Both short term contracts Responsibilities Much of the work done for both Clive Sall architecture as well as for March & White was mainly involved with the documentation of the construction package as well as responding to the requirements of the municipality here in London. Both projects were similar in scope although the sample of work shown is from Clive Sall Architecture which was the larger of the two I worked on.

Responsibilities The challenge with Katharine Pooley Ltd was executing a project in a foreign country using both local and international labour brought in from the UK. As KPL’s largest project the drawing package had to be created from scratch, coordinated & verified with all trades and then built in stages some of which had to them be shipped for the final installation in Doha. A large portion of my work was done onsite in Doha with the Architect on record which totalled 4-5 months of that year in the middle east co-ordination with local tradesmen/ builders from that area.
Al-Ansari Villa Doha, Qatar
Project Particulars •
The Al-Ansari villa is located in one of the more affluent residential area’s of Doha, surrounded on all sides by consulate residences.
•
Spread over two floors this 4 bedroom & 6 bathroom residence has a swimming pool in the main garden with adjoining out house, an extended car port and separate entrance for the maids & drivers.
•
We were hired at the onset of the main build to consult with local tradesmen in regards to the buildings development with the understanding that it would be completed by the interior trades.
•
The design included specifying all finishes from floor up and included customised furniture specifically for the location.
•
The main area I was asked to start with was the entry point which led directly off to the adjoining spaces.

The role of project manager meant that I was required to have a great deal of flexibility to maintain the structure around the various teams while still being able to bring the design together contractors from very different backgrounds.
The final two months of the project I spent in Doha full time which meant I could oversee our interior teams arrive and witness and assist first had with issues that may have arisen.
The nature of the project and its location meant that my being closer to the site I could control the standard that local trades men were working too as well as being able to facilitate clients particular requests. Seen as a test run for the firm the directors of the company needed to understand if and how the market would react to the design which we were testing. The firm opened there second office almost twelve months later.

One of the initial projects I managed from inception, 2004, to completion, in 2007, while working with Gensler’s NYC office was the relocation of Ziff Brothers Investments head office in Mid town Manhattan •

Scope
In the wake of 9/11 a responses by some of the financial firms, relocation into less prominent buildings while still maintaining a strong identity & presence the challenge was to find adequate contiguous floor space, in suitable buildings. The project included a full study of some 15 locations which eventually led to them taking residence in one of the larger office towers behind Grand Central along Park and 57th Street.
Initially the build was split over two lower floors and three further up the stack. The final floor area however, saw the company take over the two intermediate floors and create once contiguous stack of nine floors.
Factors contributing to this decision were the projected growth by Ziff Brothers & after negotiations with the existing tenants the lease for these offices becoming available.

Role
From the initial meeting my brief was to understand the clients needs and interpret their specific requirements, as project manager I was to take the lead in bringing together the various consultant teams i.e., electrical, structural, plumbing, av consultants and security.
The hi end requirements of the design meant that understanding details of the clients life style became the basis of the design. A full set of co-ordinated documentation was required along with constant updates to meet client requirements throughout the build. Submission to and approval from the building department & the building
Along with client facing meetings were the weekly project manager meetings with the various trades to bring together all the contractor requirements. All architectural hard finishes were selected for the clients approval presented and ordered with the various manufacturers.
My role included not only driving the technical aspects of the project but also understanding the clients needs & facilitating a design that also met their aesthetic.
This included all the cabinetry design, detailing all architectural elements which was not limited to but included doors, crown & base mouldings, balustrade designs which all had to meet city building codes.
