From ballet to break dancing, music and dance are now inseparable partners. Many great composers have done their finest work when inspired by the beauty of dance. Some have written full-length ballets intended for virtuoso dancers. Other compositions use the compelling rhythms of
dance in works intended for concert performance. On January 17, the Symphony will feature pianist Stephen Beus performing Liszt’s Totentanz. Mr. Beus holds degrees from Whitman College, The Juilliard School, and Stony Brook University. Stephen Beus is a Steinway Artist and currently teaches at OU. Also on this concert will be Guest Conductor Alberto Correa from Columbia. The GSO will also be performing Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and Borodin’s Polovetsian Dances. February 14 will feature one of its own, violinist Stephen Page performing Saint-Saëns’ Havanaise. The 2013-2014 season marks his seventh season with the Garland Symphony. He holds a master’s degree from Northwest-
ern University, as well as a bachelor’s degree from SMU. Also on this performance will be Stravinsky’s Petrushka and Ravel’s La Valse. To purchase tickets call 972-205-2790 or visit GarlandArtsBoxOffice.com. For more information on the Garland Symphony Orchestra visit GarlandSymphony.org.
