Summer Trends Here is our pick of the best trends to look out for this summer. We have simply covered everyones fashion needs.

Slip dress In this day and age people still want to look stylish but also be comfortable. An item that helps you do this is the slip dress, that comes in many different fabrics and prints. One of our favourites is this cotton and silk slip dress from J BRAND. The fabric for this slip dress may look like denim, however is very lightweight. It would be perfect to take on holiday with you as a transitional day to evening look.

Written by Danielle Potter

Stripes St Stripes are usually seen on a relaxed cotton t-shirt that compliments a laid back look. Stripes are a trend we never seem to get tired of when it comes to a wardrobe staple. This is an trend that we simply need to embrace for summer!

Pastel Pastel hues are a trend we see coming back every single year. If pastel tones are introduced gently, they can suit anyone. In the process making your skin and body look amazing for the summer. Accessories are a good way to show off this trend through jewellery, sho and bags. shoes

Bomber Jackets Bom Bomber jackets have been seen everywhere this season, especially on the runway from Chanel, Dior, Rag & Bone and DKNY – as well as all over the blogosphere! The bomber can be dressed down with boyfriend je jeans and trainers, as well as being dressed up with some skinny jeans and a pair of court heels. An iconic bomber will sharpen up any summer wardrobe style.

Underwear as Outerwear A crop top is one of those timeless pieces that people will never stop wearing. If you love the crop, meet it’s sister – the bralet. Bralets are best worn with high waisted shorts, jeans or skirts. Unless you have a tummy that you particularly want to show off!

14

Geometric Athleisure Athleisure is a fairly new trend originally designed for workouts, but has now transitioned into mainstream fashion. We see the trend is now being brought to the ru runway by the likes of Stella McCartney and Alexander Wang. Aswell as Beyoncé’s new Athleisure range Ivy Park. Its not difficult to pull off this trend, it's about being ridiculously comfortable and looking great at the same time.

Geo Geometric style has been present in interior design for many years now, however this trend is now carrying over to the runways. The bold prints we see from Nina Ricci and Versace are extremely wearable if you have the confidence (and you should do!). If you wa to find a subtle way to embrace want this trend without being too bold, then geometric footwear is for you.

Metallics One of the strongest trends for SS16 is metallic clothing and accessories. It's not just about silvers and golds though! We are seeing pink metallic loafers from Gucci, multicoloured striped lurex skirts from Miu Miu and even peachy pink metallic bags from Chloe. So give this sh shiny trend a try!

What inspired you to become a blogger?

What inspired you to become a blogger?

I've always loved fashion. A while back when I was first getting into photography, I started working with a lot of different models and I was styling those shoots. Styling was such a fun part of the whole process because it was another way I could express myself through the shoot. So from that a love for styling happened and I wanted to work with brands personally. So that was a huge way to push myself into becoming a blogger. Also, the Instagram community and following a lot of other bloggers was also inspiring.

The reason why I started blogging was purely because of my love for fashion. As I studied International Fashion Branding at university, it fitted into my life quite easily and it was something I knew I would enjoy. As I had such a strong passion for fashion, I wanted to share with others where I bought my clothes from and how to wear them. For me the idea of writing about something I loved and offering my experiences and ideas free to anybody who wants to read it is a great feeling.

What event are you looking forward to this summer? Traveling back to Seattle! I was born and raised there, and all of my family still lives there. Seattle summers are the best. I'm also looking forward to some road trips with friends! Your must have summer make up items? Garnier Fructis BB cream, some bronzy eye shadow, and a golden highlighter.

Rebecca Donaldson @styledbyrebeccad styledbyrebecca wordpress.com

What event are you looking forward to this summer? Paris fashion week (11th-14th July) – Paris fashion week is one of my favourite fashion weeks, with a combination of the best designers in the world showcasing their collections but also because of the beautiful city (it also has an amazing night life). During fashion week the city is filled with fashionista's wearing the most incredible outfits from all over the world. And the best part is you can literally wear what you want without someone thinking your crazy. Your must have summer make up items?

