Trout Lily Nature Walk 2018
The Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest will host the 25th Annual Trout Lily Nature Walk on February 24.
The Trout Lily is one of the first wildflowers to begin flowering each year. Its natural habitat is found in hardwood bottomland forests that have had very little impact from the built environment. The flowering period is only 2 to 4 weeks long and the entire plant cycle is complete in about 10 weeks. Nature walks will take place between 10 a.m. and noon. The walk is free to the public and begin in the park pavilion at the Spring Creek Forest Preserve, 1770 Holford Road. The walk is designed for both novice and advanced naturalist, and is an excellent way to learn more about our local environment from volunteers including Tom Frey, a regionally acclaimed naturalist. The Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest meets the first Tuesday of each month at the North Garland Branch Library, 3845 N. Garland Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. To learn more about the Society for the Preservation of Spring Creek Forest or about this event, call the Parks, Recreation and Cultrual Arts Department at 972-205-2750 or visit SpringCreekForest.org.

Senior Lunch Program
Senior Transportation
Both senior centers provide a hot lunch Monday through Friday for senior citizens ages 60 and older. A donation of $.75 per meal is suggested. Patrons under 60 may purchase a lunch at the full fare of $6.00 if they are available, and it does not displace a qualifying senior from receiving a meal. This service is supported, in part, by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA), the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) and Dallas County.
Transportation is provided for seniors ages 60 and older from their homes to either one of the senior centers each weekday. The program is offered free of charge, however, participants must reside within the city limits of Garland and must participate in the lunch program to qualify for this service. Additionally, transportation for local doctor appointments can be provided depending on availability.
