Dear Families, I hope you are doing well and are encouraged. I miss you all and I really miss seeing and teaching your kids. I am excited to share that starting this month we will will be using our Gospel Project Curriculum. We started this new curriculum in the beginning of March 2020 when we were still meeting in person. One of the things I love most about this curriculum is how no matter the age group, each age group is learning the same Bible Story, Bible Verse, and main point. Each week, in our Sunday Liturgy, there will be a video of me teaching the main story and the Gospel Projects video to go along with the lesson. A PDF file will be attached to the Liturgy with the story (I taught in the video), coloring sheet, and optional age appropriate activities. Please let me know how you like it and use it! I would LOVE to hear from you. Please tag @gardencitysv in posts or email me your thoughts at cindy@gardencitysv.com. I love you families and I’m praying for you, Cindy Garcia Kid’s Director

Read: PreK-5th Grade Story & Activities The BIBLE Story God Created People Genesis 1–2 On the sixth day of creation, God made people. God said, “Let us make man in our image. They will rule over the whole earth and all the creatures on the earth.” God took dust from the ground and made a body. God breathed into the man, and the man became alive. God planted a garden in the land of Eden and put the man there. God told the man to work in the garden and take care of it. God provided food from the trees for the man to eat, and God provided a river to water the garden. Then God said, “You may eat from any of the trees in the garden, except for one.” The garden had a tree in it called the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God warned the man, “If you eat from that tree, you will die.” Then God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.” So God decided to make a helper for the man. God brought to the man the animals He had created, and the man gave names to all of the creatures. But none of the animals was a good helper for the man.

6 So God made the man fall fast asleep. He took one of the man’s ribs and created a woman. When the man saw the woman, he was very happy. “This one, at last,” he said, “is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh.” The woman was a perfect helper for the man; she was his wife. The man’s name was Adam, and his wife’s name was Eve. God gave Adam and Eve good things. He put them in charge of the animals and provided everything they needed. God looked at everything He had made, and it was very good. So on the seventh day of creation, God rested from His work.

Ask• Who is God? God is our Creator and King. Christ connection Open your Bible to Genesis 1:27 and read the verse aloud. • God created people in His own image and provides for everything He made. God gave Adam and Eve a garden to live in and food to eat. People are special because God made people to live forever in a relationship with Him. Through His Son, Jesus, we can have eternal life with God just as He planned.

Activities: (PreK-5th) Option 1: Can you do that? Instruct your family to stand in a circle. Join them and explain that each player will take a turn announcing something she can do. (“I can … ; can you … ?”) Go first to give an example. Announce something such as, “I can say a poem; can you say a poem?” Anyone who can answer “yes,” to the question should sit in place. The next player standing should say something like, “I can do a handstand,” and then sit along with any players who can do a handstand too. Continue play until everyone is seated. Then kids may stand up and play again. Say • God gives people abilities and responsibilities that make us different than animals. Today we will learn more about why God made people. Option 2: Draw partner portraits Have your family partner up. Distribute paper and colored pencils to the kids and instruct partners to take turns drawing portraits of each other. Encourage each kid to study his partner’s features and draw him as accurately as possible. Then the partner will take a turn drawing. Encourage kids to swap drawings so each kid has a picture of himself. Allow kids to add color or additional features. As kids work, point out how no two portraits are the same. Say • Great work! You are all different in your own ways, but you all have one thing in common: You were created in the image of God. Today we heard a Bible story about the first people God created, and we will learned what makes us so special. Option 3: Shadow art Give your family a flashlight and a pencil. Provide a piece of black paper and white paper for each kid. Dim the lights and explain the steps: 1: Tape a piece of paper to a wall. Sit sideways in a chair with one shoulder close to the wall. 2: Hold a flashlight toward kid 1 so the shadow of her head and neck is on the paper. 3: Use a pencil to trace the shadow on the paper.

7 Switch until everyone has a tracing of her shadow. Provide scissors for kids to cut out their tracings. Kids should then trace the cutout onto black paper and cut that out. Finally, they can glue the black cutout onto another piece of white paper. Lead kids to write their names and Made in God’s Image beneath their shadow art. Say • God created people in His own image, and He loves us. God made you, and He loves you.

Read to kids: 1-3 year olds God Created People (Bible Story for Toddlers) Genesis 1–2 God created the whole world. He made the sun, the sky, plants and trees, and many kinds of animals. But God was not finished yet. On Day 6 of creation, God made people and He loved them most of all. God said, “Let us make man in our image.” So He made a body out of the dust on the ground. Then He breathed into the man, and the man came to life. The man’s name was Adam. God gave Adam a home. He made a garden and put Adam in it. God gave Adam a job working in the garden and taking care of it. God gave Adam food to eat. God said, “You may eat from any of the trees in the garden, except for one.” God warned him, “If you eat from that tree, you will die.” Then God looked at Adam. Adam was all alone. “It is not good for the man to be alone,” God said. So God decided to make a helper for him. God brought to Adam the animals He had created, and Adam gave the animals special names. But these animals did not make good helpers for Adam. So God made Adam fall fast asleep. God took one of Adam’s ribs, and He created a woman. When Adam woke up and saw the woman, he was happy! The woman was a perfect helper for Adam; she was his wife. Adam named his wife Eve. God put Adam and Eve in charge of the animals and gave them everything they needed. God looked at everything He had made, and it was very good! So on Day 7 of creation, God rested from His work. Christ Connection: God created people in His own image. He loves us and gives us everything we need. People are special because God made us to know and love Him. Through Jesus, we can know and love God just as He planned.

Optional Activities for 1-3 year olds Celebrate our differences Post green and red sheets of paper on either side of a room. Explain to your kids that you will say a statement. They should move to the green paper if that statement is true of them and the red paper if that statement is not true of them. Use the following statements or create your own. I am a boy. I am a girl.

8 I like ice cream. I like broccoli. I like to play with trucks. I like to play with dolls. My favorite color is yellow. My favorite color is green. I like to look at books. I like to draw and color. Say • God made all of us different. We look different and we like different things, but we are all important to God. God created people in His own image, and He loves us. All people are special because God made us to know and love Him. Through Jesus, we can know and love God just as He planned.

Examine thumbprints Invite your child to press his thumb onto a washable ink pad and then press it onto an index card. Wipe his hand clean and write his name on his index card. Set out magnifying glasses and/or encourage your family to compare their fingerprints. How are they alike? How are they different? Note that no two fingerprints are alike. Say • No two people have the exact same fingerprints. Wasn’t that very clever of God to make us so unique? We are all different, but every single one of us is made in the image of God. God created people in His own image, and He loves us. People are special because God made us to know and love Him. Through Jesus, we can know and love God just as He planned.