Who is your fashion inspiration? Olivia Palermo What's your biggest challenge as a blogger? The biggest challenge is juggling photography and blogging work! But I love them both equally and it's been so amazing to be able to do both. But it can be a challenge because you're always switching in front or behind the camera. Where do you see your blog going in the future? Aspirations? I would just love to grow and expand myself as blogger. It would be fun to have my own fashion line down the road... but who knows! :) What is the funniest thing that's ever happened at an event you've been to? Not sure if anything has happened. But seeing Bill Nye the Science Guy speak at an event I went to was awesome. I watched his show growing up! What do you do when you're not working on your blog? Socializing with friends over dinner or coffee, running or working out, or adventuring somewhere outdoors. What's your key trend this summer? Beachy waves, fun bralettes, and flowy dresses! Cocktails or juices? Juices help make a good cocktails. So both.

Arbonne CC Cream – This has to be one of my favourite products in my makeup bag. It feels super light on your skin, letting your skin breathe, yet still offers a full coverage so hides away any of those unwanted blemishes. It's gluten free and vegan certified therefore doesn't test on animals – what more could you want from a foundation. MAC Strobe Cream – Strobe Cream is perfect for that dewy summer glow. It brightens the skin and enhances the effects of light on the skin offering a fresh-faced look. Dior Addict Lip Glow – This lip balm is a must have in your makeup bag this summer. Its reacts to the natural lip colour offering each and every woman a different natural flush pink that suits her skin tone. It's moisturizing ingredients leaves your lips conditioned and full. Who is your fashion inspiration? Olivia Palmero is one of my ultimate girl crushes. Her effortless style and beautiful clothes always looks elegant whether she's at fashion week or prancing around New York in trainers. I've followed her right from the beginnng when she came on the fashion scene and have loved her ever since. She is definitely one of my fashion inspirations.

Where do you see your blog going in the future? Aspirations? As I have also just graduated from university I'm hoping that my blog will lead to a full time career whether that be continuing blogging or styling others. As this is something I am very passionate about, I would love to continue these roles in the fashion industry. What is the funniest thing that's ever happened at an event you've been to? Unfortunately nothing – All the events I attend are always good fun with great people however I'm yet to experience a funny situation. But lets hope this happens sooner rather than later – we all love a good funny story. What do you do when you're not working on your blog? When I'm not working on my blog I currently model and style. Modeling is something I've done part time from many years now however never something I've taken seriously because of my studies. Yet now that I've finished I'm focusing on styling – I believe in working in a job that you love is very important and this is why I hope to pursue my career in this industry. What's your key trend this summer? The past modern trend is going to be a big hit this summer and is one I'm really looking forward to. The past modern trend consists of looking at the past and the future and how they can blend together today. Full of sophisticated colours such as dusty pastels, light greys and warmer neutrals it involves A-line shapes – all my favourites of fashion. Which known independent female really inspires you? Victoria Beckham – How she has conquered the fashion industry has always amazed me. She has created something that she is really passionate about no matter anyone else had to say and I think it's an inspiration to all women out there. Cocktails or juices? Cocktails always – There's nothing better than a delicious strawberry daiquiri!

Other bloggers to put on your radar...

What's your biggest challenge as a blogger?

Emma Hill / @emmahill

If you ask any blogger they will all say the same – blogging is very time consuming. From planning what to write about, getting imagery to then finally putting it into a post, it takes a lot of effort and time. However it does pay off – the more effort you put into your blog the better response you get back from your viewers.

INFLUENTIAL WOMENINFLUENTIAL WOMENINFLUENTIAL WOMENINFLUENTIAL WOMENINFLUENTIAL WOMENINFLUENTIAL WOMEN

INFLUENTIAL WOMEN Here is our pick of women who we think are influential and noteworthy in the industry. Whether they are a Princess, pop queen or a fashionista their work and messages are something definitely worth talking about.

