We design, craft and distribute top quality oriental tableware for households and businesses worldwide. Our established brand Tokyo Design Studio is inspired by Japanese culture and praised for its refined contemporary designs and high-quality standards.
With design teams located in both The Netherlands and Japan we aim to create a unique and constantly evolving signature. Respecting centuries of porcelain and pottery heritage, we constantly look for unexpected perspectives that help us create the tableware of today and tomorrow.
Our products are authentic by nature. Predominantly made in Japan by artisanal methods perfected over 400 years. Our pad-printed products are baked twice, then decorated one color at a time, glazed, and baked again. Throughout the process a meticulous quality control is applied, making sure each product is of the highest quality.

“Asashio” is a Japanese term that translates to “morning tide” in English. It means freshness, new beginnings, and the natural beauty of early mornings. This collection is inspired by the sea, and the serene atmosphere of a morning tide. The pattern reflects the calmness of the ocean at dawn. Asashio combines beautifully with our Shinryoku Green collection and Wasabi collection. Or go for a bold statement with a brown accent of our Arahake pieces. Enjoy your mix and match!
This green color has cultural significance in Japan. It is associated with nature, freshness, and vitality. Additionally, the vibrant green of wasabi-colored tableware can create a visually appealing contrast with the colors of the food being served, enhancing the overall presentation.
What makes this tableware truly special is the delicate hand-decorated circle with a soft gradient on each plate. This circle goes beyond mere aesthetics; it embodies the essence of unity and harmony, inspired by Japanese tradition. Each piece in this collection is a work of art, designed to enrich your dining experience while subtly paying homage to nature and life.

Not only does the collection captivate with its aesthetic appeal and classy combination of earthy tones, but it also boasts exceptional durability. The stoneware material ensures long-lasting performance, ensuring that these pieces can withstand the demands of professional restaurant use.
A reactive glaze gives this beautiful Japanese dinnerware its striking high gloss green shade with unusual variations of color and texture. The glazing technique adds a rich feel and makes each piece of high quality Japanese stoneware unique. Its organic shapes and luxurious appearance will add a gorgeous element to your table setting.
Say hello to our newest tableware collection: Satomaki! This stunning collection combines style and authenticity with two beautiful patterns: playul stripes and an elegant crackle design. Both styles feature a modern matte exterior, adding an interesting contrast to the range.
The colors – subtle grey-white and outside a cool brown – fit seamlessly into any occasion, from a cozy brunch to a fancy dinner. Satomaki exudes simplicity and elegance while bringing a touch of natural beauty to your table. Perfect for making every dish feel special.
"Unkai" is a Japanese term that translates to "sea of clouds". It refers to a meteorological phenomenon where a sea of clouds appears to cover the landscape, creating a visually stunning and ethereal effect. The classic creamy tableware has been given a modern look through the brush strokes of a soft blue, making each piece different and unique. The stoneware offers excellent strength, durability, and longevity. We love the combination with our Yukishino collection. What do you think?
Each piece of the Yukishino collection is meticulously handcrafted, from the glazing process to the careful application of colored details. This attention to detail ensures a unique and distinctive finish that celebrates the natural irregularities and textures found in nature. The subtle shades of green and sand has the power to transition from rustic charm to modern elegance, infusing the experience with a sense of warmth and refinement, and maintaining its quality over many years.
Vert Sauge adds a green accent to the natural look of the Onyx Noir collection. Just mix these two collections, or stick to the green and style it with brass cutlery and linen napkins to create a trendy table.

“Natsu,” meaning summer, inspires a range of tableware designs characterized by cool and refreshing colors, such as blue and white, and motifs that evoke the summer season, like fireworks, ocean waves, and summer flowers. These designs aim to enhance the dining experience by creating a visually and emotionally resonant connection to the warmth and vibrancy of summer. The use of “natsu” in tableware not only highlights the beauty of seasonal change but also reflects the Japanese aesthetic principle of finding beauty in the natural world and the transient nature of life.

Hana Blue in Japanese tableware holds deep symbolic meaning, representing the connection between nature, beauty, and the fleeting moments of life. The word hana, meaning flower, is central to this concept, as floral designs are used to reflect the changing seasons. Each bloom carries its own story, symbolizing the passage of time and the beauty found in every moment; cherry blossoms capture the essence of spring's renewal, while chrysanthemums reminds us of the transition into autumn. This thoughtful integration of nature's cycles creates tableware that not only serves its practical purpose but also connects to the rhythm of life and the seasons.

