Publisher’s Note

Summer is Good but Autumn is Better!

I

f you decided to begin your acquaintance with Armenia in September, you’ve made a right choice. However, most of the tourists still find Summer much more fascinating for visiting Armenia. We are here to let you know why you have made a right choice choosing Autumn as a period for visiting this country! It’s all right with summer and no one denies it. But if you have been to Armenia during summer and during autumn, comparing them you will find hundreds of reasons why autumn is better. First, the weather is more “trusty” in September. So, in September the dog days of summer fall down (summer in Armenia can be really hot). For those who feel bad in a heat, in an early autumn here are created ideal conditions: sunny, warm, but without a heat. Everything is awesome. Another wonderful advantage of September rest is that the tourist flow is considerably declined. The majority of them prefers the rest in summer though in September it can be much more pleasant. So the streets are not so crowded, the noise is not that much – in short, perfect conditions for relaxation are aroused. If you have heard a lot about tremendous juicy Armenian fruit, don’t think that the chance to enjoy them in September would have lost. In fact in September here is such an abundance of fruit you won’t be disappointed with. In our latest magazine, Vol. 17-174 August 2019, we provided you with an article “Summer means Sevan” why in summer it is so interesting to visit Armenia. If summer means Sevan, then what autumn means? Autumn means Dilijan. The picturesque view you can get from Dilijan in Autumn can never be compared with something else. All the green trees transform into yellow, orange, red trees. All the nature becomes a singing symphony with the most harmonic music.

Visit Armenia in Autumn. You will never find a single thing to regret for it!

Independence Day The Independence Day of Armenia is the main state holiday in Armenia. This date is celebrated on September 21. Known as ‘Ankakhutyan or’, this holiday commemorates independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Armenians would call this day the founding of the Third Republic of Armenia. On September 21, 1991, the people of Armenia voted in a referendum to proclaim independence from the Soviet Union. How do Armenians celebrate Independence Day? It’s a half patriotic celebration, half street fair, and all family holiday. It is a favorite holiday not only for grownups but for kids as well. The festival exactly shows how enthusiastic people are about their independence. Every year Armenians celebrate Independence Day with a greater enthusiasm and love towards their country. This year, in 2019, as always, Armenia Independence day is celebrated on September 21. The celebration starts early in the morning, as in every corner of the city center you can enjoy many activities. The streets are always crowded with thousands of people this day. Wellknown singers have concerts, entertaining spots

are full and the city breathes unconditional love. If you happen to visit Armenia these days, become a part of this wonderful celebration. Armenians are independent, they were hundreds of years ago and they will still remain independent to the end of the days. P.S. If you happen to be in Armenia on this day, make sure you visit Gyumri, because on that day you will find an amazing concert with the participation of the band “The Capital Cities”. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan urges everyone to travel to Gyumri on 21 September marking the country’s Independence Day. The government’s office promises an unforgettable event, and the previous year’s experience comes to show that the promise can be fulfilled. In every corner of the city you can find events for all age groups: music bands, sports and cultural events, exhibitions, film screenings at the October cinema hall and public discussions. Don’t miss this incredible chance to become a part of this great day!

Vernissage Visiting any new country the very first item we all wish to buy is souvenir, which will later on remind us about our journey to that country. If you are in Armenia and don’t know what kind of souvenir you want, here is a perfect place for you. Vernissage, a large open-air market in Yerevan, lies along Aram and Buzand streets at a length of 350 meters, connecting the Hanrapetutyun street with the Khanjyan street. The market mainly features a collection of different types of traditional Armenian art works. The Vernissage Market started its history in the 1980s. In the first years of working the market mainly exhibited and sold only the pictures. Later on it expanded its area becoming a huge market selling different kinds of jewels. The painters stayed in the park, the other traders of arts and crafts got the area in the adjacent park of Republic Square, in the middle of Aram and Buzand Streets. We bet you won’t leave this place without getting a single souvenir with you. The most exciting part of the market is

the jewelry pavilions where you can see beautiful handmade gold and silver. Yes, the diversity may let you hesitated. But the kind marketers are there to help you find your perfect souvenir. Firstly, it was decided that the market had to work only on weekends. But due to the efforts of Harutyun Navasardyan, the founder of Vernissage, it started to work 7 days a week. Vernissage is considered one of the most well-known places in Armenia among tourists, where you can find everything typically Armenian. What can you find in Vernissage? Starting from traditional handmade works, national musical instruments, souvenirs up to silver and gold jewelry, rugs, household items, and other cultural works. Also, you can find dolls, antique items, carved wood, clay, metal and ceramics artworks, traditional carpets, old collections of coins and medallions, interesting books, jewelry, musical instruments, and electronics. Don’t lose your chance to have a small Armenia with you back to your country!

Dilijan – The Best Destination in September! Dilijan is a spa town and urban municipal community in the Tavush Province of Armenia. Usually called Armenian Switzerland or Little Switzerland by the locals, it is one of the most important resorts of Armenia, situated within the Dilijan National Park. The forested and reclusive town is home to numerous Armenian artists, composers, and filmmakers and features some traditional Armenian architecture. Hiking, mountain biking, and picnicking are popular recreational activities. Once you are in Dilijan, you will feel how lucky you are to be

there in the most reddish, greenish and yellowish season, in Autumn. Dilijan is especially unique and picturesque during autumn months. The Dilijan National Park becomes a real fairy-tale with its nature. The breath is remaining fresh but it becomes chilly and sometimes even cool. But the Sun still shines making the atmosphere magical. If we try to enumerate some of the best places of interest of Dilijan, we will have short of room as they are really of thousands. But there are some, which are especially worth to mention.

Parz Lake: There are a lot of beautiful but “hidden” places in Dilijan , and Parz (Clear) lake is one of them. The lake was formed by natural climatic changes. Lake Parz is just 9km far from Dilijan. The coastline is flat, the south zone is rocky. The basin of the lake is covered by the forests and has recreational significance. The water is transparent and has greenish shade and reflects the view of the thick forest which decorates Parz Lake.

Sharambeyan Street: It’s a small street but realy beautiful that take you to the past on peace. There’s a nice and small hotel there and you can use some services like restaurant and bakery moreover laundry and a museum over there. If you like wooden houses, old and cultural parts of the city this street is just for you. You can find nice handicrafts, wooden things which are carved directly by the master who is working there every day.

Best food-spots: Having a good walking tour in Dilijan, it is impossible someone who won’t be starving of hunger. But Dilijan will help you here! It will provide you with such incredible restaurants that you will undoubtedly be glad. Kchuch is one of them. Being located in Myasnikyan Street, Kchuch provides its customers with an amazing service, hospitable staff and great food. Another awesome place for restaurant-lovers can be Losh, in 1/2 Kalinin Street. You should definitely visit Losh either for a breakfast/lunch or for a dinner. They have sour, sweet and spicy variations of food, which you will enjoy with a glass of homemade dry wine! The service is great and staff is very welcoming. Retro style but typical Armenian traditional breath in these restaurants are quite dominating.