Kate Middleton It’s called the “Kate Middleton Effect” for a reason. Anything Kate wears will sell out instantly. Although Kate was in the public eye for many years as the girlfriend of Prince William, the effect began after the announcement of the couple’s engagement in November 2010. Kate was also seen on Vogue UK’s May 2016 issue. This was for their 100-year anniversary. This is because of how influential Kate is in the fashion industry and how she affects the trends for each season. She is seen as an icon and being on this iconic Vogue issue shows how much she influences what goes on in fashion.

Grace Coddington Grace Coddington up until January 2016 when she left American Vogue was described as the most influential fashion editor of the past 30 years; US Vogue creative director Grace Coddington has produced some of the fashion’s most memorable imagery. She was at Vogue for over 25 years. The 74-year-old started off as a model herself so understands how important the magazines work is. She has strong views when it comes to beauty and how women are seen in the media. She strongly expresses her opinion of beauty not being perfect as well as having strong views on ageism.

Diane Von Furstenerg Diane launched her career in 1970. Creating her iconic wrap dress in 1974. In 2005, following a lifetime achievement award presented by the CFDA, von Furstenberg was elected as president of the influential council. An active humanitarian, Diane, sits on the board of Vital Voices. This is an organisation that empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs. ‘Forbes’ also lists her as the 68th most powerful woman in the world.

Emma Watson Emma is best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” franchise. She has now turned her hand to the gender equality movement. She was highly praised for her #HeForShe campaign, which highlighted the rights of women,

26

being just as important as the men’s. The hashtag ignited a 1.2 billion social media conversation. She encouraged everyone to get involved in combating sexism. In this speech, she invited men to join the fight for gender equality and how it was impossible to achieve equality if only one sex participated in the fight. This is a big impact on the fashion industry due to it having a lot of women working in it, meaning her message impacts the industry more than ever.

Katie Grand Katie is a Stylist as well as the editor of Conde Nast’s Love Magazine. She is a long-time collaborator with Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton. Whilst studying at Central Saint Martin’s she helped create Dazed & Confused in 1992. She then moved to Pop Magazine where she was the editor and chief. Pop was another hugely successful publication, dominating the fashion culture of the first decade of the 21st century. She then moved to LOVE Magazine in 2008. She now does everything from runways, window styling, art direction, filmmaking and of course advertising. She is also still big in styling, recently styling Louis Vuitton ad campaign. In October 2011, Grand was awarded the ‘Innovator of the Year’ award, presented by Marc Jacobs.

films. Her big break came when she starred in Winter’s Bone. This led to a role in the new X-Men movies. She then scored the role of a lifetime playing, Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movie franchise. She won a Golden Globe her role in The Silver Lining Playbook, along with Academy award, Screen Actors Guild, Satellite Award and the Independent Spirit Award. This makes her the youngest person ever to be nominated for Best Actress and Youngest Best Actress which she won. She continues to do more films and is also involved with the fashion world.

Margaret Zhang Margaret Zhang is one of the brightest young minds that we should pay attention to these days. The Australian born is not only finishing her career in law but she is also a blogger, published photographer, creative director and stylist. Despite the fact she is only 23 years old, Margaret worked for some of the most prestigious brands such as Clinique, Guess and Louis Vuitton. Currently on the cover of Vogue China, she says: “The youth of today don’t need to blindly follow the paths and pressures laid out by generations beforehand. Be the one in control. And get a perm.” Margaret is changing the game of blogging showing us that we should be more valued for what we make, and not what we sell.

Anna Wintour

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter is an empowering independent role model. She is a singer, songwriter, record producer, actress and has just released her own clothing line. What about beauty products?

When it comes to makeup we need to find our matching nude tones, to enhance products that are individual to us. Again within the white market the amount of shades, formulas and price ranges that are accessible within the beauty market is endless. But sadly the market for darker skin is very limited, and in most cases very premium when it comes to product choice. We are starting to see a shift in the pattern as we are starting to see the best of brands catering for all skin tones and types whether you are pale or dark. Let’s give these brands a massive amount of love, and a well-deserved purchases for showing respect for diversity. Let’s hope diversity awareness within the fashion and beauty market carries on in the right direction. So in recent years to come everyone can have a choice of colour to pick from, whether is be, tights, underwear, makeup and even nude shoes. If this carries on the way it is, then there’s no reason the fashion industry cannot change their image on diversity. I feel that it is a strong backward thinking when it comes to writing about this subject, but hopefully it continues to carry on changing so that everyone can embrace their true nude self.

