THE CITY JUNGLE MASTERPLAN The aim of this project is to create a space that offers accessibility and a combination of public and semipublic outdoor space where the community can thrive.

We aim to unify Vicar Street with the main square by pedestrianizing the street and continuing the material texture. We stayed true to the plot grain by considering historic maps. Currently the area is lacking in amenities, it was our intention to solve this problem by adding facilities most needed by the residents.

We bring duality of use to our scheme by commercializing the ground floor and we use the top floors as residential spaces. We create an array of dynamic spaces through compression and release, we create an enclosure like shell. We provide safe sheltered spaces through the use of colonnades. We offer a main green space and different size plazas.

The Artists Community

Ashley Igwe

My chosen site lies behind a bustling row of shops on Thomas Street, all the land to the rear formed a ditch boundary between St. Thomas’s Monastery and the secular world of Thomas Street which housed tanning pits, butchers and tailors. Such use patterns hold true to its medieval street with long standing tailors working over dress shops, taverns and confectioners.

Pub and Garden

Christine Cruz

Due to location, lighting became a challenge and as a result, the building adapted itself into maximizing the amount of light entering. As a result, I created a courtyard on the other half of the building, allowing dual aspect apartments. The pub inhabits the ground floor area and civic space.

Sports Hall and Youth Centre

Cian Anderson

The aim of this work was to identify local needs in particular to provide a safe place for youth culture to find a safe haven. Teenagers have nowhere to congregate without friction and the robust nature of the architecture accommodates their growing needs whilst also providing innovation in social housing on the upper floors by means of streets in the sky.

Music Centre

Edwin Chew

Located on Francis street within the Liberties, this project housing scheme combines an interactive music school with a multi-purpose gathering concourse adding a new civic function to the residential community. This lobby is not only for the residents but also doubles as a music civic space, the building holds music recording facilities, lessons, performance and retail.

Spa & Wellness Centre

Helen Prokofjeva

A mixed use building with 22 units ranging from single bed apartments to spacious loft apartments units above the ground floor. I tried to separate wet and dry without alienating both realms. Thermal baths occupy the ground floor and basement. I aimed to bring their presence up through the apartments, achieved through light wells, transition spaces, windows.

Childrens Educational Centre

James Noble

I wanted to create a safe, playful, learning space for the Liberties’ kids. The creche centres around a double-height assembly space embedded between two classrooms. I aimed to create mixed apartments that offer South-Western facing balconies and open-plan living spaces.

Markets & Food Hall

Wiktoria Czajkowska

My project offers an open market on the ground floor which is created through a series of enfillade collonades. A canteen area is on a demesne level in the markets. Housing upstairs follows the structural grid of the collonades and the plans use the concept of layering.