"Shin" means new or fresh, and "Tokusa" refers to a particular grass or sedge plant. The pattern typically features delicate, hand-painted grass or sedge-like motifs in a stylized manner. The grasses are often depicted with thin, curved lines, creating an elegant and organic appearance. The design may incorporate additional elements such as leaves, owers, or subtle geometric patterns. It is a testament to the rich tradition of Japanese pottery and the enduring appeal of nature-inspired motifs in Japanese culture.

In a rich indigo on crisp white, the Seigaiha collection features beautifully detailed waves in a striking pattern. They are the traditional lucky motif in Japanese symbolism, representative of the boundless ocean, the flow of energy and good fortune. Seigaiha pieces are made from high quality Japanese porcelain with an elegant matte finish.
The robust brush stroke patterns on vivid white porcelain of the Aisai Seigaiha collection makes an eye-catching addition to your tabletop. While both the motif and the basic shapes of the bowls are traditional Japanese, they add a surprising statement to many different styles. Whether you’re going for a dramatic, modern or classic look, the Aisai Seigaiha collection is the perfect star on your dining table.
Serve with a story. These graceful creatures are an ode to Asian myths, suggesting wisdom and supernatural powers. Drawn on pure porcelain, this tableware is a must-have for dishing out a good traditional ramen or noodles. And after dinner, please don’t leave these porcelain pearls behind closed doors. They are true accessories themselves and add a certain finishing touch to all interiors.
The Flora Japonica collection is inspired by Dutch botanists bringing back new plant species from Japan, centuries ago. It is all about exploring and admiring Japanese flora. National treasures like the fine-leaved maple, the heart-shaped katsura, pretty white pine trees and one of the oldest trees on earth, the ginkgo biloba, have found a place in our collection. Amidst these wonderful trees you’ll find another Japanese phenomenon: the dancing cranes. Do you share our love for Japanese nature?
With Tokyo Design Studio we celebrate cross-cultural collaborations of the past and add a new chapter by giving a unique European twist to traditional Japanese pattern and tableware design.
Our Flora Japonica collection consists of porcelain plates, bowls and cups in various sizes. Each product is dishwasher-proof and safe to use in a microwave.

When ceramics or pottery are described as "Arahake," it means that the surface has intentionally been left with a rough or coarse texture. This technique can be achieved by brushing the surface with a coarse brush, leaving deliberate brush marks and a tactile, uneven feel. The roughness adds an aesthetic to the tableware, giving it a more rustic or handcrafted appearance.
Mino Yaki is chefs’ favourite. Whether Italian, French or Asian cuisine, many restaurants use this sophisticated tableware. Its deluxe appearance gives a unique touch to any dish. Japanese ramen bowls, or “ramen donburi,” are specially designed dishes used for serving ramen. These bowls are typically deep and wide, allowing ample space for the noodles, broth, and various toppings. Made from materials like ceramic, porcelain, or melamine, ramen bowls are crafted to retain heat, keeping the soup warm throughout the meal. The shape and size of the bowl are carefully considered, providing a perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality.
Inspired by the century old practice of having a picnic party under a blooming Sakura tree, these bowls and plates bring both spring and a touch of Japanese tradition to your dinner table.

In Japan, the crane symbolizes good fortune, longevity, and happiness. Cranes are often featured on plates, bowls, and cups, enhancing their beauty and cultural significance. These motifs are popular during special occasions like weddings and New Year celebrations. They also reflect high craftsmanship and bring a deeper cultural meaning to the dining experience.
Cherry blossoms represent the fleeting nature of life, capturing the essence of mono no aware, a Japanese term for the awareness of the impermanence of things. Using sakura-themed tableware during meals can evoke a sense of mindfulness and appreciation for the present moment.

Originally created in Ancient China, the cast iron teapot has become a widely-known traditional Japanese artefact as more people are now drinking loose teas. The designs of the teapots include different symbols which have a range of meanings, such as joy, strength, happiness and blessings. The traditional name for a teapot is tetsubin and the way tea is brewed is called kyūsu. Over time, the designs have evolved, with the style or design of the teapot reflecting the class or desired class of the owner, therefore becoming a status symbol in society.
Our gracefully designed mugs, are a must-have for drinking out a good traditional Japanese tea or whatever you decide. And after dinner, please don’t leave these ceramic pearls behind closed doors. They are true accessories themselves and add a certain finishing touch to all interiors.

Chopsticks were developed about 5,000 years ago in China. By 500 AD, chopsticks had spread to Japan, Vietnam and Korea. Once you've got your technique nailed down, though, you might want to consider making it a regular habit: some people claim that chopstick use can improve memory-which will come in handy for remembering all those rules of etiquette. We have developed a wide range of chopsticks also available in beautiful designed boxes which makes our chopsticks an excellent addition to your cutlery drawer or a nice give away.