Nude: The Bare Truth When defining nude, the Oxford Dictionary expresses the term as having colour whether it be tanned or pale. When considering this definition, we ask the question why has the fashion industry only seen white as the colour of ‘nude’ for years. The concept of nude being a pale tone originated in the 1920s, when pale pink and yellowed undergarments were created for the rich western woman. As the fashion industry was changing, the white women were the only ones evolving with it. The word nude was simply named after it’s most demanding consumers. In this time you can see the large amount of white female models in the fashion and textile industry, this is shown in runway shows and in campaign imagery. This was all to attract the western consumer. But a lack of awareness of the wealth and development in other continents, shows the lack of consideration and appreciation of the now diverse and multicultural majorities. Media has allowed the rise of exotic origins to grow within the fashion industry slowly. We saw this happen in

40

the 90’s with the rise of supermodels such as Naomi Campbell and Jordan Dunn. Yet with the endless names of white supermodels dominating the scenes, compared to the coloured models presence in the industry is embarrassing. The main issue is established within the fashion brands in the west, because they are stuck in their ways of promoting white beauty.

"Luxury brands set out to sell you a fantasy." Luxury brands are set out to sell you a fantasy and a ideal of how you want to be, for many of them the perfect model is white, blonde hair with blue eyes. We can argue that we need to be more diverse in fashion, but the stereotype is now a symbol in advertising. The main consumers in China and the Middle East see a white model featured in a brand's campaign as automatic luxury. I say we need to involve more of these groups

in the modelling and expression of a brand, but the companies that create the campaigns see too much of a risk in changing the consumer's stereotype and worry it won't be perceived as luxurious anymore. When considering diversity in runway shows statistics gained from the 4 main fashion weeks (New York, London, Paris and Milan). The statistics show that out of the 3,875 models that were cast, only 797 models were of colour. This means that 79% of the models representing brands were white and less than 10% were of Chinese origin. This figure is shockingly disappointing but more importantly, the lack of diversity in ethnicities such as the Chinese and Indians in modelling is through their view of modelling being unsatisfactory or unrealistic job prospect. Whether this message is passed to a person through family traditions or expectations. This makes an interesting point as are we pushing the ethnic and diverse concept into countries and communities, that simply don't want to be involved. Also, when casting the shows the range of

Bobbi Brown Longwear even finish Foundation £31.50 models auditioned by designers sometimes isn’t in their full control, as we see agencies refusing to present models that are of darker skin tones or with appearances that are not generically beautiful. To then filter the fashion stereotypes of white girls in a bid to get more of their models in the shows, making the problem in the industry not totally about the designers and their brand but what is filtered to them.

"Rebel against the now boring ‘ideal’" Although all is not lost, as within the recent years we are starting to see a positive shift in diversity, with new fashion houses and their collections rebelling against the now boring ‘ideal’. This past season of AW16 we saw the likes of Zac Posen, Chromate, Gypsy Sport and most well known Kanye West’s Yeezy collection, that showcased a majority of mixed races and cultures within their shows. Celebrating the unique beauty that comes with being

you. The most successful showing was Kanye West's Yeezy show, because of his social media presence, people looked at his eye-opening collection. The designs were created for a variety of different tones, shades and hues that makes every human unique. The strength and public engagement with the campaign was only strengthened through the variety and contrast of the models that other established designer shows lacked in comparison. A new wave of designers are embracing the world around them, making their own brands more relatable. This compliments the shift in fashion buying, where the consumer wants the brand to be real and relatable to their unique needs. We are starting to see fashion elites such as Christian Louboutin who is embracing the demand for products and that are for a wider audience, redefining it’s nudes collection with 7 different shades for all women. This movement within the industry is needed and will make the brands even more successful in the long run, as now Christian Louboutin has gained the respect worldwide by looking and listening to people and allowing them to embrace and show off their true nude self.

