29th Annual Trout Lily Nature Walk The Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest will host the Trout Lily Nature Walk from 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Spring Creek Forest Preserve, 1770 Holford Road. Volunteers will welcome you and send you along the clearly marked trail to the trout lily field and Tom Frey, a regionally acclaimed naturalist. Trout lilies are one of the first plants to flower in the spring. The tiny flowers are only in bloom from about mid-February through mid-March and then disappear until next year. Volunteer naturalists will be at several stations along the trail to tell you about the significance of that area of the preserve. This format allows you to go at your own pace. Walking the full loop takes about 45 minutes and includes both concrete and dirt trails. Guided Nature Walks • Special “Start your year right!” walks from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 1 at 4695 Ranger Drive and from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at 1787 Holford. • Bird walks led by a certified birder will take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Jan. 15 and 16.
