Age: 9Mos - 3 A familiar face, touch, and praise play a vital role in introducing babies to water adjustment, breath control, and enhancement of early developmental skills. Safety skills are an important part of this class. One parent per child required to participate in the water. Each class consists of 20 minutes in the water and 5 minutes dressing time before and after water time.
CLOWNFISH
ADAPTIVE Age: 6 - 15 Splash into success! This class is designed for children with disabilities. Learn water safety and swimming techniques in a safe, self-paced environment. Instruction is given in a one-on-one class enabling the student to learn more efficiently. Please call 972-205-2708 to register.
Age: 3 - 4 Play is the way little ones learn! This instruction lays the groundwork for introductory swim skills through songs, games, and toys that teach water adjustment, and beginning stroke movement. Learning basic water safety is an important part of this class.
STINGRAYS Age: 5 - 8 Cool rays of summer! Attentive instruction guides students through fundamental swim elements. Lessons include controlled rhythmic breathing, floating, basic strokes such as front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, and essential safety skills while progressing at each student’s own pace. Instruction encourages confidence in the water and a solid foundation for further stroke development.
SHARKS Age: 9 - 15 Jaws will drop! Instruction includes beginning through advanced skills. Beginners develop rhythmic breathing, learn safety skills, and receive instruction on basic strokes. Students advance at their own pace through strokes such as front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke while increasing endurance.

ADULT Age: 16 and up It’s never too late to learn! Instruction focuses on your personal swimming goals. Choose fundamental techniques such as breath control, floating, treading, and improving your favorite stroke. Work at your own pace, improve swim skills, and gain water confidence.
reminders * A signed waiver is required before participants are allowed in the water. * All participants are required to wear proper swim attire. Athletic wear is strictly prohibited. * Only participants and staff are allowed inside pool gates. * A parent is required to attend the first day of class for important class details. * Register by age. Swimmers progress through a 10 station instruction program at their own pace. * An additional $4 fee will be assessed for registration completed after midnight on the Thursday before the session begins. Availability is not guaranteed. * Registration may be completed over the phone, in person at any Garland recreation center, or online at PlayGarland.com. Pools are unable to accept any registrations. * When registering online, print a receipt and bring it to the first class. * Classes meet Monday through Thursday for two weeks. If there is a class cancellation by the Aquatics staff, a make-up time will be designated by the pool supervisor. * Class size is limited. Early registration will help you secure your preferred class time. * A parent information packet is available upon registration. The packet contains class guidelines and procedures. The packet can be downloaded at SwimGarland.com.

2019 TRAPS State Award Winner The Garland Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Department received the Lone Star Programming Award at the 2019 Texas Recreation and Park Society State Institute held in El Paso, Texas. The award honors a new program or special event offered for the first time. Garland earned the award for the Garland Guzzler 0.5K Race and Oktoberfest. This unique and original event held in September 2018 was geared to anyone who has ever wanted to complete a race but didn’t have the stamina for a full 5k. The full event included live music, food, drinks, and Okbtoberfest fun and games. The inaugural event was a huge success with more than 200 runners and over 500 spectators. Accepting the award were Tony Adamo, Chris Hallmark, and Robert Searle. Watch for details on the 2019 event in the Fall PLAY Guide available on August 1. In addition to the programming award, Parks Facilities Supervisor Dale Brison earned third place in the Nail Driving Competition at the State TRAPS Maintenance Rodeo Competition.
