I Have a Receding Gum Line – Now What?

Looking in the mirror should deliver a sight that includes a gum line that is right at the edge of the teeth. At times, you might see a receding gum line. This is unhealthy for numerous reasons, one being that it will allow more bacteria to settle under the gums while the enamel is eroded. Even though it’s a frightening thing to see in your mouth, it’s a common issue, and there are things that you can do to improve the situation. Receding Gum Line Causes If the condition is bad enough, then it can cause the roots of the teeth to be exposed. However, this is usually in the most severe cases. The first thing that you need to understand is why the gums recede. While brushing and flossing are good for the teeth, gums and the rest of the mouth, if you brush too hard or with a brush that has hard bristles, then you might be doing more damage than you think. Hard brushing can cause the gums to wear away, which causes them to recede. Look at the toothbrush that you’re using, making sure that it has soft bristles. Use a toothpaste that is for sensitive teeth to prevent irritation. Genetic Factor Sometimes, your genetics have a hand in receding gum lines. If even one of your parents had issues with a receding gum line, then your chances are increased, which means that you need to take extra care of the teeth and gums. When the teeth aren’t positioned as they should be, such as one that overlaps or one that sits higher than the other teeth, then it can cause the gum line around that tooth
