28TH ANNUAL TROUT LILY TOUR Sunday, Feb. 28 2 to 3 p.m. The Trout Lily is one of the first wildflowers to begin flowering each year. Its natural habitat is found in hardwood bottomland forests that have had very little impact from the built environment. The flowering period is only two to four weeks long, and the entire plant cycle is complete in about 10 weeks. Nature walks will take place between 2 and 3 p.m. and begin in the park pavilion at the Spring Creek Forest Preserve, 1770 Holford Road. Follow a 45-minute loop on both concrete and natural trails that include stops to speak to Tom Frey and other naturalists about the Trout Lily and the Preserve. The walk is free to the public and is completed at your own pace.

BIOBLITZ iNATURALIST CITIZEN PROJECT May 1 and 2 10 a.m. to Noon Bring the whole family out and take part in the first annual BioBlitz at the Spring Creek Forest Preserve. A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time.
