Bradie Lee Brown AKA Big Mama, is 87 years old and was born July 27, 1935. She has six kids, (five boys and one girl), 19 grandkids, 26 great grandkids and 14 great, great, grandkids. She is a woman of God and loves the Lord with her whole heart. She is caring and would give her last to anyone. Bradie meets no strangers and loves everyone she meets. She loves coming to the center and has been coming to Carver for 22 years. She's always been a volunteer at the center and can definitely say this is her second home. Every morning she is up at 6 a.m. so she can make it to the center by 8 a.m. Ms. Bradie does not like to be late. She is faithful in her church and is faithful at the center every day.

Jerica comes to us from Richardson, Texas. Her favorite foods are jackfruit street tacos and iced caramel coffee. One of Jerica’s favorite hobbies is putting on music and pretending like she is one of the dancers on “Soul Train.” She is very excited to join Garland’s senior community. Her favorite quote: “Be you. The world will adjust.”

Medical Transportation Program

Nutrition & Transportation Program

The nutrition program is a daily meal program that ensures a nutritious lunch for older adults. On a limited basis, free transportation to both senior center locations is available to residents age 60 or older, living in the city of Garland, who participate in the nutrition program. An application must be completed before being able to participate in the program. This service is supported, in part, by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA), the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) and Dallas County. Senior Center Policy

It is the policy of the Senior Services Section of the Garland Parks & Recreation Department to serve all persons without regard to employment, and/or admissions without discrimination as to race, creed, color, sex, ancestry, national origin, religion or disability. The Garland Senior Activity Center and Carver Senior Center are wheelchair accessible. Persons with disabilities who plan to attend and who may need auxiliary aids or services must contact 972 205 2769 so that appropriate arrangements can be made. The City of Garland offers transportation to Garland residents 60 years of age and older who are not wheelchair bound, to local Garland medical appointments free of charge.