Ibiza is not all just about the hard partying and clubbing anymore, with thousands of people flocking there for the summer months. Ibiza has upped it’s game with beach and pool parties but now is offering something a bit different than a booze filled afternoon. Why not take to Nikki Beach, a luxury beach club that not only offers what you expect, they also hold events. One of them being their ‘What Women Want’ event. This has a runway show, showcasing local designers as well as clothing you would expect to see in Ibiza. What more could you want… A city, in the sun, with a beach and amazing shopping? Sounds perfect to me. When visiting LA you don’t just have to do the classic tourist stops, you can visit Santa Monica Pier or Rodeo Drive for your luxury shopping needs, Hollywood Boulevard for your star spotting or even the beach to get a tan.

LA is different to a lot of other cities, it is very laid back and happy without the hustle and bustle of most cities. This makes it a must go destination for anyone, especially interested in fashion. Rodeo Drive literally feels like the Pretty Woman set with every store looking like a piece of art themselves. The street full of expensive cars waiting outside the stores for a celebrity, I need a sneaky picture with. Events: Coachella Festival Stagecoach Festival LA Film Festival LA Pride

Entering Venice feels like stepping back in time, it still holds all of its historic beauty. A great way to find unusual gifts and souvenirs is to walk down all the back streets. You may stumble upon one of the hand crafted Venetian mask shops, where there is an unlimited amount of styles to pick from. One of the main things to do in Venice is to travel by gondola, because it’s like a scene from a Hollywood movie and it can’t get any better than that.

Also Paris offers a creative alternative shopping experience with the allure of vintage boutiques, markets and different shops you wouldn’t find else where. You can enjoy Parisian culture, when visiting the different quarters that have a variety of influences, offering music, art, food and historic sights. Hair

Skin

Nowadays damaged hair is very common because of the use of hair dyes, styling with excessive heat or simply using too many products on your hair.

Most skin types are sensitive to an extent that we don’t realise we are applying so many chemicals to our skin. The effects this can cause to our skin cells can lead to early ageing signs, breakouts and even an increase in hyperpigmentation.

Most hair products contain silicone, this makes the hair appear shiny and renewed. But Silicone is not a natural mineral, it contains a plastic like compound, which over time, can weigh down the hair making it limp and lifeless. Coconut oil is a great solution for damaged hair, as it is composed of natural minerals that will continue to restore your natural hair texture. It will help make your hair stay moisturised, healthy and strong. If you suffer from damaged hair we suggest having an all-natural hair treatment, that involves trimming the ends of your hair and swapping out your hair products for coconut oil. Coconut oil can also be used for styling hair, because it’s an oil based product that leaves a natural shine without the hard drying effect that normal hairsprays and products would leave.

52

Even the most trusted product baby oil, can in ways not be very good for your skin. Most mineral oils also known as “comedogenic” can clog pores and increase the risk of acne and blackheads. Coconut oil is very rich substance, when it is applied to the skin it sinks into the pores allowing your skin to stay moisturised for up to 48hrs. The constant use of the product allows the skin to become soft, this evens out your complexion leaving a natural glow. The most convenient factor about using coconut oil on your skin is that you only need a small amount; so you don’t have to worry about spending ridiculous prices for such an amazing beauty product.

Inspiring Female Authors

Inspiring Female Authors What made you want to be a writer?

Dionne Michaela Author of Young Blood @ deemickey13

I couldn't pinpoint the first thing that made me want to write. But I always loved reading when I was a kid, and then I started writing poetry when I was young and it just progressed from there.

What was the inspiration towards your book?

I'd written a Werewolf book before entitled Blood Alpha, and it was received well online - reaching over 5 million readers - and I realised how popular the genre was among the Young Adult audience. So that inspired me, as well as my online fans asking for another Werewolf story, that was how I set out on my genre.

What's the funniest review you've ever had?

What made you want to be a writer?

