motors. Now the firm is not functioning, but, the electric motors made the company powered the Team Mugen Shinden electric motorcycle at the Isle of Man TT.

jeans has already been used and washed for once. In such case, keep the jeans in cold water, so that it does not shrink further. If your jeans contain Raw, dry, or single-wash label, it simply means that the jeans are not washed yet and the dye is not set as well. In case your jeans have Sanforized tag, it means that the jeans are designed in such a way that it prevents shrinkage.Most of the jeans come under
Sanforized tag, where shrinking of the fabric is very less. Unsanforized/Shrink-to-fit means that the jeans are a few inches longer than the mentioned size, which will get shrunk after you wash them. In such cases, soak your jeans in warm water and this will allow the jeans to shrink. Once it gets back to the correct size mentioned on it, you can use it on an everyday basis. 4. Dry Clean You should always dry clean your jeans, as this is the best process to pull out the dirt, germs, stains from the fabric. The oil that is accumulated on the corners of the jeans gets easily pulled out by dry clean. A dry clean is an expensive option that can be done once in a month. This will allow to keep your jeans in a good condition and always look fresh. 5. Avoid Heat One important thing to consider is you should avoid heat on the jeans, as it will affect the fabric. You should air-dry your jeans and avoid soaking them directly under the sun. Air drying the jeans may take up two days, so you can plan your schedule accordingly. later, the film-maker returns with yet another courtroom drama. This time, the premise has shifted from a hit-and-run case to a case of mistaken identity of a J & K terrorist. He gets the cast spot on right but sadly, this time it's the weak screen-play that plays a spoilsport. Thankfully, the impressive performances and striking dialogues keep you invested till the end. Few scenes like the one where the light bulb at the judge's desk doesn't work and those majorly involving Saurabh Performances Akshay Kumar is on a roll as Jolly. Shedding off his action-persona, it's quite refreshing to watch him play an underdog. The actor has a fine sense when it comes to picking up scripts. Be it his comic timing or delivering heavy emotional
dialogues, he hits a masterstroke right from the first frame. But yes, Arshad Warsi, we missed you terribly! Huma Qureshi fits right in as Jolly's wife Pushpa. She too puts up a commendable act before the script forgets her and you wished you could see more of her in the film. Annu Kapoor as the obnoxious lawyer is a treat to watch and Technical Aspects Subhash Kapoor's latest outing is let down by a climsy screenplay. Things come a little too easy to Akshay's Jolly and doesn't look convincing enough at several points. Kamal Jeet Negi's cinematography and Chandrashekhar Prajapathi's editing is in sync with the film.Music Jolly LLB 2 doesn't have much scope for music. The songs look forced in the narrative and none of them stay with you post the film. Verdict Jolly LLB 2 is strictly for Akshay Kumar fans! He is a jolly good fellow but this courtroom drama fails to leave up to its predecessor.
India Ranks 43rd Out Of 45 Nations In IP Environment
India continues to languish near the bottom in an international intellectual property index, ranking 43rd out of 45 global economies, according to a report by the US Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC). The GIPC also highlighted the need for the government to 'build upon the positive rhetoric of its IPR policy with the substantial legislative reforms that innovators need'. This is the fifth year in a row that India has been ranked at the bottom of the pack in the index. However, the 2017 report, titled 'The Roots of Innovation',
represents a slight improvement in its performance as the country was ranked last or next-to-last in the last four years. 'In India, many of the same challenges to innovation remain. Although it has made incremental progress, the government needs to build upon the positive rhetoric of its IPR policy with the substantial legislative reforms that innovators need,' David Hirschmann, President, and CEO of GIPC, said in a statement. 'If Indian policymakers wish to deliver the kinds of results the Modi administration once hoped for, they can act to address issues that impact Indian innovation,
such as software patentability, life sciences patents, copyright protection and enforcement, and trade secrets protection,' he added. Hirschmann pointed out that reforms can improve the country's reputation as a destination for doing business, foreign businesses' ability to invest in and make in India, and India's own innovative industries. The report includes 90 per cent of global gross domestic product (GDP) and grades countries on patents, trademarks, copyright, trade secrets, enforcement and international treaties. In addition to its anaemic IPR policy, the report cited challenges
with the scope of patentability for computer-implemented inventions, Section 3(D) of the Indian Patent Act, and the recent Delhi High Court decision regarding photocopying copyrighted content. The new economies included in the fifth edition of the index are Egypt, Hungary, Kenya, Pakistan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, and Spain. India ranks 43, just ahead of Pakistan.
