Clubs, Classes, Dance, etc. AARP - Driver Safety Program Thursday, Sept. 19 1 to 5 p.m.

Refresh your driving knowledge, including the rules of the road, traffic hazards, collision prevention and night driving. Become more informed, better prepared for the road and a better driver. A $15 AARP member and $20 non-member supply fee is payable to the instructor at the start of class. Cash and checks only – no credit cards. Students arriving after the scheduled start time will be turned away and not accepted for the class.

Beginning Ballroom Dance Lessons Mondays at 6:45 p.m. September classes $27 Per Person ( 4 weeks) After taking a summer break, the Monday evening Beginning Ballroom dance lessons will resume in September. Each month will focus on a different dance. This is a small and non-intimidating class.

Ballroom Dancing 7 to 8:30 p.m. Every second and fourth Thursday of the month $2 per person donation to Site Council Scrape the dust off of your dance shoes and join us for some ballroom fun. Recorded music will be played to provide a great practicing experience.

Ballroom Basics Holford Recreation Center Fridays 10 to 11 a.m. $65 per month Learn the basic techniques and steps of popular partnership dances including the foxtrot, rumba and swing. No partner necessary. Texas Hold’em will now be held every Friday, unless otherwise noted. Second and fourth Fridays will have sponsors if they are available.

The Garland Senior Activity Center and the Carver Center are a recreation center for adults 55 and older, offering an extensive variety of activities and classes intended to enhance and enrich the lives of active adults in our community. The center is not a licensed adult day care facility. All paid and drop in activities are designed for independent participation. Staff does not provide direct supervision or personal care and does not monitor participants coming and going. Participants requiring assistance need to be accompanied with a caregiver or assistant while at the center.

Medical Transportation

The City of Garland offers a free medical transportation service for Garland resident seniors 60 years of age and older to their local Garland medical appointments. This limited service is intended for seniors who have no other means of getting to and from their local medical appointments. Please call 972-205-2890 for more information.

Nutrition & Transportation Program The nutrition program is a daily lunch program that ensures a nutritious lunch for senior citizens. On a limited basis, free transportation to both senior program locations is available to seniors, age 60 and older, living in the city of Garland, who participate in the nutrition program. Meals are served Monday through Friday at 11:15 a.m. for Carver, and 11:30 for GSAC. Paperwork must be completed before being able to participate in the program. This service is supported, in part, by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA), the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) and Dallas County.
