Carver Senior Center Carver Senior Center Mission Statement
My mission has been to promote an atmosphere that has been called “a home away from home.” The camaraderie we have with all our seniors is a statement that has come true. I now want to make this mission even broader by expanding our programs, daily activities and special events, to bring joy to all that attend the Carver Senior Center. Be Active Tips “Move More Move Better” Ever feel TV commercials are a waste of time? A typical half-hour TV show has eight to 12 minutes of commercials. Make good use of watching TV by exercising during the commercials. Standing up and stepping in place may burn as many calories as if you took a walk. One hour of stepping in place during the ads will give you 21 minutes of activity, or roughly 2,100 steps.

Happy Easter! Easter Day Riddles
Why was the Easter egg hiding? Why shouldn’t you tickle an Easter egg? How many Easter eggs can you put in an empty basket? What do you get when you cross a rabbit with shellfish? Why was the Easter Bunny so grumpy? What kind of music does the Easter Bunny like? Why did the Easter Bunny cross the road?
Deviled Eggs Ingredients:
Easter Day Recipe
• 6 large eggs • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar • salt and pepper, to taste • paprika, for garnish
Instructions:
1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Reduce the heat to low (or off) to ensure the water is no longer boiling or has bubbles, and use a skimmer to place the eggs in the water. Then increase the heat back to high and set a timer for 14 minutes. 2. While the eggs are boiling, prepare an ice water bath and set aside. After 14 minutes, remove the eggs from the water and place in the ice water bath. 3. Once the eggs have cooled completely, peel them and slice in half lengthwise. Remove the yolk to a small bowl with a spoon and place the egg whites on a plate. 4. Mash the yolks with a fork and add the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt and pepper. Stir everything together until it’s smooth. 5. Use a spoon to add a portion of the deviled egg mixture back into the hole of each egg white. Sprinkle on paprika for garnish.

Spotlight on Something Bright
During the winter storm this past February, one of our employees from the Carver Senior Center decided to take action and serve the community. Dorothy Jones, one of our recreation associates, took it upon herself to check on Virginia Willis and her mother. Without power on the entire street, Dorothy asked Virginia to come spend the night at her house since she at least had a fireplace to stay warm throughout the cold night. Virginia and her mother were very grateful and accepted her generous and thoughtful offer. They stayed until the next morning and Dorothy was nice enough to also make them a warm breakfast. This act of generosity represents what we as a senior services department try to accomplish on a daily basis. We thank Dorothy for her drive to serve the community, as well as Virginia for sharing this amazing story that we are able to feature in our Silver Scoop!
