PLAY Guide Summer 2020

Page 1

What happened to the Summer 2020 PLAY Guide? Due to the current limitations during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unsure when centers and programs will be able to return to normal operations. Challenging times call for creative solutions. As we receive direction from our local and state officials, programs and events may be modified to adhere to those guidelines. We will provide updates on our summer program offerings at GarlandParks.com and our Garland Parks and Recreation Facebook page. Keeping our residents safe and healthy is our primary concern and at the center of all of our decisions. We look forward to seeing each of you again at our facilities. Until then, visit our virtual recreation center, Stay & Play, to find a variety of recreational activities you can safely engage in. Be safe and healthy!

Head over to GarlandParks.com under the Recreation Centers tab in the top menu to access our new virtual recreation center.

SUMMER NUTRITION PROGRAM

Parks and Recreation $117,750,000

SENIOR NUTRITION PROGRAM

The City of Garland has proudly supported the Summer Nutrition Program (SNP) for more than 20 years and wants to ensure the youth in the community continue to receive a meal during the summer break.

Dallas County has authorized the City of Garland to continue serving and delivering meals to currently registered seniors ages 60 and older. Meals are served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to noon.

CitySquare, an advocacy organization that works to fight poverty in the community, will oversee the 2020 program.

Any new seniors wishing to participate in the meal program must call the Garland Senior Activity Center at 972-205-2769 to register.

The program provides free meals for children ages 1 to 18, Monday through Friday. Schedules and locations will be posted on GarlandParks.com as they become available.

Once approved, new participants will need to drive to the Garland Senior Activity Center, 600 W. Avenue A, for takeout meals only. New participants will not be able to have their meals delivered.

tips Walk, don't run around water. Surfaces can be slippery and cause you to fall.

Always swim with a buddy. Swimming is safer and

more fun with a friend.

Life jackets should be worn around water if you are

not a strong swimmer. Everyone should wear a life jacket when on a boat.

Look before you leap. Be sure that it is a safe

place to swim and play.

You can stay safe by following pool rules and Wally’s words of wisdom.
