1 The University of Waterloo's innovative approach to higher education has generated a spectacular growth in enrolment and research activities. An internationally renowned university, UW has Canada's litrgest engineering enrolment a nd the largest Faculty of Mathematics in the world. The university's scientific excellence has made it Canada's major source of advanced technology gradua tes. An active contract research operation with industry and government, both inside and outside of Canada, is expanding rapidly. The University of Waterloo is a leader in the design and application of computer software. UW software programs are used by over 1,600 clients around the world. UW pioneered co-operative education in Canada and is now the second largest 'co-op school' in the world. Each of the university's six faculties has one or more co-op programs. The site is well-served by rail, road and air. A Canadian National Railways (CNR) line borders the campus. The nearby Conestoga Parkway provides a four-lane controlled route to Highway 401, Ontario's main expressway corridor to Toronto and Montreal (eastward), Windor and Detroit (westward). The Waterloo-Wellington airport is only a fifteen minu te drive from the park. The airport can accommodate executive jet aircraft on either of its two IFR runways.