Sophie Quinn Author of Mr Prime Minster @ sophiequinnofficial

Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

I’ve spent about five years trying to get into publishing. After a million NOs, you start thinking that writing just isn’t for you, that your stories are not that interesting or worth reading. It was only when I discovered WATTPAD that I got my confidence back. And, once I’ve heard about Lulu Press Inc., I knew I had to give it all I had to publish my books on my own.

If your books were turned into movies who would you cast to play the characters in your books?

Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

I have a very clear picture of my characters in my own head. If you ask me ‘Did I based my characters in real people?’, yes, some of them. But, I only have about 2 or 3 actors that I could easily cast. One is Julian von Hauser from ‘Diary of a Size 12’, and I would cast them with Joe Manganiello. I also have in mind for Alice, Charlie and Tyler, my 3 main characters in ‘Mr Prime Minister, to be cast with Déborah François, Henry Cavill, and Richard Armitage, respectively. Other than that, I’m open for suggestions!

It was really hard to get published, due to the fact that you have to find a Publishing Agent to represent your book first. And with the agents getting 200+ manuscripts a day, the chance of them reading yours or even getting back to yours is thin. So after a few agonising months of not getting anywhere, I went down the self publishing root.

If your book was turned into a movie who would you cast to play the characters in your book?

Oh that's a hard one, because I have the characters pictured in my head and so I can't imagine anyone else representing them. But I've seen some pictures of a model named Mara Teigen and I imagine her to have to looks of Chelsea - but not the British accent of course.

What’s your favourite thing to do in the summer?

If you could be a character in any novel you've ever read, who would you be and why?

If you could be a character in any novel you’ve ever read, who would you be and why?

There is a series of books called Shades of London by Maureen Johnson, and the main character of Aurora I think is pretty cool so possibly her because she's pretty intelligent and head strong and I like that in a heroine.

I would love to be MacKayla Lane from the ‘FEVER SERIES’, because she’s such a bad*ss girl! I love strong female characters that don’t/can’t rely on being saved and have to save themselves.

Do you have any advice for inspiring writers?

Do you have any advice for inspiring writers?

I’m not a fan of Summer – and I know, it’s a calamity what I’m saying – but I prefer the Winter and Spring. I love to be cozy and warm in front of the fireplace, and I’m very conscious about my body, so I tremble at the thought of being in a bikini.

The only advice I could give any writer – amateur or not – is to do what they love. It’s not easy being a writer, usually you can’t live off being a writer – unless you get to be J.K. Rowling or someone like that. Probably you and I won’t get to be a proud writer of a Best Selling novel, but if, in the end of the day, your writing makes you proud and accomplished, then you know you’re doing it right.

You just have to keep writing. I have written so many books, some that are good and some that are shockingly bad. But the only way to become an Author is through hard work and development.

What's the best vacation you ever had?

Probably the Dominican Republic, as it was beautiful and it was like walking into a completely different world and seeing the culture there was amazing.

Which known independent female really inspires you?

My favourite author is Kelley Armstrong, and I would love to one day follow in her footsteps and be as successful as her in her writing and influence within the industry.

New Release

Which known independent female really inspires you? New Release

What was the inspiration towards your books?

It depends on the genre, but usually music inspires me. If I’m listening a lot of hweavy rock music, I surely will have some new ideas about urban fantasy or paranormal stories. If I’m more into Beyoncé or sad songs, I’ll write a nice Rom-Com.

I don't know about funniest, but one person did say that their parents had the same first names as the two main characters, and she said she felt really sick and disgusted during the sex scenes because she couldn't stop thinking of her parents, so she changed the character's names in her head so that she could carry on reading without getting weirded out.

60

I’ve read once, many years ago, that if there’s any story you would want to read but cannot find, then you should write it yourself. And I did.

Oh, well, I don’t know about being independent or not, but I truly admire Miss Karen Marie Moning. She is a lovely writer, and I honestly wish I will have the same amount of success that she does. I believe she writers what she wants, even if it’s shocking or frowned upon. I love how raw she writes, now, compared to her first Historical romance novels.
