GSM Presents Gershwin's Song and Dance Spectacular "Crazy for You" July 17-26

"Crazy for You" is a high-energy comedy complete with mistaken identity, plot twists, fabulous dance numbers and classic George Gershwin music with lyrics by Ira Gershwin. Memorable tunes include: I Can't Be Bothered Now, Shall We Dance, Bidin' My Time, I Got Rhythm, Naughty Baby, They Can't Take That Away from Me, But Not for Me, Nice Work if You Can Get It, Embraceable You and Someone to Watch Over Me. "Crazy for You" is directed by Broadway and Garland Summer Musicals veteran Buff Shurr. July 17, 18, 24, 25 at 8 p.m. July 19, 26 at 2:30 p.m. Granville Arts Center, Brownlee Auditorium $24-$30

GCT Opens 2015-2016 Season with Sondheim's "Into the Woods" July 23-August 15

The Brothers Grimm hit the stage with an epic fairytale about wishes, family and the choices we make. James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim take everyone's favorite storybook characters and bring them together for a timeless modern classic. The production will run Fridays and Saturdays, July 24-August 15 at 8 p.m., with Sunday performances on July 26 and August 2 at 2:30 p.m. There is a Thursday performance on July 23 at 7:30 p.m. July 23-August 15 Granville Arts Center, Small Theatre $22-$27

Breitling Youth Theater performs the J.M. Barrie classic about the flying boy from Neverland who doesn’t want to grow up. Will they find him innocent, so he is free to continue with his search for the Great Pink Sea Snail, the oldest and wisest of creatures on earth? Champions Who Care Award

Each year at their Annual Spring Gala, the Achievement Center of Texas presents two very special awards honoring people who have made a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities and other special needs. In 2015, the Achievement Center chose to honor the Garland Cultural Arts Commission, Inc. with their Champions Who Care Award. Some of those who have received this award in the past include Daryl Johnston of the Dallas Cowboys, and Rev. Ronald E. Jones, former Mayor of the City of Garland.

2015-2016 Grant Program

The Garland Cultural Arts Commission, Inc. is pleased to announce the 2015-2016 Grant Program for local arts groups, historic preservation organizations, and other artistic entities. Applications may be picked up at the Granville Arts Center Box Office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning August 3, 2015 and ending on September 24, 2015. No applications will be mailed. Upon receiving the appplication, a mandatory interview appointment will be set for October 1. Completed applications will be accepted no later than 4 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2015.
